Minutemen spread, and too much "compassion", not enough "conservative".

Border vigil planned for California (05/19/2005 © Washington Times) Minuteman organizer James T. Gilchrist, whose 850 volunteers shut down the flow of illegal aliens along a 23-mile section of Arizona-Mexico border last month, has joined forces with another citizens group to help organize a new border vigil in California -- beginning in August.

>>> Maybe if the federal government ignored welfare like they ignore border security, people would get jobs.

Bush: New Corps to Help Countries in Crisis (05/19/2005 © Fox News) President Bush, seeking to put muscle behind a promise to support young democracies, said Wednesday the administration is creating a special corps of federal workers that will deploy quickly to help foreign governments in crisis.

>>> We need more emphasis on the "conservative" portion of the "compassionate conservative" program.

If Bush put more effort into border security, and less into the worldwide version of AmeriCorps, we would all be a whole lot better off.

(And I will only post this once, I promise.)

This is what the fence in a lot of San Diego looks like. It's 8' high, made of rusty corrogated Viet Nam era surplus military runway matting sheets. The corrogations are horizontal, and form toe holds for easy climbing. The fence actually helps the smugglers, by shielding the mass movements of illegals from the eyes of the Border Patrol. Spotters watch the BP SUVs drive over a distant hill, and then they make their calls, knowing it will be an hour or more before the BP returns to that area. The illegals jump over, and run a few hundred yards into thick brush, gullies etc and are home free.

I do think that the feds are working on this, and the super in Arizona said on c-span that he thinks they are almost there. It has always looked to me like a very complicated set of problems that require multiple initiatives.

Well, at this point, everyone but GWB knows what needs to be done...only problem is that W and the GOP are afraid of being called a racist and/or a bigot by the Left for enforcing the immigration laws.

So the only thing that can be done is for Americans to do what the feds refuse to do. Secure the border and file a class action lawsuit against the federal government for not enforcing the immigration laws.

and the super in Arizona

Are you talking about Michael Nicely, the commander of the Tucson sector of the Border Patrol?

He told a Sierra Vista town hall meeting in February that he was a loooong way from gaining operational control of the border. That was just 3 short months ago. I wonder what changed his mind?

Do you suppose a motley crue of older tax-payers sitting in lawn chairs showing the commander how his employers expected him to do the job they were paying him to do made a difference in his attitude?

Or is he just a slick-meister, telling folks what he thinks they want to hear?

Amen. And the rank and file Border Patrol are 100% on board with the Minutemen. It's only above the rank of Supervisory Agent that they become sellouts and parrot the Washington line.

Can you believe that there was NOT ONE QUESTION ASKED BY THE MSM TO GWB REGARDING THE ILLEGALS in his last national press conference!

The reporters in that news conference are all making way over six figures, and live in gated communities. The only thing they know about illegal immigration is that their lawn service is cheaper than ever, and that's important, because their lazy teenage sons are too busy playing Halo to get out a lawn mower (God forbid.)

Dems and Repubs agree on this scandalous situation. No one will call the other on it.

Some will break ranks when you have an election looming on the horizon.

well no matter where you live, one more 9/11 type terrorists attack and GWB and the GOP can bend over and kiss their political arses good byyyyye...

I can't believe that we're spending hundreds of millions of dollars on border security in Iraq, Afghanistan and Korea while leaving the back door wide open on our own homeland...but we are!

I don't know what the Repubs' problem is. Pass a bill that has all the work programs and "partial" amnesty you want COUPLED WITH sealing the borders!

Make it ALLLLLLLLLLLL LEEEGAAAAAAALLL!

What is there not to understand?

The GOP problem is that they are afraid of being called racists and/or bigots by the Left for enforcing the immigration laws. Of course one more terrorist attack and GWB can bend over and kiss his legacy good byyyye...and the GOP can look forward to being the minority party in Congress again... the 'Rats will beat the GOP over the head like a pinata "the GOP failed to secure the borders and now we were attacked AGAIN!"

I do not remember his name, he was the top dog over the Tuscon area. He sure was unwilling to say anything against the Minutemen. He talked about the additional people he has gotten and will get and about technology. It is an indepth interview you might enjoy seeing.
