Pearson is the plaintiff in a frivolous $65 million dollar lawsuit against Ji Nam Chung, Soo Chung, and Ki Chung, owners of Custom Cleaners in suburban Washington DC. The suit was brought by Pearson over a pair of his pants that apparently went missing when he sent them for cleaning. Pearson began his assault by asking the Chungs for $1,000.00 - the full price of the suit. The Chungs contended a week later that the pants had been found. They refused to pay, at which point Pearson brought forth his lawsuit.
The Chung's attorney, Chris Manning said that they made three settlement offers to Pearson - first $3,000.00, then $4,600.00, and finally $12,000.00, all of which were rejected.
Pearson contends that two signs in the Chung's business, "Satisfaction Guaranteed" and "Same Day Service", amount to fraud because of his dissatisfaction over his pants. As a consequence of this alleged "fraud", Pearson calculates that -according to DC consumer protection laws- at $1,500.00 per violation per day, the Chungs had 12 separate violations over 1,200 days times three people for 64.8 million dollars. Additionally, Pearson decided that since he no longer wanted to patronize his neighborhood dry cleaners, it was worth another $15,000.00, which he contends would be the cost to rent a car every weekend for 10 years to take his suits to another dry cleaners.

The lawyer is new. Perhaps the judge is wisely allowing the jerk to make an @ss of himself for all-time.

I wouldn’t recommend linking to this blog. From his “terms of use” page —
“Websites linking War of Wits content on their own servers will be hunted down,...”
I saw a segment about this on FOX this morning and I guess the Chung's are thinking about closing up and moving back to Korea........
This Pearson guy is just plain disgusting........
I spoke to this guy before. He encourages links, but gets ticked when people cut & paste.
Thanks
DISGUSTING!!
“Well I can’t call Mr. Pearson a racist because he’s black and the plaintiffs are Asian.’
So the black rioters who singled out and destroyed Korean stores in South Central LA weren’t being racist? You may be right. When the Gestapo singled out and murdered Jews, it wasn’t called racism, either. How about ethnic cleansing? Hate crime? Maybe we need a new euphemism for destroying people from a position of power. How about Jim Crow?
That man should be removed as a judge.
I hope this is a VERY rare instance. If this is the typical thought process for a judge it will not be very long before being a judge will be about as desirable as being a new hire for the Border Patrol.
That might very well happen...
His biography is gone from that website...Here is what apparently WAS posted there, from a previous thread:
http://oah.dc.gov/oah/cwp/view,A,3,Q,604474.aspBiography
Roy L. Pearson, Jr.
Administrative Law Judge
Roy L. Pearson, Jr. began serving as an Administrative Law Judge for the District of Columbia Office of Administrative Hearings on May 2, 2005. Before his appointment he served for two years as a contract hearing examiner for the DC Office of Police Complaints.
Judge Pearson was an attorney with the Neighborhood Legal Services Program (NLSP) from July 1978 through July 2002; the last 13 years as the Assistant Director for Legal Operations. In the latter capacity Judge Pearson was responsible for training and supervising a legal and support staff of 20-60 persons in neighborhood offices throughout the District of Columbia. NLSP provides civil legal assistance to indigent residents of the District of Columbia. During his tenure with NLSP Judge Pearson obtained jury verdicts in excess of $1 million dollars in both the DC Superior Court and the US District Court for the District of Columbia. His landmark Superior Court verdict of $15.9 million for nine clients was settled, after partial reversal and remand, on confidential terms.
Judge Pearson has been active in the Washington, DC community for decades and has served as counsel or board member for such organizations as the Columbia Heights Youth Club, the Fort Lincoln Civic Association, Inc., Black Seeds, Inc., the Washington Council of Lawyers, and the DC chapter of the National Council of Black Lawyers.
Judge Pearson earned his undergraduate degree from Lake Forest College. He earned his JD from Northwestern University School of Law. After graduation, he was first a graduate teaching fellow, and then assistant director, of a clinical program at the Georgetown University School of Law. The clinical program provided legal research, policy analysis and drafting assistance to committees of the Council of the District of Columbia, to the Mayor, and to various District of Columbia agencies. Judge Pearson has been a member of the District of Columbia Bar since 1978, and of the US Supreme Court Bar since 1985.
That one has always bugged me. There should have been a truckload of very high profile cases regarding this issue, but there was nothing but buckets of iceing dumped over the situation.
Pearson is only trying to overcome his “cheap suit” steriotype. Give insanity a chance!
Losing his job is not enough. He belongs in prison.
So do I ...
LOL!
Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm, remind me again how many future “lawyers and judges” the universities will be graduating over the next month. Question....when is a good thing too much of a good thing ???
...the Korean ambassador felt it necessary to apologize on behalf of ethnic Koreans worldwide for Virginia Tech, surely, an apologize from at least the foreign minister is due for the Chung familys violation of all that is good and holy.Pearsonsweet guy that he iseven went as far as to enlist neighbors and fellow customers in an effort to turn the case into a class action suit, but was thankfully denied. The fact that neighbors and customers apparently agreed to join this travesty, however, is probably more damning than anything else.
The Family Chung is not very happy with the situation, to say the least:
Its not humorous, not funny and nobody would have thought that something like this would have happened, Soo Chung told ABC News through an interpreter.
Her husband agreed.
Its affecting us first of all financially, because of all the lawyers fees, Jin Chung said. For two years, weve been paying lawyer fees. Weve gotten bad credit as well, and secondly, its been difficult mentally and physically because of the level of stress.
Later, Soo Chung broke down in tears.
I would have never thought it would have dragged on this long, she told ABC News. I dont want to live here anymore. Its been so difficult. I just want to go home, go back to Korea.
Can you really blame her?
Waaaaayyy too much...
That’s because it resonates so loudly with the average person. This story exemplifies everything wrong with this country today. Thanks for the extra info, RonDog
Welcome!Jin Nam and Soo Chung thank you very much for your interest in their case. They are deeply touched by your kindness and support.
In response to the numerous calls and e-mails from people offering assistance, this fund has been created to help with their defense costs...
...The funds contributed through this website will be administered on behalf of the Chungs by a regional Washington D.C. certified public accounting firm...

I would think it more appropriate to take the issue to small claims court, allow countersuit, but receive the final jurisdiction of the presiding judge in the small claims court. Even if the Judge refuses to submit to that judgment, the facts of that refusal could then be used as factual evidence before a higher court to not only dismiss the case but provide grounds for judge Pearson to be liable for causing undue harm to the Dry Cleaners. If found to be frivolous, the judge might also be exposed to other ethical charges mandating his removal from office and possible disbarment.
I’m not a lawyer, but I did stay near a holiday Inn Jr last night....
:o)
-good grief. they offered him several times what the suit was worth and he didn’t take it? JERK
Small claims would have been ENTIRELY appropriate in this case.
How about a straightjacket??
It’s strange how hard it is to find a picture of the judge.
This is one of the most blatant examples of judicial misconduct I have heard of in quite some time.
I think I will try and send the money to the directly. How do we know the accountant firm will not scam them?
As an American I am ashamed.
O’Reilly and Hannity must know about this by now no?
