SLIDELL, La. - A Louisiana man who stayed home when Hurricane Katrina struck the Gulf Coast spent his time during the storm capturing video of the destruction.
Kennard Jackley of Slidell is retired from the Merchant Marines and spent his life out at sea.
He has never evacuated during a hurricane and stayed behind for this one, although he did send his wife to Texas.
He captured home video of the waters of Lake Pontchartrain as they rose outside and ended up sending him to the second story of his home.
Jackley estimates that Katrina did about $50,000 of damage to his house.

You've got to check out this video.

Here's a direct link to that photo. Didn't seem to come out in my post. It's a photo of what appears to be a built-in swimming pool that had been ripped out of the ground and deposited next to someone's house.

If you would like on or off the Louisiana Ping list please FReepmail me and your name will be added or taken off of the list.
There is another video that has not been released yet made by a friend of mine that lived near the Coast in MS. He and his wife watched the Weather Channel before the storm hit and decided to ride it out. TWC was predicting a ten to twelve storm surge for his area. He knew his home's foundation was fourteen feet above sea level ... so why leave? They survived by crawling on top of furniture that was on the second floor of their home. I look forward to seeing the video soon but what a dummy.
If that video gets posted online, please send me a link to it. Thanks.
Will do! Just talked to him and he still has it in his video camera. The good news is that they are living in their home again. He is happy to get out of a camper trailer.
Hey, I live on the north side as well. Pinewood area.
How'd you do for Katrina? Hope your house is still standing. :-)
I know that Mr. Jackley is selling this video on DVD I would like to know if anyone would know how I can get one. email me cespedes5@yahoo.com
