Bill Clinton spent eight long years sucking up to Irish Republican Army terrorists, repeatedly bringing Gerry Adams to the White House lending him respectablility and continuously touting the democratic viability of this murderous crime-fueled organization.
But avowed terrorists don't change that easily. They remain terrorists because their only successful means of amassing power is through violence. This was as true of Arafat holed up in Ramallah pretending to lead a democratic Palestine (while carrying on in his old ways) as it is now of the IRA.
In an unusually clear news analysis, AFP reports on the disarray now engulfing the Irish Republican Army as it tries to win an upcoming election. Unable to go straight since their inclusion in the democratic process, this terrorist organization is now implicated in a huge bank robbery in Belfast and the vicious murder of a Belfast father of two. That's making the IRA's name stink with voters. Vying for power at the ballot box but sticking to old ways of terror and crime is poison to voters. And suddenly, the IRA realizes it can't have it both ways.
As President Bush has repeatedly told Europe, democracy withers terrorism. The example is right there with the IRA.

Here's a significant update - that Gerry Adams scumbag was just identified as a member of the IRA command, doing all this crime. So much for his protestations that Sinn Fein and the IRA were two different creatures:

wow, terrorist scumbags, for an organization that has been forced to fight an oppressive occupationalist regime for how many years?makes Britain's role in Iraq hypocritical, does it not?) Yes, they have killed people, but why have they? It amazes me how people focus on some scumbag in a mosque in Iraq killed by US Marines, and call for sympathy, yet the murky dealings of the SAS, RUC, and protestant based groups in Northern Ireland have been ignored for decades. Scumbags? Maybe, but what would you do in their position? Save your hate mongering, ignorant rhetoric for an issue you know something about. (and if your considering responding with inarticulate verbal abuse about my lineage, or intelligence without touching on the facts of the issues, remember the whole world will be watching.)
The IRA are a pack of thugs, bank robbers, smugglers, counterfeiters, drug dealers and neighbourhood bullies who have killed far more Catholics than the security forces. There is no jusification for atrocities like La Mon and Eniskillen, kneecappings,punishment beatings, or murders of the 'disappeared' such as Jean McConville, and to imply as you do that there is sickens me. And please don't tell me about loyalist terrorists as a way of excusing the IRA's brutality - I know all about them and despise them too. Finally, Northern Ireland is part of the UK and will be for a long time to come because the majority of its citizens are and want to remain British. The British government in NI is no more a 'regime' than the Bush Administration is a regime in the US.
Thanks for the link. The Irish government is simply stating what everyone has always known about Sinn Fein/IRA - they are two sides of the same Marxist coin. The 'Ra has really stepped in it with this robbery - its the last straw for the British and Irish governments who have been trying to move the peace process forwards.
