Remember when Congressman Charles Rangel introduced a proposal in 2003 to re-instate the draft? When it came to a vote, Rangel voted AGAINST his own draft bill. If you thought Rangel's draft proposal was nothing more than a cheap publicity stunt, you would not be wrong. Of course, Rangel was in the minority party back then. However, now that the Democrats are in the majority in Congress, Rangel has proposed the SAME cheap publicity stunt over the draft again only to be slapped down by Nancy Pelosi who publicly nixed the idea. Keep in mind that Charles Rangel is not just some ordinary forgettable congressman who can be allowed to fade into obscurity. Rangel is now the incoming Chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee which is perhaps the most powerful committee in Congress. If he keeps up such antics, Congressman Rangel is sure to provide some GREAT material for the DUmmie FUnnies in the near future for which we heartily thank him. Of course, what is good for the DUmmie FUnnies is BAD for the DUmmies as you can see in this threatening THREAD titled, "Rangel needs to be taken out in the 2008 primary." So let us now watch the DUmmies slam Rangel for making the Democrats look like, well, DUmmies in Bolshevik Red while the commentary of your humble correspondent, thanking the Congressman for the many laughs he is sure to provide for the next couple of years, is in the [brackets]:
Rangel needs to be taken out in the 2008 primary
[Good luck. You would would have a better chance of catching a leperchaun.]
If he doesn't quit pulling this crap he has to be removed. He's only hurting the party now, so let's get rid of him. We don't need idiots in high ranking positions who hand the Repukes a great issue on a silver platter.
[No. No. We need Charles Rangel right where he is as the CHAIRMAN of the House Ways and Means Committee. Why would you want to ruin our comedic entertainment?]
It's an anti-war tactic. Why is that so hard for people to understand? It puts the pro-war idiots on the spot and makes people think.
[You call it a tactic but most call it a stunt.]
Then why not propose a bill to cut off funds for the war instead? Or to demand a time table for withdrawl? THE MAJORITY IS ALREADY ANTI-WAR. That's why we won our majority. Now let's actally try to KEEP it instead of scaring voters off. Anything that helps the Repukes electoral-wise is stupid, and this is it. DUMP RANGEL.
[Rangel '08. Keep him in place in order to continue embarrassing the Democrats.]
I think he's just trying to shake the American conscientiousness up.
[By providing belly laughs. Rangel supported his own draft bill...until he voted against his own draft bill.]
Because proposing to cut off funding for our troops will GUARANTEE the...Democrats will lose their majority come 2008, and perpetuate the lie that Democrats can't be trusted with national security. Do you want that?
[Yup!]
For the same reason Republicans put forth the proposal to withdraw troops immediately. They forced the Democrats' hand and that was probably a large part of Rangel's intent.
[Thanx again, Charlie!]
Ever hear of "support the troops"? If funds are cut, then the repukes and whore media will spin it and SUCCEED in saying that the dems don't support our troops... That's an even crazier idea and will NEVER pass...
[Now that the Democrats are in the majority they are in a "damned if you do and damned if you don't" situation. The result is starting to look like they don't know what to do. And who says the election results were all bad news? It is going to be FUn to watch the Democrats twist every which way for the next couple of years.]
Maybe Rangel will have the balls to vote in favor of his own stupidity this time Or, maybe not. Again. This is just plain stupid. Just cut off the f*cking funds.
[Or, maybe not.]
Thank God Charlie Rangel doesn't turn to DU for guidance.
[It sounds like he already does.]
Rangel is a f*cking idiot. He should focus on actually ending the war instead of scaring people to get them anti-war when the majority already is anti-war.
[I wonder if this DUmmie has the guts to campaign against Rangel in Harlem in '08 and call him that.]
Know anyone in the 15th district which includes Harlem, who would vote against him? Not me...
[And this DUmmie wins a Kewpie Doll for having a brief moment of mental clarity!]
My Republican father...tried pulling this crap today, telling my 14 yr old son, "the liberals are trying to bring back the draft". I overheard him, and just about blew a gasket. The 'liberals' consist of Charlie Rangel, JUST Charlie Rangel. And I find it the height of irony that those who supported this illegal war launched by a pack of criminals based on lies now want to make hay over someone saying that ALL the people of this country should be expected to make sacrifices. What exactly WON'T Republicans stoop to? And just how in the hell is anyone supposed to believe there are any Republican that aren't anything but corrupt, selfish pricks when even those that tout themselves as 'moderate' and 'rational' spout such utter White House issued bullshit talking points. And this isn't the first time Rangel has proposed this, so why in the hell is everyone getting their diapers in a bunch now?
[Methinks you need to do a diaper check on yourself.]
