There is a subset of 'conservatives' who compensate for their own sense of inadaquacy by identifying with a 'strong' state. They see cops pushing people around as themselves being forceful.

I can't figure out that one either...so many anti-government people here and somehow they give the most extreme-in-your-face example of power gone crazy, and most here on FR just make excuses for them..."gee, we know we accidentally shot your 11 year old, totally innocent and unarmed child mr. smith, but don't forget about all those cops that died in the WTC..."

The answer to that is simple, grasshopper.

The posters that defend cops like this want to inflict pain and suffering on others. They like the idea of causing harm/pain/suffering/distress.

It turns them on. Luckily they are too out of shape to pass the physical. That reduces the crop of sadists, thankfully.

As a former policeman and current constable, I can promise you that I would kick the officer off the job if I were his Chief. You just don't behave like that toward people!
