I have read that ever since we have had scientific polling--it has turned out that whichever way the Catholic vote goes--so goes the election.

Thus the importance of Reagan attracting all those blue collar, midwestern, Catholic "Reagan Republicans".

I am THRILLED to see the DUmmies express these angry, hate-filled anti-Pope sentiments. Hopefully many moderate Catholics will see their vile disgusting comments about their spiritual leader, and will realize that the DUmmies are NOT on their side.

They are so unrealistic anyway--did they actually expect a Pope who would--endorse gay marriage, encourage abortion and start appointing lesbian Cardinals?

Cuban Liberal tends to have some common sense, moreso than most of the DUmmies.

He's a former cop who quit in the last year. If I remember correctly he was going back to school but I can't remember what he was going to study.

He's gay and Padraig (another DUmmie) is his lifestyle partner. Of course, that may have changed since I haven't been spending much time on the computer for the last couple of months because of my broken shoulder.

Benedict XVI ... has directly intervened in American politics.

So The Catholic Church Interfered In A US Election On Behalf Of The GOP

Weren't the DUmmies cheering loudly when John Paul II condemned the War in Iraq as being unjust? Oh, but in the alternate DUmmie universe, that is not considered as "interfering" in American politics. That wouldn't sway anyone's opinion, would it?

But let one Cardinal clarify and reaffirm the Church's long-standing position on the evil of abortion, and that's evidence that Rome was pro-Bush.

These DUpes are so delusional and hypocritical, it boggles the rational mind.

If bush were Catholic he damned well better be denied the same freakin' thing.

I also would like to hear this explanation. Unless it has to do with the Iraq War, it would probably be a list of fictions like stealing the election or being a co-conspirator with Ken Lay.

Benedict XVI is a despicable, and he has directly intervened in American politics.

No, he directly intervened in a matter of Church doctrine, which was his job. If Bush were Catholic and Ratzinger had said, "No communion for guys who fight pre-emptive wars" you'd have been jumping up and down.

I hope his reign is short and trouble-ridden. What a jerk.

"Kettle, thou art black!"

This completely reverses my willingness to have an open-mind about this pope.

Oh please. You're condemning this guy for refusing communion to those he believes are murderers, and you say you were open-minded. Were you really expecting this guy to come out and say, "Women priests, gay marriage and abortion-a-rama?"

Nice way to change my disappointment to Anger!

The first wave of disappointment struck when Ratzinger didn't choose the papal name "Kucinich I."

So The Catholic Church Interfered In A US Election On Behalf Of The GOP

No, on behalf of the Gospel.

Unless in some close state there were Catholics who would ordinarily have been Democratic. Then it did have an impact as the "red" state would if not for this have been a "blue" state. ie Ohio - may have been like this.

So let me get this theory straight: There were millions of American Catholics who were willing to vote for a hard-core pro-abort, but only if that hard-core pro-abort was allowed communion. Yeah, sure.

In fact, it's not at all impossible to argue that Roman Catholics, not fundamentalists, were the "moral values" voters that decided the election.

And it's also possible to prove that the President won on policy and that the values voters thing is a myth...but then, if you weren't in denial, you wouldn't be at DU.

Last year the church apparently was angry that JK voted according to his interpretation of the constitution - and part of the country was mad he wasn't controlled by his church.

I wasn't mad that he wasn't controlled by his church. I was mad that he and other pro-abort pols give God the finger every time they take communion.

This must be hurtful to JK who really does seem more religious than most.

Worshipping Ter-Ray-Zuh's money doesn't count.

need to say "Seig Heil, Il Papa"!

But don't forget, DU is the real mainstream.

[Big difference. The last time I checked, Sheets Byrd WILLINGLY JOINED the Klan as an ADULT. Plus Byrd rose in the Klan ranks to the Grand High Kleagle or whatever dopey name they give to their bigwigs.]

True, but if it shuts them up, they don't need to worry about the difference! (Oh, and DUmmies, where's Ernest Hollings' apology for putting the Confederate flag on the S.C. statehouse? Still haven't heard one...)

lets see BENEDICT put his money where his mouth is and try to excommunicate some of our Abortion Rights politicians.

Sounds like a great idea to me. If a Church command to not be involved in killing babies doesn't mean anything, then what really does?

He takes pleasure in adulation.

Yes, and I remember those solemn frowns from Bill Clinton and John Kerry in front of those cheering rallies...

I wondered if the Bush cabal would pick the next Pope. They did.

Is this guy a Jehovah's Witness?

I know the Catholic church doesn't care if it has my respect or not ...

Well, at least somebody over there is coming out of denial...

Whatta surprise - another "Swift Pope Veteran for Bush"

I can picture Ratzinger in the gun tub up front, spraying Comie positions with that lead firehouse from the twin fifty cals...good times.

[1-800-GO-LESBO.]

ROTFLMBO!

I think that there is lead paint in mother's basement that they are munching on!

Well, the DUmmie drama Queens sure do chew the senery a lot...maybe the set director used lead paint on it...

Can you walk up to a doctor and ask to have a limb removed for no good reason?

Hate to use a TV show as a factual reference, but...recently they tackled this on an episode of CSI: New York. Somebody found a leg in a dumpster, and eventually they tracked it to a guy who had died of post-surgical infection. He had a body image mental illness that caused him to be fixated with amputees and wish to join their ranks. He had tried to injure himself badly enough to get a leg taken off (because as you've said, no doctor would just lop one off for the asking) but advanced vascular surgery saved the leg.

Your argument is quite interesting, and I'll be sure to use it the next time "It's my body" comes up.

Did he urge thousands of Catholics to write to Ohio voters and encourage them to vote for Bush?

LOL!

Someone coined the phrase "Swift boat friars" the other day.

Well, one of the Swiftees went by the monker "Friar Tuck," which is way to much coincidence for me. Definitely a sign of a Vatican conspiracy.

First, I'm not Catholic, But if a person is and doesn't like what the Pope(church) stands for, why be a catholic??

I've seen fellow Protestants leave churches over stuff like what style of music is being played, and these clowns think they get to stay in if they violate every single teaching that separates Catholicism from other denominations. As my wife, a former Catholic, says, "If you fundamentally disagree with the Pope on a doctrinal issue, you're a Protestant."

Yeah, love the Clash too. They probably wouldn't approve of Bush, conservatives and FR. But I think Rock the Casbah is a great metaphor for the war on terror. Thus I am, truly yours, rockthecasbah

They don't have the tiniest inkling what it was like to grow up in Nazi Germany, and have your life on the line every day.

And Ratzinger committed at least one capital offense against the Reich (desertion) and probably more. But they won't cut him any slack for that, because he's not a fan of baby-killing and anal sex.

Correct me if I am wrong, but it is my impression that 3rd World Catholics are much more conservative on the whole than US Catholics.

Yes. In all the old denominations (Catholic, Episcopalian and other mainline Protestant) the 3rd worlders are much more conservative, and becoming much more numerous. The center of gravity in the Christian religion is moving south, and moving to the theological right.

Also, in The U.S. and Europe, the Catholic Church has been losing members, but in Africa and South America they're growing so fast that the main question is whether an unsaved person on those continent will convert to Catholicism or be an Evangelical Protestant.

Actually, believe it or not, one of them (Strummer?) came out last year or the year before and said the War on Terror should be fought just like Bush is doing it--kick butt and take names.
