I added this article to my new blog, OhioForBlackwell.com, in which a Republican candidate found a "gray" area of the law by raising campaign contributions by offering an eight-hour day a month painting, cleaning or doing odd jobs at the auction winner's home or business. The contract would run for the entire first year he is in office.
I posted it here: http://www.ohioforblackwell.com/blog/archives/2005/02/20/bidding-for-candidates-on-ebay/

Is Blackwell a social conservative? I think I read where he was one of the few Republicans in the state who sided with the 60%+ of Ohioans who voted to ban gay marriage and civil unions last Nov, putting him at odds with Gov Taft. But my memory of this is so unclear that I may be completely wrong. But if it is true, then I hope the state GOP doesn't pull a Kansas with a conservative-'moderate' feud that results in the election of a Democrat.
I was impressed by Blackwell during the Ohio vote-certification process. He seems like good people.
Yeah, he is about as socially conservative as a Republican gets.

Sandy Theis of the PD explains why the other 2 republicans in the race, Petro and Montgomery, are not conservatives. Ohio is a sad state to live in for Republicans- We dominate state politics, so we have no one to blame but ourselves for higher taxes and a slumping economy.
