Gun Hypocrisy: With so many guns what are 2nd Amendment enthusiasts waiting for?

Puzzling me for a long time is the inconsistency between two claims by gun and Second Amendment supporters. One is that what they worship is critically needed to defend themselves against a government that they would view as oppressive and unacceptable. The other is their belief that the US government has already become awful, stealing their liberties.

Why then, I keep asking myself, have we not seen a violent uprising among the untold millions of Americans owning guns to take back their government? Why do we not see what goes on in European nations, namely violent public uprisings against governments?

There is more private gun ownership in the US than any other nation. We have a far right part of the population with considerable public presence and power. FOX News, the Tea Party movement, and countless groups and think tanks angrily attacking the mainstream media, liberals, and leftist politicians as well as just about everything done by President Obama.

So, why hasn’t the massive number of gun nuts who keep expressing their love of the Second Amendment actually done what they claim is exactly needed, what the Second Amendment was created to give them the right to do, and what their massive gun power supposedly gives them the means to accomplish? Especially when they lose major elections, when their Republican and conservative politicians fail to deliver to them?

Are the paranoid doom and gloom gun nuts waiting for things to get a whole lot worse before they actually implement the grand plan to use their guns to overthrow what they see as an evil, unconstitutional and oppressive government?

From their perspective, how much worse does the government have to become before they finally get the courage to use their guns and restore American democracy and liberties?(continued)

This actually bodes well for the vast majority of gun owners exercising incredible restraint. It just goes to show what truly decent law abiding people they are.

It would not take much however once blatant attempts at confiscation and criminalization took place to push it all over the edge.

I no more worship my guns than I do my fire extinguishers. I don’t want to have to use either in an emergency, but it’s far better to have and not need them than vice versa.

1) If it weren’t for the Second Amendment we would already be slaves. The Marxists in our nation would have made their move to tyranny long ago. With full knowledge that there are likely several million of gun owners in this nation that can shoot the eye out of a gnat at 400 yards, politicians tend to be less over reaching in their ambitions.

2) Conservatives are rational people. They understand that historically Civil War is a catastrophic event in terms of lives lost and destruction of wealth. There is still plenty of opportunity to turn this nation around. It is the Second Amendment, and the extra stretch in the political culture that it allows, that makes this opportunity for **peaceful** change entirely possible.

Also from the linked article: "... the number of Democratic households with firearms in their homes skyrocketed from 30 percent in 2009 to 40 percent today."

It's no wonder that gun-grabbing liberals can't balance the national budget. I doubt that they even know it's not balanced.

In order to believe the author's claims, one would have to believe that a greater percentage of Democratic households contain guns than non-Democratic.

Perhaps the author is telling us that the guns in Democratic households are not "owned". Perhaps they have all been stolen? Or dredged out of America's lakes along with the wreckage of many ill-fated boats?

At this present time there is no lessor magistrate to organize an insurrection against a government which is operating in a great fashion illegally. To undertake such a venture without a legally empowered magistrate would surely lead to anarchy. The differences between the American war for independence, the french revolution and the Russian revolution must continue to provide a gaze into how one sets to dissolve the political bands which have connected them with another, and to assume among the powers of the earth, the separate and equal station to which the Laws of Nature and of Nature's God entitle them. This particular conflict is geographical (urban v rural) it is religious (atheist v theist)and as such it is cultural and economic. It is the sanity of gun owners that is keeping the tenuous peace and it is prima facie that the second amendment is rational and sane even in a day of high capacity magazines.

I tend to agree with you. It’s when a man is hungry, empty belly hungry or in fear for his family that you see him start to react in the mode of a rat backed into a corner. Fighting and spitting and kicking because there is nowhere else to run to.

Soldiers have to be taught to fight, to understand the consequences of fighting and that people die in combat or as sometimes is a worse fate survive but so badly damaged in mind and body that they might as well had died on the battlefield. Civilians can talk a good game but really how many are willing to go that extra step?

You know... the one that breaks the “Normalcy Bias” or as I call it, “Social Inertia”. A person will not know until it happens and when it does? You can’t ever go back to the person you once were.

Greece for one. Italy and Spain too.

But he is forgeting it was his people rioting because the government tit has dried up.

Think about Ayers comment and the time in which it was made.

1972 or so...right. 25 million represented about 10% of the population then, about 209 million. So it would be closer to 35 million now with a population of 314 million.

Ayers and his ilk are set to outdo Mao Stalin AND Hitler combined.
