Detroit, MI Republican Presidential Candidate Duncan Hunter gave a tangible demonstration of his support for U.S. manufacturers in a campaign stop in Detroit today. On a mid-morning visit to Suburban Ford in Sterling Heights, MI., Hunter made good on his Buy American platform. He bought American by driving off with a brand new Ford F-150 pick-up truck. Some may call this a cheap political stunt, quipped Hunter, but my wife will call this an expensive gesture.
Hunter said he traveled to Michigan to make it clear that he will follow through on his commitment to American businesses. As President, Hunter said he will restore the strength of this countrys manufacturing base.
Hunter has contended, in his campaign swings, that good high-paying manufacturing jobs are being lost to China and other countries. Our manufacturers are forced to compete against foreign competitors that benefit unfairly from currency manipulation, and from bad trade deals.
Hunter added, One of the duties of the American President is to make good trade deals. We have a bad [trade] deal and, as President, I will rectify it.
That was a good one!
He lost my vote. I hate fords!
shoulda got a suburban...
I own Fords, only.
Get some gold rims and tinted windows and you too can be a gang banger. ;o)
So???
How much of that F-150 was made in Canada?
I love my '99 Ford Expedition...still going strong at 133k miles...hauls furniture when I need it...hauls up to 7 people when I need it...can't do that with a Camry or Prius.
A significant amount of it was made in Mexico...
But a Ford? I'd rather push my Nissan than drive a Ford!
I question the judgment of anyone who would buy a Ford product. At least he didn't buy a Ford car. Those are worse with the (possible) exception of the Mustang.
I would not expect you to care, you are a Romney guy. I don't think he knows how to drive a truck. ;o)
He could have bought a Toyota Tundra, made in the U.S.
Fords SUVs and PUs are the best.
Gore just traded his Lexus SUV in for a hybrid. After all this yammering for years, he just now gets a hybrid?
Pretty good trucks too. But not as good as the Fords.
An F-250 4x4 V-10 would get his wife to say more words. Until she climbs in.
What are the options? Buy a chevy? LOL! JUNK! There's a reason that the f-150 has been the biggest selling vehicle in the world every single year for over 30 years.
Buying a dodge doesn't qualify as an american vehicle, thery are owned by a german company.
I want that one
Handsome, conservative and a good sense of humour! Go Hunter!
"I question the judgment of anyone who would buy a Ford product. At least he didn't buy a Ford car."
My fiancee has had a Focus hatchback for the last 4 years, only problem has been with the CD player which ford replaced 3x, including once out of warranty!
Not a problem with the vehicle. It runs great, is fun to drive, and gets good milage.
Enough with the small stuff...buy a KENWORTH!
Keepin' up with Fred.
I bought my wife the focus wagon a few years back. SHe loves it. Cheap sound system though
The independent truckers are finding out who is on their side. It's Hunter.
Not that Duncan has much of a chance, but he is DEFINITELY my favorite Presidential candidate. Fighting the good fight
What!
Not a word about unions.
I wonder why?
I like Hunter too. Very plain-spoken and sincere. He doesn't talk down to you like other politicians do.
He gained my vote, I am partial to Ford Mini Vans.
What's the big deal? It's the same political stunt that all politicians pull. The last one dumb enough to drive a foreign car was Pat Buchanan. I think he had a Mercedes.
I have an '04 F-150 SCab. It is the most fun vehicle I have ever driven.
Hell yes!
na, it's just that as soon as you get a truck... everybody wants you to help them move!!! 8^)
now THAT... is what i call a truck!!!
I know. Now I just lend mine.
Preach it brothers!
Good point; however there is not a good reason why China should get MFN status given that they are run by despots.
That is one cool Kenworth mini van! LOL!
I thought that Hunter was down on Ford because of Ford's relationship with the homos.
then you're a better man than i am sir...
Yeah, and I just finished making three trips with my '03 F-150 4x4 ext Cab to move my cousin into a new apartment. I loved every minute of it! I've also got an E-450 motor and chasis under my Winnie Aspect Moho ... the v-10 is the smoothest ride I've ever experience with a motorhome, even in the NC mountains. I've driven GM and Ford products for decades. As the Ford quality actually came up I've become all Ford products, except in lawnmowers.

(Just kidding. I, too, drive a Ford F-150.)
I have one close to it. My tires weigh about 200 pounds each. A good ride. You can see very far downrange because your ass is as high as the roof of little cars. It makes people pay attention to what they are doing.
Where did you hear that?

I'll race you to Vegas on the I-15 in the early morning. We have to dodge loaded trucks doing 85-90 across that desert.
At FR
Now that is a line of ignorant bull if I ever heard it, or totally naive at least in Michigan where he bought this truck in an admitted political stunt. He has no clue as to what is going on here in this single-state recession and a prime example of why I'd never trust a legislator in the WH. Who is the staffer who has to drive the thing back to CA?
There is a moving van shortage out of Michigan. We're held hostage by blue-state voters, namely the union members who want nothing but protectionism and have no understanding of trade or competition. It is getting bluer by the day as those that can find their way out of here, have. They tend to be those that are more driven, so that every day that goes by we lose hundreds of the right-of-center.
There are automotive plants closed galore - and more to come for many reasons and a lot of them deserved. What Hunter ignorantly miscued on was the inference of losing "high-paying" auto manufacturing jobs to China, when we are actually losing them to other states!!!!
There are billions of dollars being spent in new domestic auto plants as I type. I know only one thing for sure and that is this state is hostile to business.
Check this out: http://www.nrtw.org/rtws.htm
This is a forced-unionism state and until that changes we'll continue in an economic quagmire. That's what Hunter should have addressed but I understand that he would get mugged by the union thugs before he got to the airport. He'd would have been taking on the socialist Granholm juggernaut, but that would have been welcome.
Note that the auto plants being built are pretty much only in the 'right to work states,' that's real problem but the hush-hush MSM always spins it off on false pretenses.
And finally as my rant is nearly over, it is said there are 5 jobs lost overall for every manufacturing job lost, at least here. That is the real pain. The suppliers, advertisers, marketing, white-collar mgt., engineers, small businesses, etc. that support the industry have been clobbered.
And the final bone-headed aspect of this is that he is grandstanding a 'union made' product in a blue state (at least in the production phase) that is contradictory and largely the reason for the demise in the first place as the Big Three simply cannot afford the legacy costs. Both my private and business vehicles are Ford, and am happy with them. Both a pity and cruel irony that so many of the vehicles in Michigan are imported from other states.
