An enraged girlfriend who fatally shot a Palm Beach County firefighter

An enraged girlfriend who fatally shot a Palm Beach County firefighter, then turned the gun on herself might have been upset about their decision to abort their baby a few weeks earlier, a witness told detectives.

Laura Grunas, a Plantation police officer, argued with her boyfriend Robert Peat on Aug. 4, and police had to tell her to leave his Plantation home. When she returned a short time later that night, Grunas killed Peat and committed suicide, police said.

Abortion Murder Mystery: Miami Herald, now the Sun-Sentinel:

About 30 YO old Grunas, policewoman who killed her boyfriend and then commited suicide over their abortion conspiracy. This article below gives more insight into the girl's “motive” and was written one day later by Lisa J. Huriash of the Sun-Sentinel in Fort Lauderdale, which is near where the incident occured. The Sentinel says about the boyfriend and the final decision to get an abortion, that he, “felt it was the right thing to do”.

http://www.sun-sentinel.com/news/local/palmbeach/sfl-pcgrunas22sep22,0,142961.story?coll=sfla-news-palm

I think what happened is that, between the two of them, the boyfriend, Peat the“pro-lifer”, initially had a clearer perception that abortion was wrong and gave in to the girl's idea of getting an abortion. After much discussion I believe she persuaded him until he “felt it was the right thing to do” and then after it happened, they both realized it was wrong. In the end they both lost respect for each other. I think afterwards he wasn't willing to accept responsibility for not standing up in the first place or accepting that he made the wrong decision also.

Blame is assigning responsibility where it does not or should not belong. So who's to blame? Nobody's to blame. Blame always looks at the past and responsibility looks to the future. Entertain solutions, not problems. You both take responsibility, or you should take responsibility yourself when other people won't, but instead I believe this is what really happened:

I could just hear her argument now, “If you thought we shouldn't abort the baby why did you agree?” So now in ”their hour“ of greatest need, when she's finally beginning “to own up” to what they both conspired to do. I could hear Peat who maybe doesn't find "his woman" too attractive anymore and she senses this, so she tries to bring it all out in the open, which he doesn't like. I believe irresponsible Peat broke down and yelled something stupid like, “I didn't kill the baby, you did!” Of course this did not put this girl into a “resourceful state”.

I think since 31 YO Peat refused to accept “mutual responsibility” and she couldn't blame the baby anymore, she also refused to accept "full responsibility" for what “they both ” conspired to do. I think she got furious and wanted to assign the blame to Peat, so he too could fathom the horror and guilt of “how it feels” to “have murdered a helpless baby all by yourself”.

The Miami Herald said:
She stood outside in front of Peat's garage yelling, “Why is everyone blaming this on me? He killed my baby.”

MiamiHerald.com | 09/22/2006 | Fight over abortion preceded police officer's murder-suicide:

”Roth advised that Peat had told him that when they found out she was pregnant, they decided to terminate the pregnancy. Peat was enormously upset about it due to religious beliefs, but felt that it was the right thing to do.

The perverse inversion of parenthood that is abortion is downright satanic. Sad story.

I agree. What could be more fiendish than killing your own young? They tell these idiot girls that their babies are mere pot roast until birth, by the time they find out otherwise it's too late. Sickening.

she is so against killing that right after she killed her baby she killed her boyfriend and then she killed herself. sounds like she was downright comfortable with killing.

Hard to interpret from a single sentence, but it sounds like the relationship was a little rocky, and the guy did not want the baby for practical reasons, whatever his religious beliefs. Let's face it - once you have a baby with someone, you're effectively married. Perhaps he did not want to be married, yet, or he did not want to be married to her.

Why do I believe that he's probably the person who suggested the abortion? Practical reasons - a woman might technically have half the responsibility for a baby, but the father has full financial responsibility for the cost of its upbringing. The other reason is that my understanding that it's almost always the guy who wants the abortion. Guys sleep with girls because that's what guys do. Girls sleep with guys usually only because they love them, would therefore be comfortable with having their babies. This is why it's generally harder to get the girl to agree to an abortion. For the guy, the baby is just an accident, whereas for the girl, the baby is imbued with a lot of the feelings she has about the guy.

