COMMENTARY
There's an old adage that states money talks and "you know what" walks. Without getting graphic, most adults and, sadly, most children over the age of 12 are familiar with the saying in this day and age. Regretfully, this philosophy may have played a role in the demise of the Republican majority last November 7th.
George W. Bush has come under some heavy criticism since the disastrous election results for the GOP and most of that criticism is well-founded.
For example, Bush's handling of the Donald Rumsfeld firing has raised many eyebrows among Party faithful. A valid question can be asked of Bush. Why wasn't the Secretary of Defense fired two months ago to provide political cover for those Republicans in Congress who supported Bush's policy in Iraq? Many political pundits agree if Bush would have pulled the trigger on Rumsfeld much earlier than November 8th, it would have helped GOP members in Congress.
Republicans could have then said Bush is being flexible in his approach to Iraq and Americans have to give the new policy time to take effect. But, for reasons unknown to many Washington insiders, Bush waited until the inevitable results came in--which found numerous Republicans in the House and Senate losing by razor-thin margins, but, all the same, losing.
However, where Bush may have sabotaged the Republican majority the most was in his handling of comprehensive immigration reform. Bush sided with open border advocates, often taking a stand against his own Party regarding illegal immigration. The President's demand for a guest worker program and "amnesty"--for what some studies indicate could have been as many as 100 million illegal immigrants--bucked the will of the American people and the elected officials who represented them.
Bush had powerful allies on his side which made all the difference. The U.S. Chamber of Commerce, an organization not adverse to cheap labor, backed the President at every turn. Usually conservative newspapers like the Wall St. Journal joined liberal publications in the demand for so-called earned legalization for illegals. Therefore, Bush seemed willing to put it all on the line for the sake of the all-mighty dollar--no matter if it gave the Congressional majority to the Democrats or not.
Many political pundits believe if the President would have shown a strong front with his legislative brethren, the choice for American voters would have been simple regarding the illegal immigration issue. Instead, Bush was willing to divide the Party by taking the position he did and the Democrats' conquest of the GOP wasn't far behind.
There are even more sources who are far more cynical regarding Bush's possible sell out. Some believe Bush wants to create a North American conglomerate of nations that would encourage free trade across open borders. Critics see this as an attack on American sovereignty and they may be right. If the President was willing to sacrifice his own Party for the sake of the precious dollar, some believe he has put his nation up for sale at the same time.
It has been speculated the war in Iraq may be George W. Bush's legacy for the future. Yet it wouldn't be a stretch to believe the sell out of American law and values may be the real hallmark of the Bush administration for historians. Only time will tell the answer to these questions.
Yes! W could care less about the legal immigrant.
Inaction on illegal immigration is only one of the reasons the GOP got spanked.

That being said, it wasn't just the 'party' that was 'sold out', it was the the entire country and our troops, because without a secured border, we stand to lose the WOT here at home.
Well you know folks, it is all well and good to sit there in front of your computers and post on your blogs your dissatisfaction with the illegal immigration in this country. It is another to get off your butts and start protesting and marching in the streets to demand that our government stop illegal immigration and start enforcing our countries laws. I believe a lot of the problem is people (especially whites) are afraid of being called racists. This is the number one weapon that most minorities use to speak out against something that they feel is unfair to them. In this case, it is the hispanic community. Not illegal immigrants are hispanics and not all hispanics are illegal immigrants. But everytime a law is enacted to oppose illegal immigration, it is this group that says that it is targeted against them. I guess it is because the majority of illegal immigrants are hispanic. Well all I can say is you better start getting some back bone and let their crys (of racist and racism) slide off your back. If not you will have this minority of our nation's population using intimidation to control the actions of the majority. And if they succeed, they own you. And before any of you pro-illegal supporters out there start saying that is just what a white person would say. This is a black American talking to you. And the one thing I know about racism is is it is about denying benefits or inflicting harm because of a person's race/culture. It is not about enforcing laws that apply to every race and culture that fit a particular unlawful status. As in being a bank robber, Id theft or as an illegal immigrant. Civil rights do not out trump our nation's laws. It not a civil right nor human right to be in our country illegally.
Oh yeah, the amnesty blitz is on. They are reporting on the news that most americans want illegal immigrants to be offered a path to citizenship. This is an out and out lie, but our country will not know this unless you get out and let yourselves be send. Your writing to your senators will not get you anywhere but where they want you to be. Unseen and unheard.
Not just "yes," but "HELL yes!" Over a year ago on this forum, I posted repeatedly that Bush's perverse promotion of illegal alien amnesty was demoralizing the GOP base, and would lead to loss of GOP Congressional control.
I'm now convinced that, not only did Bush not care if his own party lost Congress, he was in certain respects---i.e., on the immigration issue---positively looking forward to loss of GOP control, just so he could shove through his nation-destroying amnesty package for the sake of his globalist sponsors.
How any patriot---let alone Republican---can continue to support the man is beyond me.
