Donkey Cons: Behind the Book
House minority leader Nancy Pelosi and her friends are squawking a lot these days about how Democrats will win control of Congress in 2006 by campaigning against a Republican "culture of corruption." But Nancy has a problem: Donkey Cons: Sex, Crime, and Corruption in the Democratic Party proves that the Democrats are lying.
Donkey Cons was conceived more than two years ago, when no one outside Washington had heard of a lobbyist named Jack Abramoff. How? As journalists who scour state and local news every day, we noticed something: It seems almost any crime can be excused or ignored as long as the perpetrator is a Democrat:
But no one had ever tried to fit all the scandals of the Democratic Party into a single book. Once we started doing it, we quickly discovered why. The problem wasn't a shortage of Democratic cheats and crooks, but an astounding abundance of them-a veritable cornucopia of corruption, a direct line of scandal all the way back to the 1700s.
After just a few days of digging up Democratic scoundrels, it began to appear that the main difference between the Democrats and the Gambino mob is that Democrats qualify for federal matching funds.
The Kennedy Crime Family, as Howie Carr calls them, could inspire a book of their own. (Howie...? You'd be the perfect
Some reaction from amazon.com (I, too, caught part of the author on BookTV):
MOONBAT: "I finally had to stop reading this drivel after about halfway through. While I do not believe the Democratic party has clean hands, neither do I believe just about any of the crud these two idiots have come up with. I just got down (sic) watching one of the authors, McCain, on C-Span's BookTV and the guy comes off as a raving lunatic. Total garbage."
But on the other hand: "Impeccably researched, with over 600 notes, DONKEY CONS credibly proves its point that the Democrat Party is thoroughly corrupt and always has been. Beginning with fugitive, and former vice president Aaron Burr, this book details how the founders of what would become the Democrat Party were corrupt, then chronicles how that corruption became a trademark of the party in the ensuing centuries. McCain and Vincent argue that the fundamental difference between America's political parties is that when a Republican commits a crime he resigns in disgrace, but when a Democrat commits a crime, he never faces punishment and typically becomes a national icon of the party, to boot! Starting in the 1700s and finishing with the Abramoff scandal, DONKEY CONS exposes the Democrat Party's corruption, immorality, and hypocrisy."
Another DUmmie who never read it: "What a load of BS! This guy is a GOP wingnut with a history or racist ranting. This book is nothing more than lies and more lies. If he wants to document corruption, he should look at the Reagan administration which had the highest number of felons of any administration in history. (Bush seems to be catching up, however.) Sad to see such deluded folks trying to sell the GOP party line. Of course what can you expect from a Rush Limbaugh dittohead?"
Glad you enjoyed the book which you never read, pal. Most likely people on DU or AAR told you to go to amazon to
Meanwhile: "Interesting bits are, among others, the very possible connection between Joseph Kennedy (President Kennedy's father), a proven bootlegger, and gangster Al Capone. Also, the mafia's role in getting Franklin Roosevelt elected and of course JFK as well. But by far the most important stuff is the stuff that concerns more current events. The book chronicles how the democrats (like Ted Kennedy) in the early 2000's often advocated the idea of Saddam having stored of biological and chemical weapons. Also, how many democrats advocated Operation Desert Fox which bombed Iraq. This Desert Fox was done under Democratic President Clinton. But when republican President George W. Bush knocked out Saddam's Iraq the democrats predictably (but very wrongly) rallied against him. I just wish this book had been critical of former democrat President Jimmy Carter whose total mishandling of the Iranian situation involving the Shah resulted in the US hostage crises of 1979, the 1,000,000 murdered victim Iran-Iraq War, and a whole lot of trouble for Iranian Jews (80,000 of them at least) under Khomeini(sp?). But a great book this is all the same."