Unless you are truly prepared to vote FOR a draft, it's an idiotic topic. Otherwise, you are creating fodder for the fools on the right. Someone tell me specifically which Democrats are going to vote FOR a draft. We all know the answer is nobody. So why even open up this can of worms? We just look stupid. I can't believe Rangel is pulling this bullshit play again. Just de-fund the war. I guess that is too direct an approach for a "genius" like Rangel.
[Even Charlie Rangel won't vote for his own draft bill.]
The topic of "de-funding" is worse than a topic leading to a discussion of shared sacrifice when it comes to war. "De-funding" would be sold as leaving troops on the battlefield naked and defenseless.
[DUmmiecrats twisting themselves into pretzels not knowing which way to turn. This will be the theme in Congress for the next two years.[
De-funding would also keep them alive at home. I can live with that. But keep pushing for the draft, America's moms will love us for it in '08.
[De-fund or draft? Draft or de-fund? What DO we do other than twist ourselves helplessly into pretzels?]
and abandoning them on the battlefield won't?....because... that is exactly how it will be sold to the American people.....just remember Kerry's 87 billion dollar vote comments.
[John Kerry voted for the 87 billion before he...well, you know the rest.]
Rangel was elected with 94 percent of the vote. That's right ninety-four percent.
[And the other 6 percent were confused by the butterfly ballot.]
It's funny how all of these DU Primary Warriors never live in the district of the politician they want to take out.
[So FUnnie that I am wiping back the tears from the bellylaugh.]
Counterrevolutionary elements must be purged for the good of the people! All hail the glorious people's revolution!
[The DUmmiecrats Disunited,
Will always be Defeated!]
Let me know if you want on the DUmmie FUnnies PING List.
PING!
In before the Ping! :)
I'm in!
There's a draft in the room! But I'm in!
TT with a bulliett.
top 10
There is a lot of truthiness in that strateegery!
If they're pre-cooked, why do they need to be in the oven for three hours?
Just redeploy him, like you did Murtha.
How big is your oven and how big are the turkeys?
Is this a moment of lucidity in the Bat Cave of DU?
Rangel has really jumped the shark with this one! Sheesh! Hope it shoots all of them in the foot in '08!
Sorry, he has a deferment.
Nah it's more like Animal Farm IMHO.
**Remember when Congressman Charles Rangel introduced a proposal in 2003 to re-instate the draft?**
YES! And I sure did have a hard time convincing people that it was a DEMOCRAT who proposed the stupid bill.
Oops! I think they aren't pre-cooked. Just specially prepared. Anyway the instructions say to cook at 400 degrees for 3 hours. I have already cooked them individually before with incredible results but now I need to cook them together. How much ADDITIONAL time do I need if any?
Please attribute Scrappleface where appropriate.
**It puts the pro-war idiots on the spot and makes people think.**
Makes people think what? That Democrats want everyone to go to Iraq? You're right, it will make them think that.
Small to normal sized oven. Turkeys about 7 pounds each. Remember these are those specially prepared turkey breasts. I find the Publix young turkey breasts are the BEST. You get all white meat with a minimal amount of bones. EASY to cut. Okay, I understand Thanksgiving traditionalists might object but I like ease and comfort when preparing turkey.
Myth If one turkey takes 3 hours to cook, two turkeys take 6 hours.
Fact Cooking two turkeys of about the same weight does not double the roasting time. In fact, cooking two takes no longer than if there were only one bird in the oven.
Microwaves are affected, conventional ovens aren't.
Are we talking turkey breasts or entire turkeys?
If you have two turkey breasts, they will probably fit in one roaster, and you can cook (actually, re-cook) both for the time recommended for one (though three hours still seems EXCESSIVE, way way excessive, for a reheat).
If it's two separate whole turkeys, I congratulate you one the hugeness of your oven. You may have to swap the turkeys' positions in the oven occasionally. Go the thermometer route to determine doneness. I believe that's 165 degrees in the middle of the thigh. Maybe a little less since it's already cooked.
Howdy!
You might be right. Lucidity can only thrive where there is sanity to begin with! :D
As long as you allow plenty of circulation around the birds the cooking time should be the same as for one bird. Get an instant-read thermometer and stick it in the thickest part when you think it is done. The thermometer should read at least 165 degrees. Any more only dries it out.
HG, our FRiend PJ has a cooking question.
So you're saying keep the cooking time the same? Okay, will do. BTW, I HIGHLY recommend those specially prepared young turkey breasts. I smother them in margerine and cover them with adobe seasoning. Then you just pop them into an oven and lightly place aluminum foil on top. The result is an incredibly JUICY turkey of all white meat. Can't be beat.
