I'm sorry, I find this a little hard to believe. Most people love to volunteer their opinions when asked... and most people don't mind rubbing their votes in the faces of those who disagree. Furthermore, I haven't seen any exit pollsters, but I suspect they were professionally dressed. Pollsters, after all, are interested in getting accurate numbers. They have no incentive to skew their own samples. That certainly could be the case. I know the pollsters don't want skewed data, but that doesn't mean they dont turn off potential pollees. The idea had been floated here back then, that someone knew that most pollers were liberal college students or some other kind of group that tended to be liberal, but you could be right. I know I have never been approached about being polled, I'd volunteer. That said, I know that for some reason, liberals tend to want to speak out about their beliefs more than conservatives. At least this is my experience, and includes my many years as a liberal.

Really. That's the sort of stuff that should go into a DUmmie FUnnies book. Sounds like you could get an entire chapter out of it.

I'm a day late on this thread, but you point to at least one issue.
In 2000 I ducked everyone at the polling place who had a clipboard in their hand - it was AM and I needed to get to work.
In 2004 it was my daughter's first year to vote in a presidental election and I wanted us to do it together. She had a very early AM appointment, so we voted after work. We waited in line 3 hours. I was wearing a red cloisonné elephant on a chain as both jewelry and a declaration of intent.
Lady with clipboard heads toward us in the parking lot. Walks up, says "hi", looks at me very intently and then walks away. My daughter made jokes about how I scared the lady away with my "evil mother look" (the one I use on the kids when they are out of hand). Later I started wondering if she just made a decision not to poll me because of my elephant decor.

The DU website makes the other leftist sites look almost normal-almost. These people are not useful tools to move foeard their cause. They are not what we would label 'useful idiots' they are actually 'useless idiots' they have no value, except negative for liberal causes. Idiotic statements, extreme conspiracy theories at the drop of a hat, kook-fringe at its best, whacked at its worse.
DU probably helps the GOP more than the Dems.
