Bush Brain Down the Drain?
PEJ News (Canada) ^ | July 1, 2005 | C. L. Cook

Posted on 07/02/2005 12:51:07 PM PDT by rface

The Valerie Plame case has sat festering at the heart of the Bush administration for more than two years, waiting for the pin to burst the pustule promising to bring down the criminal enterprise currently ruling America. Prior to the disastrous invasion and occupation of Iraq, the Bushists sent out Joseph Wilson III, former ambassador to Iraq, to Africa to investigate allegations Iraq was seeking yellow-cake uranium, the raw ore needed to refine nuclear weapon grade material. Wilson, a dedicated professional, took his job seriously and his investigation debunked the charge completely. But, that wasn't what the Bush camp wanted to hear.

Wilson duly reported his findings, but the Bush administration decided to ignore them, preferring instead to reiterate the bogus yellow-cake claims to bolster their campaign to attack Iraq. In Bush's State of the Union address, a constitutionally mandated responsibilty, the claims were again mentioned, prompting Wilson to write an op-ed peice, published in the New York Times, challenging the veracity of the "President." That would not do. White House minions quickly leaked information concerning a "deep-cover" CIA agent, a distinct violation of national security laws, effectively outing one Valerie Plame. Plame happens to be the wife of Joseph Wilson III.

In what was widely perceived as neat punishment, and a shot over the bow of potential future whistle-blowers, Plame's career was effectively ended. But less noted, Valerie Plame's contacts over a twenty-plus year period were too exposed. Reportedly, more than 90 of them were assassinated as a result of the leak. This more worrisome considering Plame's area of interest was the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction, the very area of pressing concern regarding Iraq in 2002/3.

As with most of the dirty doings of the current administration, the Plame Affair has been buried, put through bureaucratic processes to buy time for Bush. But nothing stays buried forever. The blatant criminality of their actions are now bubbling back to the surface, and Bush's Numero Uno, Karl Rove, affectionately known to George as "Turd Blossom" looks ready to take the fall for the capital offense of treason.

The significance of this latest development will not likely appear in the headlines for a few weeks yet, but it cannot be over-emphasized. Karl Rove (nee Roverer) has been, more than any other individual, the architect of what the world has suffered in these last years of the Bush presidency. These treasonable offenses, revealed thanks to Time Inc. are indefencible. The effects of this will rock the empirical plotting of George W. Bush and his accomplices, if given enough exposure.

I have not heard the White House or Rove do any denying ---- is it possible that Bush and Rove are letting this story gain some momentum so that they can pull the legs out from under it later this week????? - or - which direction is this flag blowing?

I've seen no evidence whatsoever of this, so I'm chalking it up to wishful leftie thinking til I hear otherwise. It doesn't fit with what's been said about the source so far, either.

Stopped reading...HERE:

Prior to the disastrous invasion and occupation of Iraq

That this "writer" is so out of it he isn't even aware that the libs have pretty much dropped Wilson because subsequent information shows he was WRONG about everything says a lot about the idiocy of the left.

They probably don't have a clue what Cooper's notes say. They did not write them.

When the notes are released, the story will either wither, while we conservatives pound the bejeebers out of these Dems who've fingered Rove with no supporting evidence, or it will take off.

They didn't deny the National Guard fake memos either, and that got Danny Boy and CBS to think, "whoopee!" Look how that worked out. I don't know if the White House is run by strategic geniuses or is just lucky, but either way, I wouldn't want to go too far out on the "Rove did it" limb if I were a Democrat or a media person.

Bull hockey --and it's been discussed over and over on this Bd for 2 days--Here's the likely source of the non-criminal leak:

To make a long story short, CIA's counterproliferation division, including Plame, hosted a meeting on 19 Feb 02 to discuss sending Wilson to Africa. A State Department (INR) guy took notes--and he likely had no idea she was a NOC. Somewhere between 7-10 July (after Wilson's NYTimes article, but before Novak's) a memo was sent to Sec Powell via White House trip communications, and it leaked. This doesn't seem to me to fit under the relevant statute.

BTW, Victoria Toensing made a similar case to Lowry's last month. And though I don't have the background to assess the legal arguments, as a practical matter this case looks to be going nowhere . . . which might be a better argument than citing a nonexistent privilege.

The writer of this garbage must be competing for the Guiness Book record on how many lies you can fit in one paragraph!

This guy is piling up lies faster than a Rather wrapup.

Laurie O'Donnell's musings aside, does anyone think the NY Times and Time would send reporters to jail to protect Karl Rove?

This story has no "momentum". This is merely some liberal musings posted on a website called "Peace, Earth, and Justice News." Rove is too smart to get himself into any kind of serious legal trouble. This "story" is just slighly more reasonable than the insane rantings posted at DU.
