What can you expect from a racist, woman-hating Southern drunk? Good riddance. Go back to the Cantina, Fritz!
To: Nadd
Hollings was instrumental in making the Democratic Party what it is today.

And Hollings needs to go back to authoring draft legislation in order to blame it on President Bush and scare voters.
Or not. Maybe he should just go away.

About the only part he had right was the comment was were he said the Dems would vote for the party if the party left segregation alone.
The rest was a hit piece.

Condoleeza Rice should go back to "teaching Russian or whatever she does "Go back to". In other words, upitty-black should understand her position in life; stay with the job you had 20 years ago and expect no advancement.

He says in the interview that Condi should go back to "teaching Russian, or whatever", and makes disparaging comments about President Bush and his father when he was president and the Iraq war.
There. I've pretty much summed it up. Y'all don't need to follow the link now.

I was waiting for this one. My favorite was when he was talking about how you can't force democracy on the Iraqi's and the Shia's, Shiites, Kurds have been fighting for years and we are wasting our time. So, I guess a murderous dictator is preferable to democracy in Fritz's eyes.

Ernest Hollings was born and raised a racist. He became the governor of South Carolina, openly running as a racist.
Then, when blacks got the vote, the political leopard changed his political spots. He became an overt liberal. And a closet racist.
Now that he is retiring, is old and senile, he can once again be what he once was: an openly filthy racist.
Fortunately, he longer counts in the political calculus of things...

From young to old, the dems hold a strident belief in the Sharp Soundbite, as their ticket to success.
Insanity is doing the same thing, over and over, expecting different results.
But don't tell the dems. But they probably couldn't hear, because they ain't listening---just yackin.

A close second.
Rollings doesn't like special interest money but was in the pocket of Hollywood and the record industry.
He's from SC and pretends to be somewhat conservative and then talks about what a great President Kerry would be.
Or putting the confederate flat in the SC flag, and then posing as the great race liberal.
Plus the man always sounded like a cartoon character.

Hollings is the type of old line, racist, ass that killed the Democratic Party in the South. He should have had his butt kicked years ago and I look forward to the day he is gone.</p>
To: Embraer2004
Yep. Said as much in the other thread. ITA with you.
"We had a sweetheart deal with the National Democratic Party. 'Well go along with all your programs, if youll go along with our segregation.' But once that Civil Rights Bill passed in 1964, then Lyndon friend became Lyndon the enemy," says Hollings.
This was about the only thing of value that he said, and even this he distorts by implying Republicans are racist.
To: Nadd
Hollings, as Governor of South Carolina, personally led the fight, in the early 1960's, against lunch counter integration. (See, New York Times, March 17, 1960, which reported that Hollings boasted "that South Carolina would not permit 'explosive' manifestations in connection with Negro demands for lunch-counter services." Hollings also "challenged President Eisenhower's contention that minorities had the right to engage in certain types of demonstrations" against segregation. He concluded that Eisenhower was "confused" and had done "great damage to peace and good order" by supporting the rights of minorities to protest segregation at lunch counters.)
Hollings also was listed as a participant at a conference of "leading segregationists" in Atlanta to organize a "segregation bloc" voting lobby to resist integration. (See "Segregation Bloc Seeks Vote Lobby," New York Times, July 24. 1961.)
Hollings' senate career is replete with instances of racial and religious slurs. After a poor showing in an Iowa Straw Poll, he remarked that wetbacks from California were brought in to vote for Alan Cranston (then a California senator) who finished second in the balloting. He also made derogatory references about an African delegation that attended a Law of the Sea Conference, suggesting that they were cannibals. Finally, Hollings once referred to Howard Metzenbaum (a Jew, who was a senator from Ohio at the time)as "the senator from B'nai B'rith."
In his racist and religious slurs, Hollings ranks with several other prominent Democrats who have uttered inappropriate racial or religious comments. The list includes: Hillary Clinton, Jesse Jackson, Robert Byrd, Al Gore Sr. and J. William Fulbright.

I believe the correct spelling of the quote was, "Dar's too much consumin' goin' on out dar'!" He really does sound like Foghorn Leghorn!
Related to another poster, I have heard a story, probably apocryphal, that, during the Clarence Thomas confirmation hearing, Strom Thurman interrupted Howell Heflin and said, "Howell, I can't hear ya'! Ya got to talk into the machine! [meaning microphone]" And they said ole Strom didn't have a sense of humor.

The good news about Senators such as Hollings and Chappy Kennedy is their health, evidenced by their fat florid faces.
To: Nadd
Did Fritz Hollings bother to tell us why he placed the confederate flag at the SC Statehouse as govornor. Was he asked? Yeah, I didn't think so. The Packers-Lions were playing a great game today at the time 60 minutes was on so I watched that instead.
To: Nadd
"On 60 Minutes, South Carolina Senator Hollings makes outrageous statements... -- southern Republicans "not quite" racist -- Condoleeza Rice should go back to "teaching Russian or whatever she does" -- Bill Frist should go back to the "operating table"" Someone said it so aptly a few weeks ago -- his vitriol sounds clearly like "the rage of a drowning man."

I agree with Hollings sentiment about these two, but for different reasons.
Neither of them are leaders by nature.....they both go along to get along......and I fail to see real qualifications in their backgrounds justifying their positions, except that both are articulate and genuflect well. just my opinion......
