August 16, 2005 Don't do it Mr. President! As a strong believer in the War on Terrorism, and a staunch defender of the president, I believe that if President Bush were to cave to the pressure to meet with Cindy Sheehan, the wrong message would be sent to the terrorists and his even giving her the time of day would negatively impact the outcome of the war.
Because of these strong beliefs, I feel it is time to start a "Don't do it" Campaign for President Bush, to let him know that many of us support the time he has already given to the Sheehan Family, and most Americans understand why it would be a huge mistake to give Cindy the photo op she and the Anti-American Media are lobbying for. This would be the absolute worst picture to be shoved on the airwaves around the world, giving much aid and comfort to the enemy during a time of war.

I feel sorry for this woman. She has lost her son, her job, and now, her husband, and at some future point, I predict she will realize that real American Blood has been and will be spilt because of her stance and the encouragement she is giving to the terrorists by spewing the lies of Michael Moore conspiracy cranks.
Don't do it Mr. President! I am certain you are under tremendous pressure to meet with her again. But, just say NO! Nothing will be gained by her getting in your face, and you caving to the request will simply embolden other anti-war demonstrators and the terrorists.
Freepers, please join me in this campaign. Contact the president and tell him....DON't DO IT!
No blackmail, no extortion, no bribery, no threats, nothing will allow him to cave to the pressure...and WE SUPPORT HIM IN THIS DECISION!!!
Jenny
My question is, why does anybody expect the President to meet with her? He's met her once already, and she's repeatedly expressed her hatred for him and his policies. Would Clinton have voluntarily met with any Clinton haters? I don't think so.
that's a bit harsh...instead of encouraging the President "don't do it" (remember, he's already met her) just go with your message that we support him and admire his courage to "stay the course" rather then to capitulate to media pressure and NOT govern by polls.
hey that's a great idea, i think i'll camp outside clintons house and demand he come out and talk with me.
I listened to the Randy Rhoades show yesterday, and she claimed that it was Crucial that the president have Mrs. Sheehan's question answered to her face. What was the question? "Why did my son die for a lie?"
The whole premise of the question is based on a lie, so why should he answer it?
It would be the wrong thing to do.
Jenny
Every American ought request 5 minutes with Cindy, then complain loudly when she refuses to listen to anyone...
Why, did I miss something? Is the president considering meeting with her? I hope not...it'll certainly do more harm than good.
You could try, but I don't think that Presidents or former Presidents should have to bow down to everyone with a gripe. That's absurd on its face.
She needs to get in line behind the NAACP. In fact, she's had one more visit then they got if I'm not mistaken.
Yep. They made it public they didn't like Bush either. Then griped when he kind of told them to kiss his butt.
I may doubt a few things about Bush, but I do believe he cares about our soldiers. It's one of the things I like about him.
How pathetic.
Better you should ask folks to contact him with a message of support, or write a letter to their local newspaper about Sheehan's lies.
"Is the president considering meeting with her?"
As I listened to the air america show last night, I became concerned, simply because Randi Rhoades was talking about all of the "conservatives" and republicans who are "imploding" on the war, and that some of these people had privately gone to the president to convince him to meet with Cindy.
It was after listening to her show that I felt the need to start some sort of dialog today to show support for his decision NOT to meet with her AGAIN, and a campaign for people who agree with his decision to email or call and show public support for his decision, rather than let the left media control the verbiage being shoved out on the public on this choice.
Jenny
I listened to the Randy Rhoades show yesterday,.......
How pathetic.
It was almost more than I could take to listen to her spew for a half hour, but she had a live interview with Cindy on the show, and I wanted to get her take on things and understand how this story was being spun.
Pathetic? No, just curious.
Jenny
Let her sit there till she rots. Send more Fire Ants.
Take some family members of Branch Davidians with you.
Your problem is that you give credence to the spewage that the left puts out.
Something Randi Rhoades said has you concerned?
Like I said.....pathetic.
Sorry, but I agree with pathetic.
