Naturally, Christians are supposed to take that sort of thing in good humor. But if we'd assailed any of Japan's religious icons in that fashion, the Leftists across the world would be demanding apologies, reparations and so on.

Let's face it folks, it's okay to offend only if it offends whites, Christians and Americans. Everything else is off limits.

Hi,

I am not a native speaker, but I would read the Japanese as

"Christ was murdered, Christmas was born."

This kind of thing is offensive, but in a way it makes me feel good to be Christian because we don't riot and cut off heads when it happens.

The initial impulse is to get angry at stuff like this, but it really calls for a "WWJD" moment.

This is an excellent ad! I never saw it. What a bold move. And a thought provoker.

It says what I have been saying to Japanese who are non-Christians and haven't the faintest idea about the origins of Christmas nor of the reality of the Christ.

Bravo!

If the Catholic and Protestant camps in Japan can keep up such revised attempts to reach the Japanese, they just might raise their 'market share' above the current, sad 1.5% it has been at since they landed in Japan and starting marketing outreach 400 years ago.

HOLD ON FOLKS!

This is excellent. Don't jump to conclusions.

The whole thing is a most BOLD slap in the face of Japanese who don't have the foggiest idea about Christmas.

What is shows is Christ heading for execution 2000 years ago. It says in Japanese on the right panel: "Christ was killed". Then on the left it shows a crowd of Japanese streaming out of a subway station 2,000 years later. It shows one young couple just engaging in standard, modern, secular, surface and hurried Japanese Christmas customs that have NOTHING to do with Christ and His story or passion, such as rushing to exchange presents, (like the girl with the flowers), and in Japan in many cases, on Christmas Eve (which some couples might normally not do but do because it is "Eebu" ("Eve"), spend the night at a hotel and fornicate for unmarried couples. There is another fellow behind rushing to get home with a "Christmas cake". Behind him is another guy with a Santa Claus hat. Occupying most of the picture is average Japanese salary men and office ladies just making their normal day around the subway system. It is placed in an area of the subway entrance itself to mock what an average scene looks like in rush hour.

The Japanese language then says on the left "Christmas was born (came about)".

Taken as a whole then, in Japanese: "Christ as murdered, and we have Christmas". In smaller words in Japanese in the bottom corner: "The Truth that the Japanese never found, is right in this movie". Then the details of how to get the movie on DVD or VHS.

If anything his is amazingly evangelistic for Japan in such a public place.

In all my years in Japan, this is one of the most amazing pieces of commentary by way of ad that I have ever seen. Maybe even the best. It probably got a lot of Japanese to THINK for once during their busy days about Jesus Christ.
