John Edwards to Require Mandatory Mental Evaluations for ALL
Leibowitz's Canticle ^ | September 3, 2007 | Leibowtiz

Posted on 09/03/2007 10:48:02 AM PDT by Bob Leibowitz

In a speech in Tipton, Iowa yesterday, Senator John Edwards described his health care program

"It requires that everybody be covered. It requires that everybody get preventive care," he told a crowd sitting in lawn chairs in front of the Cedar County Courthouse. "If you are going to be in the system, you can't choose not to go to the doctor for 20 years. You have to go in and be checked and make sure that you are OK.

***

Edwards said his mandatory health care plan would cover preventive, chronic and long-term health care. The plan would include mental health care as well as dental and vision coverage for all Americans. (Emphasis added throughout)

Of course, as a lawyer, Mr. Edwards would know exactly how to write such a law.

Leaders should never ask their followers to do something they’re not willing to do themselves.

Uh-oh. Mr. Edwards, we need to talk privately.

Strictly speaking, you’re reading of Edward’s position is wrong.

Well, could you point me to another news source more explicit about the mandatory mental health and dental evaluations? Mandatory doc visits are bad enough. I don't think we need to spend time on an interpretation which could be due to vague writing on the part of a reporter.

Edwards and others claim that all this forced preventive care to help people live longer is going to save money. He needs to explain how. I practice a lot of prevention myself but am not under any illusions that it is saving me money.

Ultimately, everyone develops a fatal illness. Although there are exceptions, the lion’s share of what people cost the system is incurred in the final years of life. So the longer one takes to get there, the more years one has to contribute to what is often a very large tab at the end. This is the basis for an argument smokers make against all the anti-smoking rhetoric; they point out that a good number of them die prematurely, never collecting their Social Security/Medicare benefits. Therefore, they say, the govt should be grateful to them for giving more than they take and get off their case.

I’m sure Edwards can find a lawsuit in here somewhere.

Now, now. The government, i.e. liberals, know what is best for you. Now, goose step along like a good little comrade.

Edwards certainly reveals his socialist leanings.

In the society people like him envision, everything that is not forbidden is mandatory.

Left unsaid is that the line to the left is for Democrats, and the line to the right is for Republican’s, Conservatives and anyone opposed to mandatory mental screening.

Strictly speaking, this does not necessarily mean mandatory mental evaluations. It could just mean that mental health is covered, while physical health visits are mandated.

If it's covered, it's going to be mandatory.

There's nothing more precious to the liberal than control of the mind. Controlling the body is one thing, but they want our minds.

Can you imagine the level of control they can exert by making up mental illness to be diagnosed that no one can dispute with tests to show otherwise?

They're already making hate a crime and punishing it. What about someone who doesn't agree with liberal politics? They'll need mental treatment for sure.

If that doesn't send a chill down your spine, I don't know what would.

Not likely. Liberals live in a fantasy land, detached from reality.

What a scary though; the mentally ill determining what mental illness is.

And the libs finally get their wish for “re-education camps” they’ll get the ball rolling with something similar to this.

We are not East Germany (yet), so the particular brand of totalitarinism we are inching towards is going to look different during its gestation and infancy.

Of course, once it matures, it will look enough like the 20th century totalitarian regimes to be recognized. Only problem is, its too late by then.

Does anyone ever notice that Liberals always manage to create GUARANTEED INCOME for some people?

The irony is it’s always a guarantee for the “industry” that Libs naturally despise.

They despise “doctors”. They despise “big business”. They despise anything that provides some kind of service.

Yet they turn around and create guaranteed business for the very things they hate.

How much have they enriched Graco and evenFlo with all the stupid baby and child requirements for cars and so on?

Yet they’re also “EEEEVVVIL Big Companies”.

Which is it for the Libs?

We can see they’re very big on welfare, even for whole industries.

And I’m sure he’d redefine mental illness is any person who votes Republican or liberatarian, is a Christian and conservative.
