A federal appeals court blocked an Arizona state law requiring voters to present identification at polling stations and proof of citizenship when registering to vote. The 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals upheld an emergency motion by opponents of the law for an injunction to prevent the law's voter identification requirements from taking effect for the November 7 elections.
Opponents of the Arizona law said it discriminated against minorities and the poor, who might not have funds to obtain the necessary proof of identification. The law sets a burdensome requirement, Victor Meiser, attorney for the plaintiffs. To get a drivers license you have to show a birth certificate. Immigrants dont typically have such a document and buying a forged birth certificate in expensive.
Meiser also took issue with the alternate forms of identification. Rent receipts and utility bills require an individual to have an actual residence, said Meiser. People trying to avoid being deported often dont have regular addresses. Even if they do, the name they give the landlord may be fictitious. So, its not so easy for them to produce a document with both a valid name and address on it. And what about homeless people? Theyre living in the park, sleeping under bridges, and the like. Howre they going to get documents with their name and address on them?
Judge Constance Payne, writing for the majority accepted Meisers arguments. Letting the law stand would narrowly restrict voting to only those who could readily prove their identity and place of residence, Payne wrote. This is incompatible with the principles of our polity decreeing all men are created equal and one man, one vote. The Arizona law is as odious as earlier laws that required voters to know how to read and write. The right to vote is essential for democracy. Access to the ballot must be free and universal. The Arizona law is hereby set aside.
This is really from the Onion - right?
I supposed everyone also knows the same thing has happened in GA. I am not sure if our GA supremes will be able to get to it but I doubt it.
Frankly, I'm at the point of saying there is really nothing we can do about this election. We are going to lose, possibly big-time. They have everything, from the media to the courts. What do we have besides talk radio?
AZ Con. Strikes again. LOL
Go vote conservative and the rest will take care of itself.
This is a great victory for Democrats. Democrats absolutely must have voter fraud if they are to win any national election.
I also worry about the safety of thousands of voting machines sitting between elections in warehouses all over the country under the tender care of Democrat election officials. I don't trust them as far as I could throw Teddy Kennedy.
I hope the accuracy and integrity of these machines are tested before each use.
