“A couple years later, as a daily stoner, I was writing a blog round-the-clock along wth a weekly column. In many ways, it helped my productivity by finally ending my insomnia.”
A sign of his brilliant nonlinear thinking. He writes round the clock, but is cured of insomnia.
This is typical of that mindset. Kind of like the "gay" health argument.
But if there are such studies Im sure they were done by people with a strong desire to make that point.
Exactly!
Contending that making drugs legal takes them off the black market, and out of the hands of kids, is stupid to the nth degree. How does that work with alcohol, which virtually any kid can get?
Honesty is always the best approach.
My parents were the kinds to never talk about the “important things.” I got into trouble trying to find out.
I have always talked with my kids about the “important things.”
You never have to fight addiction if you don’t start down the path to addiction. For some folks that path is not far from the first use.
OMG, you didn't just write that with a straight face, did you?
I’d say smoking pot is the least of this guys worries.
“Sullivan however didn’t make it. He instead describe how he is self medicating to treat a symptom of his problem, instead of trying to find out why he has insomnia.”
Apparently it didn’t even do that since he claims to write round the clock.
“His 90 degree turn half way into the article to complain about his alma mater, doesn’t help.”
That must be an example of his newfound brilliant ability for nonlinear thinking.
And he then itemizes a litany of truly horrendous side effects including addiction, antisocial behavior, health problems, brain impairment on kids, etc., while still managing to rationalize these serious problems away - exactly like any addict would.
“Could I go cold turkey? I have from time to time, but its not easy, largely because the insomnia always returns.”
Reminds me of Mark Twain’s quip - “Quitting smoking is easy, I’ve done it many times”
I am perfectly willing to legalize all drugs and I don’t care if more kids can get them. They and their parents will have to live with the consequences of self-harming behavior.
I want drugs legal because I’m tired of giving up constitutional rights to the “war on drugs”. It has been no more successful than prohibition.
Worse, the black market for drugs partners with human trafficking. Ending that relationship will make trafficking easier to find and prosecute.
Kipling was observant and right. Historically devolution is followed by renewal. Hence the concept of the phoenix, resurrection, the faithful remnant and hero survivors of the apocalypse in history, literature, pop culture and religion. Yet it must be remembered that each time mankind’s propensity to indulge epicurean hedonism becomes dominant, there is ultimately much suffering, destruction and that which once was never returns.
Actually, it’s Reverend Jim (Taxi) when he went to Harvard and smoked marijuana for the first time.
Immediately turned him into the hippie stoned out guy known as Reverend Jim.
I think it means "you can't get there from here."

“Yet it must be remembered that each time mankinds propensity to indulge epicurean hedonism becomes dominant, there is ultimately much suffering, destruction and that which once was never returns.”
Yep - “The Gods of the Copybook Headings with terror and slaughter return!
Not to mention the “war on burglary,” the “war on rape,” and the “war on robbery.” Let the free market decide.
Nope. I was smiling wryly at the irony of such inane superstition being so breathlessly expounded by uninformed ninnies. In fact.
HEY PISS THE BOOG.
Order t-shirts now!
Sullivan has apparently been a regular user of marijuana since 2001, before ANY states had legalized its recreational use. Aren’t fags always lecturing us to “obey the law?” Well, this hypocrite had better practice what he preaches.
God created everything physical and empowered man to alter things, but my real point is to disagree with your assertion that what is natural must be healthy.
Please forgive me, but as a recovering addict I want to alert you that your reasoning may be an indication of addictive thinking...pattern of “reasoning” used to justify our use.
All mood altering drugs are addictive, don’t delude yourself.
Marijuana is an addictive substance which triggers the same areas of the brain as alcohol, heroin, crystal method, etc. That part of the brain holds the real key to addiction. Send me a private message and we can discuss further if you like.
Right, because you can’t see the difference between self-harm and harming others.
Property and interpersonal crimes should be prosecuted swiftly and stop all this plea bargain merry-go-round shit.
It would be great if we could have public canings for misdemeanors like graffiti, etc.
We are punishing the wrong anti-social behaviors. You leave others and other’s stuff alone, the law leaves you alone, mess with other people and their stuff and the law should come down like a hammer.
I can’t believe how deeply stupidity seems to have entrenched itself into society.
Sullivan endorsed Senator Barack Obama for the Democratic nomination in the 2008 United States presidential election, and Representative Ron Paul for the Republican nomination. He eventually endorsed Obama for president, largely because he believed that he would restore "the rule of law and Constitutional balance"; he also argued that Obama represented a more realistic prospect for "bringing America back to fiscal reason", and expressed a hope that Obama would be able to "get us past the culture war."[38] Sullivan has continued to maintain that Obama is the best choice for president from a conservative point of view.
Yeah, a "conservative" supports Obama and thinks that Obama is conservative. LOL!!! What a joke.