Are those your assertions interspersed with the links? It seems to me, if that is the case, that you feel assured that Dad, in this scenario, is less culpable in the decision to abort based on his "religious beliefs."

Tell me: Which religion is it which gives the big thumbs up to premarital sex? How strong were this mans religious convictions when he impregnated a woman who was not his wife--or did she coerce him into that as well? You don't think it is at all possible that he pressured her to abort because he was ashamed at having impregnated her to begin with?

I could just hear her argument now...

No, you could not, unless you are working on her legal team. But please, continue to imagine all you like.

Post abortion syndrome is brutally real. How many other women have become suicidal or homicidal and consumed with anger and guilt at their abortions? Remember Lorena Bobbit? She cut off her husband's male member in a fit of rage; she was post-abortive as well.

This is a sick, pathetic case which could have been totally avoided...

I think you have a good point here, but lewt's be clear: Christianity didn't cause this, exacerbate it, make the abortion more likely or ameliorate anyone's guilt in any way. The guy wussed out on his faith in more than one way, and both of these people did someothing any idiot could figure was wrong without the help of any religion.

I know of at least one case (and there are plenty more, this is just the one I read details about) where a woman had a post-abortive psychotic break.

Yer honor I am not guilty of murder because of remorse. Let me be.

How does "remorse" over an abortion translate into a decision to murder someone else and then yourself?

These screws were loose prior to any abortion.

I certainly did not mean to imply, in any way, that Christianity or ANY religion played a part in this couple's decision to abort their child...quite the opposite. When one begins to betray their faith (premarital or extramarital promiscuity), one sets their feet in a decidedly wrong direction. Look where it led in this case: Three deaths. This is not the fault of Christianity. This is the fault of those who turned their back on the Redeemer.

Thank you so much for the ping to this thread.

Abortion is a horror that creates only more horror - most horrific of all: those who choose it, both male and female, actually believe the lie that they are easing their burdens by it. Abortion is satanic: for he was "a murderer from the beginning," and he is "the father of lies." That's the whole story of abortion: murder and lies. Most tragic of all, our nation - America! "We shall nobly save, or meanly lose, the last best hope of earth," said Lincoln - has enshrined this practice as a human right in law, and American taxpayers are by fiat sustaining it.

Stories such as this need to be told.

Abortion is the Choice of Satan, the father of lies and a MURDERER from the beginning.

True words. We know who our enemy is, and can easily recognize those who serve him. May we always have wisdom and humility with which to weild the Sword of Truth, and may our Shield of Faith ever prevail against his fiery darts. May we be travelling this hard road - in enemy territory - with our dusty feet always fitted with the readiness to preach the Gospel of Peace with God, the reconciliation wrought of Christ Jesus Alone by His satisfying atonement for sin at the cross, the proof of His Power to Overcome: The Resurrection from the dead! Amen! - that True Life will abound to the many, our dear Lord of Life - raise up more workers for Your Fields!

The whole point of the post was that there first was a "Miami Herald" article that didn't really give us a motive why this girl would suddenly say these things and shoot this guy. "The Sentinel" gave us a motive or possible motive and that was that this guy was indecisive about whether abortion was right or wrong. The guy should be equally culpable for the baby. When I said I could hear "her" now, I was imagining that she was probably angry about his inability to own up to the decision they both made and obviously she was suffering more emotionally over.

"It takes two to tango", and that although she chose to be angry, I imagined that it may have been possible that he could of helped diffuse the situation and helped put her in a more resourceful state.

His friend implied that the guy was against abortion but felt "it was the right thing to do". People that don't stand for something stand for nothing. In other words it's quite possible he was being "wishy washy" again after the abortion and not willing to take equal responsibility for what they both chose to do.

Yes, it is quite possible that he pressured her to abort. It may even be possible that he got another girl pregnant prior to this one and that girl suprised him and decided on her own to have an abortion. If he's stupid, a guy like that could easily interpret that to mean he doesn't have to take responsibility for the children he brings into the world. That kind of father is then likely to put other women into the same trouble. And so once again abortion just leads to more abortions.
