Its ironic that Andy Crouch referred to the pseudoscience of Darwinism in his article Environmental Wager [Christianity Today, August, p. 66]. Some of his comments about global warming are identical to Darwinist claims. He writes that its all-but-unanimous scientific consensus and there is no serious disagreement. Not only are such unrestrained statements red flags in critical thinking, Crouch needs to do a little better research.
If he did, he would find that the scientific journals Science and Nature were criticized for censoring research refuting global warming. Such bias was also found in government panels and other groups on climate change. Politically related science issues always require close examination because many people like to rationalize science results to their preconceived conclusions.
It has been discovered that the melting of glaciers has been attributed to global warming in areas were no warming has been recorded or where deforestation is the cause. We also know that 99.8% of greenhouse gases are beyond our control. Carbon dioxide is the most dominant greenhouse gas, but water vapor traps more heat. Nearly 100% of water vapor is produced by nature.
To be fair to the criticized science journals, all of these facts are backed by published research. Recent papers also found that our cleaner atmosphere is letting more sunlight reach the surface. This is causing temperatures to rise. In fact, the Sun is responsible for most climate changes.
Recent meetings of leading climatologists from around he world have called global warming a fairy tale. Some said the Kyoto Treaty would never have been written today with the data we now have.
No one is saying dump pollutants into the atmosphere. However, Christians have confronted Darwinism with solid science, now they need to do the same with global warming.
