SETTING SUN - Air America Radio Loses Phoenix Station
The Radio Equalizer- Brian Maloney ^ | January 5rd, 2006 | Brian Maloney

Posted on 01/05/2006 3:13:34 PM PST by chuckpez

For Air America Radio, it's officially fade-to-black in the Valley of the Sun. Roll the end credits, please.

After months of speculation and an ownership change, KXXT-AM's fate is finally clear: its future lies in religious programming, not liberal talk radio. Could a format flip be any more dramatic?

Especially strange were the station's continued assertions they weren't sure what would happen, even as hosts on conservative competitor KFYI-AM repeatedly declared it ready for the dust bin..........

Air America is doomed.

Who in their right mind would buy advertising space on that awful network?

Soros can finance this quagmire for only so long...

Mark Levin keeps spreading, Err America keeps shrinking. Not that they would understand, but with Capitalism, people vote with their wallets.

DU considers this some kind of rightwing conspiracy--really!-- but what can we expect from people who believe in subsidized everything?

A worse business model I have never seen-- buy time on stations? Make it back on advertising?

Truly a liberal model in action.

I'm pretty sure that that is how a lot of syndicated radio shows work.

We need a fairness doctrine! The corporate nazis give the right wing fascists all the air time they want, but Air America has to pay for it. IT'S NOT FAIR!

Odd that a southern Arizona paper killed Michelle Malkin;s column just a short time before the market killed the anemic Air America.
Think that editor isn't completely out of touch with his market?

When you agree to broadcast whatever someone pays you to put on the air, you don't get to choose what hour long commercials you will run. Something tells me there's a larger market for religious programming than for boring liberal propaganda, so this is a step up for the station.

Seriously I think what will happen is that after all their finances dry up they will run to Congress for funding. They will argue that conservative talk radio owns the AM dial and they need to bring some balance to the game - you know the old separation of powers routing like they use with the current Congress and WH! Remember what a stink the Nazi Ed Shultz made when AFRN backed out of carrying his loony lib show, constantly beating up on the military and Bush? He got a hearing and a vote in the Senate - they cannot make it on their own, so they run to Congress or the Courts always. They truly are soooo desperate they just seethe with anger over Bush and his Administration and the lack of power in the Congress. Every week that skank Rhodes talks about how they cannot even have an official hearing with subpoena powers in Congress - they have to meet in the basement. John Conyers has "play hearings" on the media control. Whiners, every one of them. Phoenix is only one market, but I am glad it will be gone here. The 1010am frequency used to be conservative talk until right before the 2004 election. I am sure the DNC or a DNC supporter effected the change in an attempt to get 24/7 air time for DemonRATS and not have to worry about the McCain/Fiengold limitations. That is it folks, Soros or not, they will ask the taxpayers to support it for balance. Cannot win at the ballot box and now they have their hands full with Impeach Bush and Cheney and Demand Censure for Bush-Cheney Misconduct

Yes. Its demise did not occur as predicted in December. I haven't heard much of their status lately but I doubt it's remotely as good as the lefties think it is. I was hoping it would have fizzled by now but I didn't get wish. Market forces will determine how long they stay on the air.

I actually kind of hope that Err America continues to suck Soros' $ and remain on the air. It's good advertising on how looney the Left has become.

I can stand to listen to no more than 5-10 minutes. It's just that awful of radio. Knowing this, I often recommend it to friends/coworkers who are in the middle to listen. I mention that they listen to all the hate these conspiracy moonbats spout.
