I'm pleased to report that the FredHead Express team made it safely back in Texas.
The response in Iowa was really great. More often than not, our table had people in front of it giving us encouragement and begging for Fred stuff. A bunch of people from the rival campaigns dropped by to (quietly) tell us they'd be backing Fred once he's in. Some whispered that they'd voted for Fred in the poll. A McCain supporter told us the McCain folks sent out an "alert" once they found out we were there. We all got a kick out of that one.
The media kept coming around all day. As you probably know, we received a lot of great national and local media coverage including the Washington Post, the New York Times blog, the Dallas Morning News, the St. Petersburg Times, the Ames Tribune, the Sioux City Journal, the Gazette Online, WFAA and the Waterloo Cedar Falls Courier.
The people absolutely loved our little "button factory." We handed out something in the vicinity of 400+ buttons made to order on-site. We couldn't keep them in stock! We also handed out about that many 1" prefab buttons and approx. 1,500 bumper stickers.
We put out a sign-up sheet and got four pages full of names and email addresses. I'm not sure exactly how many names we got, but I'm guessing we got 70+ names and addresses of folks who are ready to get involved in the Iowa FredHeads.
All in all, it was a great day. We all would've loved to have handed Fred a huge showing in the poll, but that probably wasn't in the cards. A lot of people told us it would be nigh impossible to get many votes for him without him being there. Iowans are apparently touchy about that. As it was, we bested Giuliani and McCain, and we put the best showing of any (non) candidate who wasn't physically present in Iowa. I think that's something to be proud of.
And yes, the Ron Paul guys did camp out around our table. They brought 4x8's along and hung out in our area most of the afternoon.
As near as I can tell, everyone had a great time. Even though the four of us rolled into Iowa not really knowing each other and without any certainty that we'd even be allowed to participate in the event, we overcame all the hurdles and worked together like old friends. Jeff Mitchell (DraftFredThompson.com) was the hero of the day on a number of different occasions and we all owe him a big debt of gratitude. Dan Garcia and Cody Dumas busted their butts for Fred all weekend. I'm exhausted and sunburned, and I can't use my voice 100%, but this trip was well worth it, and the FredHeads made it possible. If I live to be 100 years old, I'll never forget my Saturday at the Iowa Straw Poll. If you contributed to our effort, thank you so much.

WARNING: If you wish to join this ping list please be aware that it is EXTREMELY active.
I was in Ames on Saturday. And I saw the FredHeads. In fact, I gave them some “I’m With Fred” stickers I had made locally.
What does that mean? That they held up sheets of plywood to block visibility or access to the Fred table? Can anybody who was there fill me in?
Thanks for posting this report, it is very encouraging.
Yes! Thanks for this report! Good work, folks!
The Ron Paul guys near the Fred table are real class acts.
Unsurprising behavior, really.

Ah, those Paulistinians are so nice.
Fred will enjoy reading this. Great report, thanks for the ping!
