Russert Nails Ted Kennedy
say anything blog ^ | November 15, 2005 | Rob

Ted Kennedy is the latest in what has become a line of Democrats to get a smack-down on their historical revisionism.

[RUSSERT, reading quote:]

We know [Iraq is] developing unmanned vehicles, capable of delivering chemical and biological warfare agents … all U.S. intelligence experts agree that they are seeking nuclear weapons.

There is little question that Saddam Hussein wants to develop them. …

In the wake of September 11th, who among us can say with any certainty, to anybody, that those weapons might not be used against our troops or against allies in the region?

Who can say that this master of miscalculation will not develop a weapon of mass destruction even greater — a nuclear weapon. …

RUSSERT: Are those the statements you’re concerned about?

Kennedy: Well, I am concerned about it, and that’s why I believe that the actions that were taken by Harry Ried ….

We’ve got to get to the bottom of it...

RUSSERT: But Senator, what the Democrats stood for on the floor of the Senate in 2002, let me show you who said what I just read: John Kerry, your candidate for president.

He was talking about a nuclear threat from Saddam Hussein.

Hillary Clinton voted for the war.

John Edwards, Joe Lieberman, John Kerry. Democrats said the same things about Saddam Hussein.

You yourself said quote “Saddam is dangerous, he’s got dangerous weapons.” It wasn’t just the Bush White House.

Youch.

Fire it up
Let the engines roll
It's time to burn it down
Keep bleeding on 'til the day you die
Forever love it loud,
Hellfire, doom
Watch the hatred spin
Beyond the speed of sound
Fire it up
Let the engines roll
It's time to burn it down

Keep moving on

Face your fear
Accept your war
It is what it is

Do not get overly excited about Russert "sounding" as though he is calling any Democrat, especially Kennedy out re past statements. Russert is a bleeding left wing moaner and complainer. Check his bio, he worked for the Democratic party before he became a newscaster...just like Stephanopolous, just like Chrissie Matthews. They and all of the MSM clearly realize that their party of choice is crowded with a field of incompetent losers that they have been desperately trying to prop up for years. That has been their mission.
The only possible reason for someone like Russert to suddenly get tough take on someone like Kennedy is to try to prop up his TV audience which has been brutally critical of his left leaning liberal bias as of late. He and all of NBC has lost big time to other news networks over the last few years, particularly FOXNEWS.

Probably I am wrong, but did it actually take the President's strong statements to get the press to start asking Dems the tough questions on their prewar intelligence statements? If so, why the HELL didn't they ask them on their own accord??

You are correct.

But anyone who stumps the chump...Kennedy...is worth a post here.

Russert is from Buffalo with a long DU tradition.

The press will "get around to it" when they are damn good and ready.

After "the" election, after the latest investigation, after....

It's all so they appear to be non-partisan. None of this comes as a surprise. Kerry was for the war as far back as 1997, saying that we were not rushing into the decision.

Geez, those pictures of Teddy Kennedy that you posted are disgusting. I need an Alka-Selter.
Of the 4 Kennedy brothers he was certainly the last...and the very least. What a repulsive human being. It's time for the good Lord to take him.

Nor the eldest of the 4 brothers, Joseph. He was the oldest of the 4 Kennedy brothers and the real star of the family with the most promising future, from what I have read. He was killed in WW II. An aviator lost in a mission well after he had flown his required number of flights and could have been off the line. What a difference between him and baby brother Teddie who left a woman in a car to drown while he saved his own skin.

Wow, that's great. But then again, for a "Sovietophile" like Oswald, they were all ACLU members...

What a difference between him and baby brother Teddie Not really too much difference; Joe was flying with some hot babes on a joy flight when it crashed. I would say they both had a great deal in common.

Question? I thought that Joe Kennedy was test piloting a prototype radio control bomber that detonated its payload unexpectedly in mid flight. I have despised the antics of Ted Kennedy for years...and was not impressed by JFK's use of the Oval Office... But, I thought JFK & his elder brother did serve their country honorably during WWII (and that service merits respect even if Joe was joy-flying when he died). I'm open to learning new facts, but I've never heard that Joe Kennedy or JFK created a pseudo-hero image for themselves as has John Kerry. And Teddie...well, I cannot think of anything even remotely kind to say.

never heard ..JFK created a pseudo-hero image for themselves

JFK's exploits as commander of PT-109 during the war were embellished by a family friend writer, and many "objective" observers think he should have been court martialed because of his actions...

As per wikepedia....

PT-109 was a PT boat commanded by future United States President John F. Kennedy in the Pacific Theater during World War II. Kennedy's actions after the sinking of the PT-109 allowed him to claim "war hero" status in his political career, and may have contributed to his long-term back problems. Kennedy's idling boat was rammed by the Japanese destroyer Amagiri on August 2, 1943 in the Blackett Strait between Kolombangara and Arundel in the Solomon Islands, cutting it in half and killing two of his men. Kennedy led the survivors, clinging to the wreckage of the boat, to safety on the deserted Plum Pudding Island. An article about the experience was printed in Reader's Digest just before Kennedy's first Congressional run, and the campaign reproduced the article and distributed it to potential voters. Though Kennedy emerged a hero (awarded the Navy and Marine Corps Medal) many in the military including Douglas MacArthur thought he should have faced a court-martial for losing his boat in such a manner.
