I still would like for someone out there to tell me how I can stow a knife, pens, sunglasses, cell phone, radio, batteries, and LOTS of other stuff in mere pockets?

You can't. The answer is to do what I do...hand it to your wife and have her store it in her purse!

Homeschooling was only in its infant stages when I hit the G&T program, not entirely unheard of but not chosen by many. And most state governments were giving parents who wanted to homeschool a really hard time, trying to make it unheard of.

ROFL! Now there is a DUmmie who has posted a poll over in the DUmpster: What's Your IQ?

As we would expect, most of them claim to have IQs that are well above average:

BTW, benburch claims to have an IQ of over 140, based on SAT results (circa 1976) of 700 verbal and 700 math.

Yeah, see my mail reply. Actually, his scores were 700 verbal in gerbils and 700 math in meth!

"I voted "other"...

I've taken IQ tests before and scored between 148-156...so I tell anyone who asks that I'm around 152.

However, I only tested in the 85th percentile for admission to law school, so I might be dumber now than in 1999 when I took my last IQ test.

Not that IQ matters worth a shit for anything anyway. I can't find a decent job. I dropped out of law school. I can't earn enough to pay the bills. I can't manage my life worth a damn. And I see people much lower on the IQ scale (friends and family primarily) who have nice jobs, nice homes, nice cars, etc."

Gee, maybe if you got yourself out from in front of the PC, and looked for a job for a change, things might turn out differently. Sheesh!

I'm glad you're comfortable with it.

Well, it's not that big a deal, is my point.

I love this:

Apparently, if you're smart you're arrogant for saying so, especially without any additional qualifiers. So, rather than use the hurtful terminology of "retarded," "gifted" or "genius," let's use the imperfect-but-widely-used IQ scale for an unscientific approximation of DUers' intellect.

Gifted and genius are as "hurtful" as retarded. OK.

The imperfect-but-widely-used IQ scale would be the totally-worthless-self-assessed-IQ scale, of course.

I note there are 7 DUmmies who actually rate high on the honesty scale, however. (IQ < 70).

Wonder what the analogy part of the gerbils test is like.

"You fail to see that the analogy is not the attribute, but your behavior.

Asking a room full of people their IQ is right on a par with asking their cock size. Too bad you are so brilliant you couldn't even see the analogy I was making; your ego wouldn't let you.

Did you know that most sociopaths are highly intelligent, but they are also failures. They tend to feel that they are enormously gifted and that in a just universe they would be rewarded with success and riches. The fact that they aren't fuels their sense of injustice which in their minds justifies their anti-social behavior.

This may be getting a little too close to home for this closet community to bear.

Funny as hell!

I read a book (yes, I'm no genius, but I CAN read!) about the thin line between genius and insanity. I guess I'll have to dig it back out to compare with today's DU offerings ;'}

They come to the home to test living conditions, to see if the sawdust on the floor has been replaced recently. Ooh, I bad!

I was in a g/t program in grade school. One of my grade school teachers gave my parents advise AGAINST me joining this program but we went ahead with it. I had to change schools, make new friends - mainly new friends who were a lot more 'book smart' than I was. It did nothing for my self esteem. In fact, I think it destroyed my self confidence. The expectations were high. I could never live up to them. I could talk an owl out of tree when it came to current events and politics at a very young age. I had zero interest in learning anything about science or math. Even those branded as gifted have different gifts. I felt like a failure. I never measured up. It took me years to get over this...I don't know if I really ever have.

While this person wasn't placed in the g/t program due to racial preferences, doesn't this pretty much describe what Thomas Sowell has said about Affirmative Action in college placement in his book on the subject? Kids who would be very successful in a lower tier college are pushed into a higher tier college because of racial preferences and end up feeling like failures because they do not measure up to their peer group. Consequently, they end up dropping out of college at a much higher rate than their peers who weren't given (or didn't accept) AA preferences and were allowed to compete with other students on their own level.

Of course, this one could have been like you and buckled down and actually worked for the grades he could have made, but then that would have taken him out of the center of the universe.

'Noone' mistakes 'lose' for 'loose' here at FR, we all do it on purpose.

Now the 'noone' thing, I'm not sure about.

I can remember being told I was "gifted".

I can remember being told that teh sky was teh limit.

It was all a lie because society today no longer rewards the genius (I say that without any trace of snobbery, it's simply a description),

it no longer rewards the free-thinker or teh maverick,
it rewards the mediocre, the safe and dependable. You have to put up with being resented your whole life, called an "elitist" because you don't think the world should be run by mediocrities dumber than a box of rocks and as a child, you get physically attacked too.

What world do these people live in?
I can remember being told I was "gifted".

When I was in school the ones that rode the short bus weren't "gifted" they were "special"... semantics I guess

It wasn't that big of a deal to you- probably because you're so grounded. But these images can grow to be larger issues if unchallenged. And since we're talking about a poster at DU, I know their life is somewhat shattered.
