They made about as much impact as the "Downing Street Memos," which Pitt thought would bring down the Bush administration.

When is the next "The Day When Everything Finally Changed"?

There was no analysis of what the documents actually said, no work done to look at the content, no comparison with the official record, no phone calls made to check the facts of the story, nothing beyond a cursory and politically motivated examination of the typeface... Translation: It doesn't matter if the typeface alone proves that the document must be a forgery. After all, it's the seriousness of the charge that matters! The document may be a forgery, but the contents are still valid!
Yeah, right.

Mary Mapes' FICTION book goes into bookstores next month so you might want to show up if she makes a book tour appearance in Atlanta. Please be sure to take a cellphone photo of the look on her face when you identify yourself.

Hey, PJ! On the Amazon site, people write book reviews. I think one of Mary's reviews should be this edition of the DUFUs or a link to this DUFU. What do you think?

We had a senior document analyst named Marcel Matley fly to New York to look at all the documents And then you had a French analyst named Marcel Marceau act out a man sitting at a typewriter, typing.

I gulped and tried to breathe... That sounds vaguely like Hillary's book, when she described her reaction to Bill finally telling her the truth about Monica.

that in the process of downloading, scanning, faxing, and photocopying, some computers, copiers, and faxes changed spacing and subtly altered fonts. He thought that this basic misunderstanding of how documents changed through electronic transmittal was behind the unfounded certainty and ferocity of the attack on the documents. Oh, wow...why didn't we see that before??? It was the scanning, faxing, and photocopying that "subtly altered" those documents and CREATED the superscripts that didn't exist in the 70's! How could we have been so wrong?

Mary The Washington Post: Mapes's Darkest Hour The '60 Minutes' Producer Finds Herself Quite a Story By Jennifer Frey
Washington Post Staff Writer
Monday, October 4, 2004; Page C01
(Excerpted):
"...The worst of it came when Mapes's estranged father gave an interview to John Carlson, a conservative talk show host at KVI radio in Seattle, who once worked with Mapes at television station KIRO, also in Seattle.
"I'm really ashamed of my daughter, what she's become," said Don Mapes, who had a falling-out with his daughter years ago for undisclosed reasons. "She went into journalism with an ax to grind, that is, to promote feminism -- and radical feminism, I might say -- and liberalism."

I ran into other producers and correspondents and collected hugs and kisses and congratulations. You must get positively orgasmic at the thought of bringing down a Republican.
