Into elective office, is talk radio really an effective stepping stone?
With a number of others diving head-first into Congressional campaigns this year, probable 2008 Minnesota US Senate candidate Al Franken apparently isn't the only one with ties to the medium. In addition, several have at least indirect connections with liberal radio network Air America.
And at the center of their fledgling 2006 candidacies, some are fighting off talk radio-related controversies.
While relatively little attention has so far been paid to these hopefuls, that should change as political silly season shortly kicks off.
A scorecard:

If Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, or Dr. Savage ran for Congress or the Presidency can anyone imagine the wailing and ranting from the LEFT about having to drop their communications outlet? Why is Franken not run off his show since he has already moved back to MN and if anyone doubts he is running for Congress, then I have beach front property out here in AZ I would like to sell you! What hypocrisy.
true
Now Double Standards, thats something else entirely.
For the left, they scrutinize everything conservatives do to make sure they are playing by the rules. But for the liberals, rules aren't nearly as important as outcome. As long as the outcome is attained what does it matter how it was done?
Think my local Err Amerika station is biting the dust at 12am 3-1-06. On the Goyette show this morning they interviewed Bob Christy, the manager and he said he had nothing to report about opening up tomorrow morning on another frequency and he was waiting for the layoff checks and perhaps that was what would happen after the day was over. This relates to 1010am, KXXT in Phoenix, AZ. Brian Radioblogger has had a couple of inputs on this in the recent past. Ed Schultz has just announced AAR is completely off the air as of March 1. So it is over one would conclude, to be replaced with religeous broadcasting - hows that for turnabout!!!
The story seems to be the same no matter what part of the country they close up shop - "We were so sucessful it is hard to understand why we are going off the air!!". KXXT Goodbye Anouncement