For her dialog to force you to act in any way is pathetic. She's insane and preaches to the insane.
Sheehan's cause gets more mileage out of his not seeing her.
:-)
Actually, he did visit them in 2000. He was greeted warmly (though not nearly as warmly as AlGore) and was very gracious to them. About 3 weeks later, they started running the "Bush likes lynching" TV ads. That was the end of that relationship. [Insert the long play version of the classic funkfest "Backstabbers" here. "They smile in your face..."]
I may doubt a few things about Bush, but I do believe he cares about our soldiers. It's one of the things I like about him.
I'd be willing to bet real money that Sheehan has not visited a single wounded soldier. Even if she has, you can bet she hasn't visited nearly as many times as the President, who in case people haven't noticed, is a busy man.
Don't worry...he's not about to meet with the ditch witch. She so unstable she's probably on the secret service watch list.
I don't think you're pathetic, but don't let the Left's perception of how things are affect yours in any way. These people are constantly convincing themselves that the War Monkey Cokehead Chimpus Khan is going down any day now. They've convinced themselves he's a moronic criminal, so every day they become more convinced that they will outsmart and expose him. I'm sure that this time next year she'll still be talking about conservatives imploding on the war, and about how impeachment is just around the corner.
Anybody that dares to lecture the President on what it is he should or shouldn't do based solely on the ramblings of some 'rat hack on a two-bit radio network is in my book, pathetic.
If the terms grossly naive and/or incredibly ignorant come across as less inflammatory, I'm willing to use those instead.
I think the WH political staff in cluding Rove consider that the longer Sheehan is out there making a fool of herself, the better it is for Bush and the party.
I kind of like the idea of a "Just say no to Cindy" campaign." Is everyone aware that 85% of the families of the fallen have not met with Bush? And she wants a second meeting when they've yet to have a first?
You and Jenny are gonna have plenty of leg room in that boat.

We need coast to coast support for the troops, now, more than ever.
I'll bet Hanoi Kerry and Hanoi Jane are supplying funds and
morale support for the left.
We need to make an example of these 2 traitors from the 60's.
Anyone who thinks Hanoi Kerry isn't behind the anti war crowd needs to get a clue.
Spineless US Senate would rather protect Hanoi Kerry
than deal with the anti war crowd.
It's time to support our troops and ignore the jelly fish in the US Senate!
There is no need to impeach Hanoi Kerry from the US Senate
He is there illegally!

did in the past read on and learn the truth.
Hanoi Kerry was still a USNR officer while he:
gave false hearsay testimony to Congress
negotiated with the enemy
helped the US lose a war
abetted in the deaths of millions
created a hostile environment for all servicemen
Why is Kerry still in the US Senate?
This is in violation of

Ooh, screwed up the title. Oh well, it's a groovy tune no matter what you call it!
Stop holding back, hole in one, and tell her how you really feel!
Bears repeating. Sheehan is the perfect face for the anti-war movement, two-faced, hypocritical, whiny, etc. She really couldn't be a better illustration of what they're about.
Yes it is!
Do you ever watch the Bernie Mac Show? They did a montage with it, where he was suddenly realizing how skillfully his older niece had been playing him for a sucker, basically controlling when the other two kids obeyed and disobeyed him. Hilarious!
The Leftists are unhinged. Don't buy into their insanity.
OK FReepers, I now start the NY chapter of Five Minutes with Cindy. We need T-shirts. Where do we camp out besides Crawford?...can she still go to her house with the order of protection filed with the divorce? She'll probably bunk with Michael Moore when she gets back.
"Sheehan's cause gets more mileage out of his not seeing her."
I know, and that is why I am concerned that in a moment of just wanting her to go away (appease her) he may give her a minute of his time.
I don't think she deserves it, and I believe it will undermine the war.
I don't really care if some of you think I am pathetic for listening to Air America. I watched Farenheit 9-11 for the same reason.
I wanted to understand, I wanted to hear for myself what was being said, and only after hearing what some believe to be true was I able to effectively counter in many, many political arguements on line with people who believed Michael Moore.
