New Catholic Patriarch May Derail Hillary's White House Plans
April 26, 2005 | Carey Roberts

Posted on 04/26/2005 4:15:52 PM PDT by CareyRoberts

After a brief flirtation with compassionate conservatism, Hillary Rodham Clinton has returned to her neo-Marxist ways. On April 19 Senator Clinton introduced the so-called Paycheck Fairness Act, a law that would pressure employers to fatten women’s paychecks, regardless of the number of hours worked or job qualifications.

The former Soviet Union once tried to divorce job productivity from wages. Of course, that removed persons’ incentive for hard work, and economic mayhem was the result. But Hillary is a lawyer, not a historian.

By interesting coincidence, Sen. Clinton’s bill was introduced the very same day that, half-way around the globe, Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger was elected as the new pope. Within hours he assumed the name Benedict XVI.

During the 1980s pope John Paul II worked courageously and relentlessly behind the scenes to topple Polish Communism. Now Cardinal Ratzinger is picking up where John Paul left off, publicly denouncing the scourge of socialism.

Faced with a man of towering intellect and unswerving moral courage, the Leftist media has responded by doing what it does best: cavil, criticize, and complain. All but calling the pope a religious bigot, columnist Andrew Sullivan warned, “And so the Catholic church accelerated its turn toward authoritarianism, hostility to modernity, assertion of papal supremacy, and quashing of internal debate.”

The pontiff is a man of rock-solid conviction who decries what he calls the “dictatorship of relativism.” Of course Benedict XVI views abortion as a social and moral abomination, repeatedly referring to it as a “grave sin.” And same-sex marriage is out, as revealed by this 1998 statement deploring the trend that “heterosexuality and homosexuality [would] come to be seen as simply two morally equivalent variations.”

At this rate, maybe the concepts of Right and Wrong, Good and Evil, will soon be restored to the public discourse.

Which brings me to Hillary’s ill-disguised aspirations to reclaim her throne in the White House and welcome the long-awaited feminist-socialist utopia.

Last June, when Senator John Kerry and President Bush were running neck-and-neck in the presidential race, Cardinal Ratzinger issued a letter that prohibited priests from giving the Holy Communion to a Catholic politician who is “consistently campaigning and voting” for permissive abortion laws.

Some priests felt that defending a woman’s “right to choose” represented a higher moral principle than protecting the lives of unborn innocents, so they chose to ignore that instruction. But that letter served to re-awaken the consciences of millions of Catholics, who on Election Day abandoned the Democratic Party in droves.

When to comes to radical feminism, the pontiff doesn’t mince words, either.

Last July 31 he released a Letter to the Bishops of the Catholic Church on the Collaboration of Men and Women. Representing a brilliant and incisive critique of feminist theory, the Letter zeroed in on its two fundamental flaws. [http://catholicinsight.com/online/church/vatican/menwomen.shtml] First is the tactic of provoking gender conflict. Feminists try to convince women to “make themselves adversaries of men,” explained the Cardinal, which “leads to opposition between men and women.” Second is the concept of androgeny, what Ratzinger denounced as the “obscuring of the difference or duality of the sexes.” This flawed theory of gender “has inspired ideologies which...call into question the family in its natural two-parent structure of mother and father.” If that analysis didn’t give Hillary heartburn, the Letter’s conclusion must have: that feminist “distortions” and “lethal effects” were undermining the “natural two-parent structure” of the family.

Senator Clinton, it might be smart to stop giving away those autographed copies of “It Takes a Village to Raise a Child.”

But the German-born pontiff was not advocating a nostalgic return to the paternalistic days of kinder, kuche, and kirche. Instead he wrote about the need for an “active collaboration of the sexes” in order to bring the “feminine values” of faithfulness and caring to the forefront.

Last week, shortly before the Cardinals commenced their deliberations, then-Cardinal Ratzinger was invited to deliver the homily. In his remarks, he specifically singled out liberalism, collectivism, and Marxism as sources of perversion and error. [www.catholic.org/featured/headline.php?ID=2062]

Liberalism, collectivism, and Marxism – that pretty much sums up Hillary’s whole political philosophy.

Now that this guy is Pope I wonder if their disobedience will be noted and acted upon ?

It would be nice if the Pope started cleaning house in a big way.

Another winner Mr Roberts!

At this rate, maybe the concepts of Right and Wrong, Good and Evil, will soon be restored to the public discourse.

Somehow I feel that relativism is so entrench through the Hillary like Marxist doctrines and policies over the past 60 years that this will be a tough sell to most people, who have come to forsake liberty and true freedom for the promise of a cradle to grave Government run life. Little do the sheep know whats at the end of the road.

We need to start on obvious evil...such as the recent child abductions, rapes, and murders. Everyone can agree that that is evil.

