Senate Deciding Whether to Kill Humans; Waste Taxpayer Dollars Contact: Phil Magnan, Director, Biblical Family Advocates, 011-36-1-246-2587, phil@bfamilyadvocates.com

BUDAPEST, Hungary, Apr. 9 /Christian Newswire/ -- According to a recent article written by Steven Ertelt of Lifenews.com, Senate Will Debate Embryonic Stem Cell Research Funding April 10, the Senate has "scheduled a debate and vote on a bill that would force taxpayers to fund embryonic stem cell research." The article continued by saying, "The main bill, S. 5, is legislation that would mandate federal funding of embryonic stem cell research that requires the destruction of days-old unborn children for their stem cells."

Phil Magnan, Director of Biblical Family Advocates greatly disagrees with the funding of ESCR, embryonic stem cell research in saying, "It makes absolutely no sense that the Senate would seek to fund research that is unproven, extremely costly and kills children who should be saved from dismemberment. Why should our tax dollars be used to kill others to find cures that are already found in adult stem cells and cord blood stem cells? There are over 70 cures using these ethical use stem cells so why do we waste tax dollars in the billions of dollars to fund something that even the proponents of embryonic stem cell research admit may take even decades to find life saving cures?"

Biblical Family Advocates, BFA, strongly encourages Americans to contact their Senators immediately and denounce this outrageous attack on human life and its incredible waste of tax payer dollars. As Mr. Magnan has stated in a California State Senate hearing in September of 2004 regarding the funding of ESCR, that he himself would refuse any medical treatment derived from embryonic stem cells as it would be highly unethical to benefit from killing others. It is the hope of BFA that all Americans would take this principled stand publicly which could very well stop this horrific pursuit of killing the unborn to heal our selves.

Please reach your senator at 202-224-3121 or you can find specific contact information by going to www.senate.gov as they need to hear from those Americans who do not want killing for cures.

A team of Korean researchers claimed Thursday they had performed a miracle by enabling a patient, who could not even stand up for the last 19 years, to walk with stem cell therapy.

HONOLULU — Legendary Hawaiian crooner Don Ho says he could barely walk, let alone sing, and would have been a "goner" without an experimental stem cell procedure on his ailing heart earlier this month in Thailand.

Three years ago Elisabeth Bryant believed she would be blind for the rest of her life. "I couldn't see anything," she says. Now, although her vision is not perfect, she can see well enough to read, play computer games and check emails. Bryant has retinitis pigmentosa, an eye disease that has blinded four generations of her family. What has saved the sight in one of her eyes is a transplant of a sheet of retinal cells.

There is a catch, of course. The sheets of retinal cells used by the team are harvested from aborted fetuses, which some people find objectionable

What's missing from all of these accounts of cures is whether the cures were from adult stem cells or fetal stem cells.

To date the effect of embryonic stem cell treatment has been to cause cancer and horrendous growths such as bone in the brain, hair in the brain, etc. these experiments were carried out in China.

You offered: "There is a catch, of course. The sheets of retinal cells used by the team are harvested from aborted fetuses, which some people find objectionable."

Right this week there are research programs occurring at US college connected bio-research institutions in Oklahoma, North Carolina, Louisiana, California, Massachusetts, Wisconsin, etc. designed to follow methodologies of cloning a specific histocompatible clone for a patient, a clone from which tissues will be removed, the clone discarded. Then a transplant treatment is done to cure a malady of the clone's 'parent'.

You may ask, is the 'embryo age' where these programs are aimed? NO! These are planned for embryo-aged clones to be implanted but not allowed to live to birth age, thus technically fulfilling the 'therapeutic cloning' definition yet allowing more differentiated or organ specific tissues to be 'harvested' for treatments. In facilities in Mass., Ca., and overseas (Japan, for instance) artificial wombs are being developed to implant these clone embryos for life support to a more useful gestational age for harvesting.

This is already a very serious slippery slope we've plunged down ... the Japanese research has been able to keep a goat fetus alive in an artificial womb for seventeen weeks! And that was several years ago when I read about that one while doing research.

"Science Daily — Researchers in America have discovered that vaccinating mice with embryonic stem cells prevented lung cancer in those animals that had had cancer cells transplanted into them after the vaccination or that had been exposed to cancer-causing chemicals."

In a paper to published in the January 2006 issue of the Journal of Molecular and Cellular Cardiology, a team led by UW-Madison stem cell researcher and heart specialist Timothy J. Kamp reports that all-purpose embryonic stem cells, transplanted into mouse hearts damaged by experimentally induced heart attacks, shift gears and morph into functional forms of the major types of cells that compose the healthy heart.
One intriguing result of the new study is that the implanted cells did not result in tumor formation, one of the primary safety concerns for stem cell therapy.

Science Daily — Irvine, Calif., May 10, 2005 -- A treatment derived from human embryonic stem cells improves mobility in rats with spinal cord injuries, providing the first physical evidence that the therapeutic use of these cells can help restore motor skills lost from acute spinal cord tissue damage.

http://www1.umn.edu/umnnews/Feature_Stories/U_researchers_use_human_embryonic_stem_cells_to_kill_cancer_cells_in_the_lab.html

Researchers generated "natural killer" cells from the human embryonic stem cells. As part of the immune system, natural killer cells normally are present in the bloodstream and play a role in defending the body against infection and against some cancers. The natural killer cells produced by the researchers were found capable of destroying certain human cancer cells in vitro (in the test tube).

If you read the article the treatment for Mr. Ho “involves multiplying stem cells taken from his blood and injecting them into his heart in hopes of strengthening it.”
As usual the title of these kinds of articles almost never mention that it was adult stem cells that were responsible for the cure.
