Free Staters are people who move to New Hampshire for more freedom and promised to actively protect/enhance that freedom. One of them apparently just married the first female free stater he saw after he got off the plane!
Come to New Hampshire, we just elected a Demoncrat Governor...over a successful Republican businessman...
Where do you see that they married at first sight?
I don't think the Free State Project has a snowball's chance of making a difference, but I wish them all the best anyway.

A successful businessman who was a Libertarian in all but name, and who welcomed the Free State Project with open arms, yet. Early demonstration of the FSP's negligible or even negative clout.
I give that marriage 90 minutes.

And may they work to outdo each other in finding ways to nurture the marriage and strengthen the friendship that drew them together in the first place.

The Union Leader did an article researching voting patterns among NH natives and Mass. transplants....the transplants were more conservative. You can't swing a stick up here without hitting someone who escaped socialism and wants to fight it for the rest of their lives. There are also leftists here of course. But both have a libertarian streak, the conservatives especially. BTW voting for Bush meant voting for resolute government but also bigger government...that cost him a lot of votes here where a true conservative like Reagan would have easily won.

It's been one month, and they said it wouldn't last! :) I'm happy. He says he's happy, and I plan to do all I can to keep him that way. It's crazy, but we both recognized what we wanted when we saw it, and didn't want to mess around waiting. I can't even say that we've had an argument yet. Stranger things have happened than this marriage working. Stranger things have happened than the Free State Project working.
Now that I've spent some time in New Hampshire, I can see that it's not going to take 20,000 to make a change here. One state representative that we talked to this weekend was overjoyed at having TWO freestaters help him get re-elected. He credited his re-election to that little bit of help. NH is so different than other places. The state house is open, very accessible. You can walk in and talk to the governor or your reps if you want. No where else that I've lived have I even met a state rep, and here I've already met many. You can call them up at home and talk to them.
We have about 100 people who've moved with the Free State Project so far. With 1000 we'd be making huge changes. 20,000 would completely overwhelm the state politics. It's just now sinking in what a great state we've chosen, and how much difference we'll be able to make.
