Clinton, Romney, McCain, Giuliani, Obama, Frist, Gingrich, Gore, Kerry, Rice, Edwards, Pataki, Biden Like it or not, the 2008 presidential race is officially underway. Whats missing is a clear front-runner for the Republican nomination.
Georgia governor Sonny Perdue is, perhaps, the GOPs best hope of maintaining control of the White House.
Republicans are Mad about Spending and Immigration
Perdue balanced the budget in Georgia, which insulates him from the criticisms that face any candidate that comes from our irresponsible, deficit-swelling congress.
Perdue passed the toughest immigration legislation in the country, while Washington did nothing.
Independents are Mad about the Iraq and Trade
Since Perdue wasnt in Washington during the vote to authorize the Iraq war, he can approach it with an open mind and no political baggage.
Regarding trade reform, Perdue can reach out to natural allies like Gingrey, Norwood, Deal, and Westmorland, all of whom have been outspoken about cracking down on Chinese trade abuses (especially regarding child and slave labor).
Perdue was the GOPs Only Bright Light in the Mid-Term Election
With Perdue at the top of the ticket, Georgia Republicans picked up both the Lt. Governor and Sectary of State offices and expanded the Republican majority in the statehouse. Republicans in the rest of the country took a thumpin........

Why Conservatives Are So Angry
If we have time- we will also be talking about the RACE CARD! Hope you all can tune in....and HAVE A GREAT WEEKEND!
Sonny's a nice guy, and I like him, but he's not ready for prime time.
Well he lied to the citizens of his state so we know he's a good politician at least. What a choice. A former mayor of New York, a governor of Massachusetts, or Perdue. Two yankees and a scalawag. And that's what the Republicans apparently have to offer....
I live here in GA...and to be honest- I LOVE Sonny....but I also have my eye on Mitt Romney....
But the one I like most- but is not mentioned is Steve King from Iowa......
I still need to do more research before I could really throw my support behind anyone...but...I just hate the lack of SHINING Conservative Leaders for '08......ugh!
LOL!!
I sure hope you call into the show and share that!!!!
Sad list of hopefuls, eh?
well clock is ticking!
I need to RUN to the studio...(okay I will drive...)
;-)
Looking forward to today's pings, Eeev!
i wouldn't vote for LYING SONNY if he ran for dogcatcher.
he's the best governor that can be BOUGHT! (he even sells out CHEAP!)

The cupboard is bare... as it stands now and things look bleak. The loss of conservative voices like Allen, Santorum, Weldon and Hayworth will really hurt our influence over 2008.
"roo", i'm eternally fascinated by your arrogant IGNORANCE, willingness to accept OPEN DIShonesty in politicians & your obvious lack of brains.
otoh, with the exception of N-S, you're the ONLY one of the "DAMNyankee coven of lunatics, fools, nitwits & idiots" who has ANY brains.

I do have a question, though. Is Governor Perdue's real name Sonny, or is that a nickname?
The reason I ask is that the name is a definite handicap outside the South.
He doesn't have enough national appeal, and would probably do for the Republicans what Alton Parker (1904) and John W. Davis (1924) did for the Democrats -- lock them out of every state north of the Mason-Dixon line.
He's in a new movie coming out this winter (We Are Marshall), though, and that will open up a lot of opportunities for him.
Chambliss has a good ACU rating. I never hear much about him. I voted for him when I lived in GA.
I agree with you, x. Sonny's a great guy and devoted conservative, but his curb appeal as a national candidate is questionable.
However, I do look forward to seeing "We Are Marshall!"
Exactly.
Hey, while you are trashing a good man like Perdue, why don't you USE CAPS every other WORD while EXPLAINING HOW MUCH you HATE ABRAHAM LINCOLN and think that DRED SCOTT made the CIVIL WAR ILLEGAL AND IMMORAL and how you just know that the SOUTH WILL RISE AGAIN.
Idiot.
you got it right.
Uncalled for.
From what I read, the current SC governor is the best FISCAL conservative in the country.
No, it's not.
I've seen this idiot around before. I didn't make up all the stuff I said about him. Those are paraphrases of things he's said to me.
I like Sonny, too. I am afraid that he might be "tarnished" with just his down home attitude and language in the manner of clinton and carter.
a simple question for a simpleton:
is it perfectly OK with you if politicians LIE & sell out to anyone, who has the $$$$$$ to pay them off???
a simple YES or NO answer will suffice.
"sonny the liar" is that sort of politician.
and, fwiw, your opinion of my typing style means ZILCH. (those sad creatures, who constantly whine, carp & complain about such things are brainDEAD.)
if you don't like my style, "just scroll on by". (nobody, who has an IQ above room temperature, will miss the prejudiced,hate-FILLED, semi-educated drivel that you "bless us with".)

No, he's not.
Your move.
I've offered as much evidence as you have for any of your accusations.
Want to trash Abraham Lincoln some more? You can do that while you're at it if you'd like.
the sound that you hear (to quote my grandfather) is the wind blowing though the hole in his head, where the brains ought to be.
he's just another in a long line of HATERS and prejudiced DUNCES to "bless" FR with their semi-literate bilge.

