Sometimes it helps to take a step back and see the big picture. One way my wife does this is by regularly reminding us both of how lucky we are to be Americans. This has the salutary effect of making a lot of our problems---problems that seemed bigger the moment before---appear in a larger context to be not so bad.
A lot of people worry about money. As we are chasing it, needing it, not having enough of it, we start to imagine how good it would be to be very wealthy. And I will say that if one starts out inherently happy, money will probably make one even happier. However, it is definitely possible to be extremely rich, extremely popular, and extremely good looking, and still to think that something is wrong with your life.
Mel Gibson's recent run-in with the law (and his own demons) illustrates this. As we were all discussing the anti-Semitic portion of his comments, we kind of lost track of something else he said...
