I believe you are correct. I remember several instances early in OIF where the calculated range for Iraqi missiles from launch point to intercept point by Patriot batteries around Kuwait City was over 200 kilometers...

Yes those were the remnants of the Al Samouds that were still in the Iraqi inventory. The Iraqi’s agreed to start destroying them and did, but then withdrew from the agreement. Those were still SRBMs with only about an extra 10-30km on the range depending on warhead.

All the ballistics fired by Iraq during OIF were examined in detail. The smoking gun would have been if any Al Husseins or SCUDs had been fired. That would have been the crucial evidence that Iraq was vastly breaking the rules by still having MRBMs in their inventory.

I served in the Coalition too.

What I disagree with is people posting images of SRBMs and claiming that they are some sort of smoking gun evidence. If it had been an Al Hussein then it would be that smoking gun evidence.

The original poster claimed that those types of missile as shown were not found in Iraq and had gone missing. Several of these Ababil and Al-Samouds SRBMs were found and destroyed as highlighted by the ISG.

The administration did a lousy job in informing the public as to things that where found, things that where shipped prior to and just after the invasion.
And surely this administration buckled when challenged by the L/MSM. The POTUS was to apologetic. His wording made it sound as if nothing really was found. Hence this crap goes on and on.

as many people have pointed out the Bush Admin will not say where the WMD’s are located. They know full well they were removed prior to the invasion. it’s a political thing you wouldn’t understand.

Thank you, now you can get back to school and learn to recognize long range missiles from short range. Could be great you finally understand the difference.

I did in the army.

As for intelligence : The American experts observed a parade of the Baath Party in January 2002 which showed unconventional weapons which disappeared since the beginning of the war, in March 2003, and which are still untraceable. (Richard Miniter, 22 myths that undermine the War one Terror, Regnery, 2005, p. 104)

Sorry my typo. That should have read Short range ballistic missile (SRBM)

Iraq was allowed to have SRBMs and battlefield rockets. None of those SRBMs could threaten for example Israel. The SRBMs were allowed under the resolution agreed by such members of the U.N. as the U.S.

What you see on that launcher is an SRBM.

In direct comparison the Iraqi SRBMs are about the size of the original Russian SCUD As.

Image of SCUD A

The Iranians have similar SRBMs such as this Zelzal

Image of SRBM Zelzal

The Iraqi missile in the video is an SRBM. It is NOT a long-range missile in anyway shape or form.

In direct comparison another Iraqi SRBM was the Al Samoud 2. This had a small increase in range, but was still an SRBM.

Image of Iraqi Al Samoud SRBM

What you fail to realise is that if the missile in the video was something which could reach a range of 600km plus then it would be such as an extended range SCUD.

These are images of Iraqi Al Hussein's (Extended range Scuds) capable of hitting Israel from Iraqi territory. Iraq lauched these against Coalition forces during Desert Storm and also against Israel.

Image of Iraqi Al Husseins

Now if those Al Husseins or any Iraq SCUD had been seen in the parade then you could bump your gums all day long. The fact is that video shows nothing more than an SRBM incapable of achieving ranges above 200kms.

What you are basing your theory on is this very dubious quote

As for intelligence : The American experts observed a parade of the Baath Party in January 2002 which showed unconventional weapons which disappeared since the beginning of the war, in March 2003, and which are still untraceable. (Richard Miniter, 22 myths that undermine the War one Terror, Regnery, 2005, p. 104

You are wholly relying on this quote as fact. The missile in that parade is an SRBM. The Coalition as they advanced into Iraq discovered several of the Iraqi SRBMs such as Ababils and Samouds. This is highlighted in the ISG report and detailed by those units which discovered them.

If your recognition skills were uptodate then you would realise that it is an SRBM.

I challenge you to send it to any military Internet forum and see the replies that you get. This is very basic recogniton skills. In no way shape or form is that image you posted of a long range missile as you suggest.

Question for you. You believe that this is a long-range missile. If so then why didn't Colin Powell present the video evidence of this 'long-range missile' on parade to the U.N.?

Over to you!

The missile motors were from SA-2 Guidelines. Iraq used them in their SRBMs such as the Samoud. The engines were tagged with U.N. inspection labels.

The longest range missiles that the Iraqi’s used were their Al Samoud 2s. These were capable of going about 30km more than the 150km allowed. All missile debris was examined - None of the missiles were found to be a ‘smoking-gun’ SCUD and no SCUD MAZ launchers were found in Iraq. The Iraqi’s even launched Silkworm and Seersucker anti-ship missles against targets in Kuwait.

I never could understand how Saddam killed his own people and fought two wars without WMD, and for people who think he destroyed them, that’s just plain gullible.