That was last year before the election, when the leftists I was chatting with were drum beating with Halliburton, etc...Because I watched the movie, I was able to understand what they believed, and then could more effectively counter it.
As for Cindy, I still think she is a pawn, and that she is being shamelessly exploited, but during this exploitation, I don't want her mother status to be used to "compel" the president to meet with her just to save face.
I still say to him....
Don't do it!
Jenny Hatch
"I don't think you're pathetic, but don't let the Left's perception of how things are affect yours in any way."
The lefts perception does not affect my perception. I am very clear on how I perceive the political landscape. But when you have Victor Davis Hanson writing a piece last week claiming: (and I agree with him)
"My own view remains absolutely unchanged that we were right, in both a practical and a moral sense, in removing Saddam, that despite depressing lows and giddy highs, the democratic reconstruction of Iraq will work out, that an emerging constitutional government will make both Americans safer and the Middle East in general more stable, that preexisting jihadists are flocking to Iraq and being defeated rather than being created ex nihilo, that anti-Americanism will gradually subside in the Muslim world as millions see that we are consistent in our support of democratic reform, that the United States military has proved itself the preeminent fighting force in the world today and is on the offensive in Iraq and winning a difficult asymmetrical campaign, and that old allies in Europe and Japan and new ones from India to Russia will slowly come to appreciate American constancy and leadership as never before."
But I am not naïve enough to think that most Americans at this moment would agree with all or any of that."
How many of you Freepers are that Naive??? Sure here on this web site you call Cindy names, and make up cute little demonizing pictures, while the MSM shoves her face, her words, and her story on the American public day after day after day. If you don't think that has an impact on the choices the president makes, think again.
I just think we as conservative activists should loudly proclaim our support of his decision NOT to meet with her again,
This thread is not about me and my supposed idiocy regarding where I get my information. It is about supporting the president during this time of blatant propaganda, spin, and being willing to go the distance in Iraq, and not be swayed by a media circus.
Jenny
I have to say I agree with you , Jenny. Hearing both sides is ok. It's after hearing both sides that I am more convinced than ever that the left is losing it.
They are losing it. But I don't think this is a time to retreat and start patting ourselves on the back that all is well, and we don't need to stay vigilent.
Have you heard about this counter protest? Really exciting.
http://www.moveamericaforward.org/index.php/MAF/FullNewsItem/you_dont_speak_for_me_cindy_tour_includes_caravan_to_crawford_rally/
Jenny
Yes, I have and am so glad to see it. I wish I could attend one. I am not a military family, (my father is a vet though) but I wish there was something in my area where I could show my support for the President.
I do worry about the Republicans chances in '08. If this was an election year, we would be in trouble. Too many people are dissatisfied with Bush right now. It is definitely not a time for us to sit back and relax.
Calling up the President to say, "Mr. President, we're afraid you're too dumb to avoid meeting with a deranged anti-Semite anti-American liar who supports the Iraqi 'Resistance,'" is not encouraging or supportive--Why don't you remind him to keep breathing while you're at it? And it is not going to change public opinion about the war, it is reaching the public that will do that, so write a letter to the editor or something. And if you think there is "enormous pressure" on Dubya to go out and meet with this person, then you must think his advisors are all calling him from a group home for the severely mentally challenged.
This may sound harsh, but it needs to be said: Your idea is flat out the stupidest I have ever seen advanced in five years at FR. And the idea that you would chew out people who disagree with it as if they are in some kind of denial is just beyond the pale.
Also beyond the pale is you characterization of Freepers as "demonizing" Cindy Sheehan. This woman is joined at the hip with groups that call our troops "killers," send money to terrorists in Fallujah, express solidarity with the "Iraqi Resistance' (you know, the guys who blow up little kids getting a candy handout?) and hold hate-spewing anti-war demonstrations mere yards from the sickbeds of our wounded at Walter Reed. In addition to her numerous lies, she has said that this country is not worth dying for. So she is an anti-American, anti-semitic fifth columnist publicity hound drama queen liar, and if you don't like those facts you should move on to some other subject.