Ideological purity is all very well, but I don't think Perdue lied OR sold anybody out. He promised a vote on the flag. There was a vote on the flag.
Now, you may disagree with the exclusion of the old Confederate Battle Emblem design from the vote . . . and you may feel that that was a bit of a bait and switch. But Georgia doesn't have a system that allows a governor to specify the wording of a legislative referendum -- that's done by the General Assembly.
So it would be more correct to say that the General Assembly sold you out, if anybody.
Do you have any other criticism of Perdue? And would you have preferred Mark Taylor?
i have a "connected" client of mine from Columbus, who after the election LOL about how CHEAP sonny was to to buy.
free dixie,sw
and for those who asked in PMs, i currently inclined to support Congressman Tom Tancredo, primarily due to his stand on illegal immigration, for POTUS '08. free dixie,sw
If they can send Bill Campbell to federal prison, shouldn't be a problem to get Perdue there, if he's taking bribes. Put your money where your mouth is.
I've got my ear to the ground pretty well, since I work on the Hill, and I've not heard word one about Perdue taking bribes. If you have information to that effect, you're duty bound to contact the AG (who is a Democrat and would be happy to run with that information.)

The new Ga. State Flag:

I don't see a lot of difference. Whether Sonny sold out can't be seen. He has a lot of influence with the legislature. Personally, I'm okay with the new one.
The Battle Emblem (St. Andrews' Cross) was never the "official national flag." It was the naval ensign and a battle flag for a number of units, mostly in the Army of Northern Virginia. The Third National had the battle flag in the union, but it wasn't adopted until 1865.
So the current GA flag is more of an "official" Confederate flag than the 1956 one. But most of the anti-Confederate types are FAR too ignorant to know that.
sorry, but he ruined himself with not only southrons but also with those who value THE TRUTH.
had he come out & stated, "i'm not on your side" or "i'm neutral on that subject" or "i oppose the old flag of 1956.", we would have accepted that.
otoh,a KNOWING LIAR "doesn't go down well" with me. (fyi, we southrons LIKE the CURRENT flag of GA, as it is the WBTS battle flag of a GA unit.)
free dixie,sw
as i said in an earlier post: i like the flag but DESPISE a LIAR!
free dixie,sw
If he promised to get a vote on the flag, even if he promised to get a vote on the 1956 flag, he STILL had to persuade a majority of the General Assembly to draft the wording he proposed.
If he couldn't get the General Assembly to agree to vote on the 1956 flag, there wasn't a darned thing he could do. Separation of powers and all that.
So how did he lie? I don't have a copy of his letter to the SCV, so I don't know exactly what he promised to do. But anybody who's read the GA constitution knows that he couldn't promise to get a referendum with a particular wording . . . only the General Assembly can do that.
as to the CSA battleflags, only the units approved the designs of the various battleflags.
free dixie,sw
I had forgotten about the "Stainless Banner" having the CBE in it, too (that was the one that looked like a surrender flag when the wind wasn't blowing.)
if so, you & i agree.
free dixie,sw
I repeat, if you have information that Perdue has taken bribes, call the AG. His telephone number is 404-656-3300.
Did he promise to "use his best efforts" to get a referendum on the 1956 flag? What exactly was it that he promised?
If that was what he promised (and I imagine that's what he did say, because that's pretty much the standard language), then if he couldn't get the General Assembly to bite, that doesn't make him a liar. Maybe not as effective an arm-twister as he hoped he was, but not a liar.
as the CSA was seeking recognition by France & GB at that time, this was quickly done.
free dixie,sw
You kidding, right?
Perdue for president?
Hey, give me some of what you're smoking.
This ex-democrat who could not get elected as a democrat,
jumped ship to the republican party as a convenience,
not as a conviction, just so he could get elected in Georgia,
and he has done a "tolerable" job of being governor.
He is, however, totally unelectable at the national level.
like i said, he LIED.
free dixie,sw
Seems like at least a quarter of the General Assembly switched parties over the last 5 years or so.
Consider also that the "leaked" memo may have been the result of considerable discussion and nose-counting before a vote. If the issue under discussion was no referendum at all versus a referendum without the '56 flag, that may have been the best deal he could get from the GA leadership.
It would have been an interesting coalition to have to put together, because the suburban Republicans would NOT sign on to it, and some of the rural Dems would not have wanted to sign on to a Republican measure because of the Wrath of Taylor. I imagine the sticking point was in the House.
Also consider who may have leaked it, and why. I could imagine a "progressive" Dem trying to make trouble for Perdue and clear the way for Taylor (who really seems to have believed he could win the 2006 race). Just a thought.
These scalawag politicians who "pretend" to suddenly have "convictions"
like as though they have suddenly had a revelation and "come to Jesus"
but actually do so only because they have seen the wind changing
and know they have to do something to save their political hides
do not rate very highly in my book.
I don't forget very easily.
God may have to forgive them, but I am not bound by that obligation.
That's the difference between me and him.
Vote for me.
Please vote for me.
I can change.
I promise.
Just give me one more chance.
I'll say whatever you want me to say.
I'll do whatever you want me to do.
But please.
Oh please.
For God's sake.
Vote for me.
i've seen BOTH the letter & the memo. you evidently have not.
you evidently think what sonny did was OK. i do NOT.
regardless, i (and all the SCV members/traditional southerners in GA) will continue to despise him as both a liar & a "sell-out".