Then you move to the next despicable thing, such as terrorism.

We have to walk the people backwards in increments, the same way they were walked into the position they are now.

Hillary is possibly the worst the Left has to offer. She may also be the most dangerous threat to the election of a Republican President in '08.

Thank God for Pope Benedict XVI.

Some Democrat Rep. wants "terminally ill" CHILD SEX OFFENDERS...even rapists, to be RELEASED from prison!!! What a great idea....release "terminally ill" child sex offenders so that they can kidnap, rape, and kill cause they're going to die soon anyway....geesh.

Only a Democrat can come up with this crap, so sadly, I can't agree with you that everyone recognizes these things as evil...sad.

MOST normal people recognize them as evil. The democrat in question doesn't, but I bet his constituents do.

We are after numbers here. Just like most people recognized that killing Terry Schiavo was wrong, most would recognize this idea as wrong, too.

Talk with people you meet in the store and at the doctor's office...I bet you they agree more with us than the democrat in question.

Oh, I forgot! You are behind enemy lines!

Well, for those out here in the heartland, my strategy would work. You will have to get the Seattle people to agree on something else as being definitely wrong.

You should try killing stray cats as an interinsic wrong. (Lots of PeETA people there. THEN you could talk about how much Pope Benedict likes stray kitties!)

I am fired up tonight, as you can see. LOL!

The more I read the writings of Pope Benedict XVI, the more he fascinates me and the more I admire him. If anyone is interested, you can find out more about his beliefs and ideas at the ewtn website.

As far as Hillary goes, there is only one thing that really infuriates her and that is to wake up and not see her name or picture in the paper. Therefore I have made a personal vow to keep an eye on her, but discuss her as little possible.

"Hillary Rodham Clinton has returned to her neo-Marxist ways"

I am really bewildered how some American commentators can call Clinton-like policies 'NEO-MARXIST". Do they know what marxism means? It means mass poverty, starvation, concentration camps etc. To be sure, leftists are on the whole a bunch of fools, but until they respect the rule of law and democratic principles of governement, calling them Marxists or communists is at least an overdoing. But maybe I don't get something, after all I am not an American. Can we really expect a neo-communist coup d'etat in the US?

The lunatic fringe is as always addicted to wishful thiking. There's nothing else left for them. I may be naive, but I think that full democracy is a cure to all political diseases. Look at Germany. the SPD was an avowedly communist party some time ago. When they won the election they changed their line.

This speculation about the Pope's possible impact on American politics misses the main point. Liberal American Catholics are mostly too simple-minded, and too un-Catholic, to be significantly influenced by this highly intellectual Catholic traditionalist. They will vote Hillary in overwhelming numbers.

Here is the thing to watch: not American liberals, but American (and other conservatives). My hope is that Benedict will deepen conservatives' intellectual skills and confidence, thereby strengthening their ability to reach the ears of moderates, and fortifying their own character and effectiveness.

You are correct. Liberal American Catholics are first and foremost, liberal. They will go for Hillary and abandon the Church.

However, just as many Protestants (not to mention quite a few converts to Catholicism) will balance their numbers, if not override them.

The good thing about Pope Benedict is that he is going to cause a "sheep vs. goats" moment among all Christians. I really think that is a good thing.

I know you probably meant Catholic Patriarch in a feminist sense, but it has a certain Eastern Orthodox ring to it. And I think that technically, the bishop of Rome is Patriarch of the West and one of the five original patriarchs of the Universal Church, along with Jerusalem, Antioch, Alexandria and Constantinople.

I could not agree with you more, Catholic liberals are LIBERALS first and foremost. The other aspect I find strange is that the few Catholic liberals I know, don't attend church, funny how that works.

re: Benedict potentially causing a sheep vs. goats moment among Catholics -- he may well. And yes, it would be good. The Church would be able to play its role better, not only religiously, but culturally. Right now, the American church is hostage to its left wing.

The 1939 movie "Ninotchka" makes the same point. The Soviets had the same unisex philosophy that characterizes modern feminism. They are. however, undermined by women's desire for what the Commies used to called capitalist decadence.

What has happened in the American Church is what happened in France after 1789. Except that the liberals had the power to confiscate all the possessions of the Church. Using this leverage, they sought to turn the French Church into an agency of the state. The Church had more or less been in an alliance with the Crown since Francis I, but now they found themselves reduced to a much reduced role and, futhermore, expected to think along liberal lines. But the effort to reform the Church led to a split in French society which lasted for two hundred years. Now secularism has more or less won the day, only to find itself under threat from the Muslims.

Bingo!

When you actually talk with rank and file Democrats, you'll find that they're far more...reasonable... than the national leadership.

For the most part, conservatives are completely missing the boat on this.