Goldfinch-- my guest list went from 11 to 18 yesterday - got to find some extra food :-)
Shouldn't be a problem at all. Use the time given on the package, and make sure to preheat the oven.
Oh, but that's the plan, mon ami! The Perfect ROVIAN Plan!
We let you Dems gain the narrowest of margins in the House. This puts your longest-lasting Dem dinosaurs, from the bluest of districts, in charge of committees and thus on public display. The increased media attention EXPOSES their nuttiness and sheer moonbattery, setting up a strong voter backlash AGAINST Dems, across the board, in '08. WE get swept in on a "return-to-sanity" wave. House, Senate, White House, we run the table. All this is worth two brief years of Dem control in the House. And meanwhile, we get all this great DUFU material as a bonus!
(Actually, to be honest, the Senate thing got away from us a little bit, and the Dems got one or two seats they weren't supposed to get. Hey, macaca happens!)
They'll continue to cook on the counter until the breast meat reaches an internal temp of about 160. Don't go by the times on the package. Internal temp is a much safer way to do it.
L
Not 100% sure on the time. Usually I cook about 5 pounds of turkey breasts for 2 hours as per instructions. I just thought 7 pounds would add an hour. Will do for both whatever the instructions say to do for one. Both turkey breasts will be of almost the same weight.
After Thanksgiving the prices on those turkey breasts drop a lot so you might want to check them out for yourselves then. They are incredibly juicy the way I like. All white meat.
Regards, Ivan
Oh, okay, I see. They're not pre-cooked, probably just pre-seasoned or injected or something.
They do not need additional time. If anything, at 400 degrees they may need less time. Watch for wisps of black snoke around the edges of your oven door. :D
Well, you've got a whole House full of committee chairperson idiots now.
Say, does Sheila Jackson-Lee get to chair the committee on sending men back to Mars?
Okay got it.
It is quite accurate that he put it in quotes. We know the whole "support the troops" mantra is nothing but lip service from the Democrats.
You just put a smile on the face of one ben burch.
Yeah, the truth is tough to argue with. ;)
Turkeys and dims on the same thread....figures
L
I would think you'd end up with a very tough bird, using that stuff...
My wife has a tendency to overcook meat which I am trying to get her to unlearn. She doesn't quite understand the concept that you take a steak out of an oven when it is just slightly underdone because it still continues to cook internally. Also the idea that there should be a bit of red or pink in the meat is revolting to her. As a result, when we cook steaks, there are two widely varying times for removing the meat. Typically her's stays in the oven about 20 minutes longer than mine.
That's a new one on me...
Adobo seasoning. Sorry. Good stuff.
Sorry I missed the URL part from an earlier post!

Democrat Plan Summarized in One Word: Draft
by Scott Ott
(2006-11-20) Rep. Charles Rangel, D-NY, yesterday unveiled the Democrat plan for boosting the minimum wage, providing free healthcare to millions more Americans, increasing college attendance, reducing greenhouse gas emissions and preventing future U.S. wars of aggression.
Our plan is so simple and elegant that it can be stated in one word draft, said Rep. Rangel. By implementing a military draft, well provide a living wage and free healthcare to our new involuntary soldiers and their families, plus well give them college money after their term of service.
The New York Democrat, who has proposed a draft several times before, said taking many of the 18-to-26 year-olds off the nations highways will decrease the number of automobile fatalities and drastically reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
The most crucial element of the Draft America Plan, he said, is creation of a huge military force comprised of less-motivated troops in case the president must decide whether to go to war with North Korea or Iran, or to expand the global war on terror in other lands.
Right now, its the skill and passion of our all-volunteer force that gives George Bush the arrogance to challenge our enemies on their soil, Rep. Rangel said. With a military full of reluctant conscripts, Bush wont be so cocky. Well be safer because, as we all know, when American troops stay home fewer terrorists are created.
Use a Reynolds cooking bag to lock in the steam from the juices and they should cook up in about the same time. Use a meat thermometer and be sure to hit 180*. If you turn the oven down to warm at around 170* and let them "rest" the temperature will climb to 180*. The cooking bags are great!
Nah, I vote for scaring them off. GO, CHARLIE, GO!
And what does Charlie Rangel care if he scares off voters? You're talking about swing voters in the middle who could go either way. But that's not his district. Charlie Rangel's got a lifetime seat in the bluest of blue districts.
Goodtime Charlie's got the blues. He could keep go getting re-elected if he were the last Democrat in America.
Which he may be.
I hope you mean "Adobo" and not adobe (as that would not be good for your smile!)
Another mistake people make is to start carving the turkey while it's still hot. All the juice runs right out, and then it doesn't matter what recipe you used or how correctly you cooked it, it's dry enough to choke ya...
