An update to yesterday's post on House-Senate conference on tax reconciliation bill. Nobody is covering this...not in the MSM or anywhere else, but it's of vital import for the economy.

The website cch.taxgroup.com is reporting that a deadlock between Sen. Grassley (R-Iowa) and Sen. Baucus (D-Mont.) has stalled the conference on the tax reconciliation bill. The leader of the House delegation to the conference, soon-to-retire Rep. Bill Thomas (R-Cal.) has told Grassley to resolve the conflict before formal proceedings begin. As a result, Grassley told the TaxGroup that the bill will be delayed indefinitely. "The chance of getting anything done before the next (congressional) break is practically impossible now," he said.

Grassley told the group he is looking for middle ground with Baucus in order to get the 60 votes necessary to pass the bill. Baucus has said the bill has to include AMT relief. Taxgroup asked Baucus whether Dems could support a bill that included both an extension of the investor tax cuts and AMT relief. "It's very unclear how we are going to work this out," he said, "it's very fluid."

Check the previous article to understand why 60 votes are even necessary at www.beltwayblitz.blogspot.com.
