There are legitimate arguments on both sides of the immigration debate, but most reasonable people on both sides acknowledge that most immigrants are hard-working, decent people who (understandably) came to the US for a chance at a better life.
Not the National Organization for Women.
In a recent statement I would've more expected from the Ku Klux Klan than from NOW, NOW president Kim Gandy (pictured) describes immigrant men as men who "hit their [wives] frequently," threaten to put their wives and children on the street if they "ask them to buy groceries or clothes for the kids" and make their wives "live in perpetual fear."
According to Gandy, these immigrant women had better not get pregnant and/or lose their jobs, because their immigrant husbands will "beat" them for it.
Gandy's comments are a despicable slap at the millions of immigrant men and fathers who work long hours at demanding jobs to provide for their wives and children. Exactly as both of my grandfathers did.

NOW has never liked men. Why is anyone surprised? They’ve searched their topsy-turvy collection of socialist tripe disguised as a guiding philosophy, and their sexual attraction trumped their desire to destroy the “patriarchy.” No news there, lol.

I am reasonable and I don’t agree. At least not when talking about illegals. They are ALL criminals by the fact they broke our immigration laws. A rather large minority of them are involved in criminal activity (gangs, drugs, ...). Another large percentage work under the table so they are not paying taxes (another crime).
Does that mean they are all bad? NO, but as a nation do we want to continue to allow the flood of the undesirables?
Build the fence, fine the crap out of businesses that hire illegals. Let businesses advertise for workers in Mexico if they truly need them and then they should be allowed to assist in getting work visas/permits for LEGAL workers that want to come here. And deport all that are still here illegally by 1 Jan 2009.
I would not have as big a problem with illegals going to schools and hospitals on the welfare dime if they were paying taxes, oh.....and legal.
That is my plan. It is not 1000 pages long. Any thoughts on it?

I was wondering about what this meant, and you hit the nail on the head. Far more of a statement about the NAG’s sexism than their xenophobia.
This is an outrage!!! I have always been against womens suffrage because they have suffered enough. But let the women show up at the polls and vote out this unfair womens suffrage once and for all.

It could have the effect of breaking the spell some of the more moderate Democrat women have been under, though. Why they haven’t condemned the treatment of women under Islam has always been a source of wonder for me. Desire to destroy the system trumps women with Islam, but not with illegal immigrants. It’s an interesting parlor game, to try and decode it all.
That’s probably how she describes the average American male, as well. But, “it’s all for the children” as Hillary would say...

I thought NOW has made it part of their credo that they have nothing against the “peace loving religion of Islam”.
Bubba Jeff hated Christians though, no matter what he used for a prop when the chips were down. So do Muslims, for that matter, so maybe there's some sort of consistent hierarchy of hate within NOW after all. Hating Christianity trumps hating the system, which trumps hating men, and all else falls below hating men, all under the guise of being pro-woman. I think that holds across all the seeming inconsistencies.

Not all, or necessarily a majority of immigrant men, but wife-beating is customary in a lot of the cultures that the 1965 Immigration Act has brought to our shores.
I heard a Vietnamese Community liason speak some 20 years ago that the "boat people" had to be told that wife-beating was a crime in this country. Add to that the attitude toward women originating from those in the Middle East, and machismo from South of the border, and yes, this is a valid concern.
What irks me about this coming from NOW, is that for years they haven't given American men the credit they deserve for being the world's best husbands.

I have dated two women that had previously been in relationships with Immigrant Hispanics. They had both been beaten severly on several occasions. One still lives in fear of her ex.

However, it is understood that some men have beaten women. Divorces were very rare in Mexico 40 years ago, but now they occur even in rural areas of Mexico.

Most Muslims and a very large number of Hispanic men do beat their wives. I know this from my Paramedic days in Houston.
The illegals coming to this country since the 90's are mainly hispanic, mainly mexican. 99% of these law breakers are people with no education, no manners, no culture, very dishonest and pron to violence; they are wife beaters in general, but not all do it.
Hispanic immigrants, and hispanic illegals are two different groups. Many hispanic immigrants are against illegal immigration.

Yes, most were Mexican, however, we were getting an increasing number of Central Americans but their Culture is very similiar to Mexico’s. Strangely enough, many of the Central Americans hated Mexico for all of the hassles and shakedowns they were getting while traveling back and forth between the U.S. and home through Mexico.
There is that pesky little tip book that mexico published tell the illegals what not to do in public. I think one of them was not to hit your wife/girl friend. Now isn't that true?