If you really want to help, write a letter to the editor in support of the war or exposing Sheehan's lies.
That's all I have to say on the subject, so please don't post back and insult me by telling me how naive I am to believe something (that support for the war is ironclad) I don't believe, never did believe, never will believe, and never indicated in any way anything that could be mistaken for such belief.
Hey, we all have to do what we see is best for the cause. I'm proud to stand with the president in his choice in not meeting with her. And am willing to publicly shout that from Free Republic.
I don't like the way that Cindy Sheehan has been treated on Free Republic these past few weeks. But as I said, we all have to fight this fight in the way we feel is most effective. For some that is demonizing her with words, pictures, and sarcasm. For other's it is looking at her with compassion and the attitude "there but for the grace of God go I". I choose to take the compassionate position, and dis those who are using her shamelessly.
Wether my activism is stupid or clueless or whatever, it is what it is. We see things differently and that is just fine with me. I don't hold any ill will towards you or anyone else, I just want the president to know, publicly, that I support his decision NOT to meet with her and hope that he does not cave to any pressure he may feel.
Jenny
You seem to care nothing for the facts, or what other Freepers think. I say that because you just ignored what I wrote about "demonization" and went on to post another lecture. Cindy Sheehan is not a zombie or a tool. She is a willing fifth columnist. Her grief pimping makes it more likely that my nephew will come back in a coffin, and she couldn't care less. If she cared, she wouldn't be running with Code Pink. She will get somebody else's son killed and not give a damn because she got her 15 minutes. And none of your "compassion" (read: license) for her will bring that boy back. It is impossible to "demonize" a person like Sheehan who acts as a PR hack for the servants of Hell who spill blood in Iraq every day.
I know you have good intentions, but you know where the road paved with those leads. So please just go away quietly and implement your silly plan. But whatever you do, don't post any more of these tone deaf moralist lectures to me, because I will just hit the abuse button.
But I would like you, if you really care about the truth, to go to this thread to get the gist of the author's point, and then see this post for the answers to his quiz.
Now...can someone really demonize a person by photoshopping her head into a photo when her public statements are interchangable with those of David Duke? I submit that rather than a person demonized, she speaks the doctrines of demons. That's what one could expect from an Al Qaeda PR flack.
"I promise this is the last time I will post to you. I don't mean to be harsh, though sometimes the Gunnery Sergeant Hartman in me comes out."
Go ahead and post to me, I'm not afraid of getting spanked, flamed, or yelled at. I have strong feelings about women who are grieving and the potential for mischief that state of mind can often bring up. It's obvious to me that Cindy Sheehan was unable to contain her grief and went looking for answers.
Unfortunately in America we have a whole group of writers, film makers, and propagandists who willfully rebel against the truth, blatently spin the facts, and are Oh so willing to prostitute someone like Cindy and use her grief to further their own socialist causes.
I think one day she will realize the harm that her actions have caused, (although if Jane Fonda is any sort of a predictor of behavior, that is debateable), and will rue the day she ever got caught up in the anti-war movement.
I listened to her again tonight as I was driving to my exercise class. She was on air america again. (And we all know that air amerika is using this story to distract from their financial scamming.) It is interesting to me to listen to her talk. Grief can do funny things to some people's minds. Unfortunately, her quest to make sense of her sons death has taken her to some dark places.
I liked what Crenkoff had to say about her...
http://chrenkoff.blogspot.com/2005/08/passion-of-cindy-sheehan.html
I think he was able to define what is going on without attacking her as she has been here at Free Republic. I also think the president did a good job with his commentary on her and about her.
I don't know that there are any easy answers, and I do believe in accountability for ones actions. How should she be held accountable for the potential damage she has done? I believe history will prove that she was a deluded and duped woman who was mercilessly used by America Haters. But until that time comes, I still feel sorry for her, and don't feel the need to make her into more than she is.
AND, I still support the president's refusal to meet with her again.
Jenny
