I would put it to you that there are some on this site who are against any coöperation with anyone in the Middle East, but not because of "racism": they agree with Ahmadinejad that the time of the Apocalypse is nigh, and they want it to happen just as soon as possible.

Well, it just gets better and better, don't it? The ports deal is a dark moment for Freepers. We truly showed our smelly ass on this one. A real shame. All we had to do was THINK, and many of us just plain failed.

I fear darker forces are afoot than mere unappeaseability (is that a word?) I would put it to you that there are some on this site who are against any coöperation with anyone in the Middle East, but not because of "racism": they agree with Ahmadinejad that the time of the Apocalypse is nigh, and they want it to happen just as soon as possible.

No doubt there are a few, but their natural constituency doesn't read that well and types with two fingers so FR is a tough forum for them.

Of greater concern to me are all the Bush-hating FReepers who claim to be patriotic conservatives or Republicans.

There is also a large contingent who have lost faith in the current leadership and are ready for the genocide to begin. The most vociferous advocates of reverse jihad would cheerfully turn our soldiers into real baby killers without pulling any triggers themselves. Then, years later, when the enormity of the error sinks in and the psychological devastation wrought upon our troops can no longer be denied, the reverse-jihadis will escape accountability.
