You are absolutely intent on getting Hillary elected, aren’t you, Pet?

By not supporting your vanity asterisk candidate??? LOLOLOL! When one of you goes to bed, he loses a third of his support! The only place he actually TRIES is in TX, which has a primary after the damn nominee is chosen. You're pimping a candidate that clearly isn't serious and isn't a serious choice. And you're trying to malign a good conservative in the process. What's your real agenda?

"Rudy and Mitt and McCain have no standing to come after Fred’s right flank, but Hunter and Tancredo do."

I'll agree that Tancredo has, but there is no way that I can view Hunter as a more consistent conservative. When it comes to spending, he has less credentials than McCain.

"Funny, FRedbots certainly spend alot of time on the subject...Hunter must be doing something right."

I do not know about others, but my issue with Hunter has nothing to do with any perceived possibility that he may win the nomination. I want to see "big government conservatism" die the death it so richly deserves. For me it is all about redefining conservatism in the Goldwater/Reagan mold. Looking to someone as a standard bearer for conservatism, who is a big spender, keeps us in the hole we created for ourselves. If Hunter was truly a consistent limited government conservative, his being put forward as someone conservatives should rally behind would not bother me. If it was Tancredo, rather than Hunter, who was vying with Fred for support here on FR, I would not criticize his record.

And that’s exactly what Fred told a woman last week. That getting on a plane to D.C. wouldn’t fix her schools, they had to be fixed locally.

Far more consitent. If there is anything about Hunter that sticks out above every other candidate, it is his consitency.

It’s still early, and EVERY TRUE CONSERVATIVE should support Duncan Hunter, or we just might lose our sovereignty some day.

I’m seeing countless folks saying Hunter would make a good VP because he’s so good, or Hunter is the best guy, but his poll numbers are too low, yada, yada.

But gosh, if all the folks used that naysaying “energy” and wrote an editor’s letter, or called a talk show to help Hunter, his poll #’s would increase.

I have read that around 95% of Hunter’s campaign money comes from regular folks, like me. Big biz won’t help him out, because they are doing business with Red China, and don’t want to lose that slave labor, even if the $275 BILLION EACH YEAR trade deficit is making China a superpower.

So it’s up to us regular folks to help Hunter out financially.

When conservatives know about Hunter here’s how they vote:

“Duncan Hunter doubled the totals of the next-closest candidate, garnering 534 of approximately 1,400 votes cast. Fred Thompson came in second with 266 votes, and Paul rounded out the top three with 217 votes.

Here are all the results:
Duncan Hunter: 534
Fred Thompson: 266
Ron Paul: 217
Mike Huckabee: 83
Rudy Giuliani: 78
Mitt Romney: 61
Ray McKinney: 28
John Cox: 10
John McCain: 8
Sam Brownback: 6
Tom Tancredo: 6
Hugh Cort: 3”

http://www.townhall.com/blog

And now for my question of the day: Can you tell me in a few sentences, in your own words, what ISSUES have prompted you to support Fred?

Didn’t you support Hunter at one time? Just curious.

Anyway, Hunter spends on our defense and protecting our troops, and that’s the way it should be.

He will lower taxes when he is president.

And check this out. If this isn’t enough, I have MORE!

“Voted against the Omnibus spending bill in 1990, HR 5835, that included George Herbert Walker Bush’s tax increases after his “read my lips” broken promise. - Congressional Record
..
• “The first of these ``Big 4’’ provisions is in Article IX. It states that decisions by the World Trade Organization ``shall be taken by a majority ... each member of WTO shall have one vote.’’ Folks, this gives Fidel Castro in Cuba the same vote as the United States. It is just like the General Assembly of the United Nations, with one vital difference. There is no Security Council in the WTO to give the U.S. a veto as in the UN.
• “The second of the ``Big 4’’’

Unfortunately, It won't matter what I tell you. You will only use it to promote Hunter or say something derogatory that will take the conversation nowhere.

Suffice it to say, Duncan WILL make an excellent VP, and get the face time he really needs for people to get his message. I am only pointing out the obvious, which seems to escape the DH supporters. And yes, Duncan did very well in Texas. But hasn't done squat anywhere else.

You DH supporters say the polls aren't everything, yet when your guy runs at or near the top, you expound on it as if it was the second coming. And that 'momentum', he garnered in Texas has done zip for him, especially at a forum where he should have stood out in the crowd(Values Voters), and didn't.

The truth is still the truth, no matter how you spin it.

Knocking head against the wall..THUMP, THUMP.

I can’t get one Fred supporter to tell me in their own words why they support him re: ISSUES. I’m not looking for a book, just a few sentences from the heart.

Why not convince me that Fred would make a good VP for Duncan Hunter? :)

And Texas was not the only straw poll where Hunter won. Hunter won in the AZ straw poll, won a statistical tie in SC, and came in 1st here:

Oh, you mean the county coffee klatch votes? Interesting the link you provide shows Fred garnering 30% of the vote without any effort at all. Duncan spent how much? His message helped him where? It was on all the major networks when?

Keep beating your head against a wall, sooner or later you will get tired of the squishy sound.

Fred is taking his message right to the people from his website, and that message, on a variety of issues. Basing his beliefs on federalism vs the system we have now, would mean less federal intrusion, more local control, and the idea, that maybe Washington is not always the answer.

Face it as each one of the seal shows goes by and the candidates get a fish thrown to them, Duncan doesn't stand out. After each of these 'debates' he gets pushed further and further out of the picture.

No, I took an early interest in his candidacy with the intention of supporting him and ignored his critics until I looked deeper into his record on government spending. Yes, he does spend on defense, but that is not my problem with him. He has a record of big spending across the board. In terms of budget busting, the Prescription Drug plan was the worse vote. In terms of defensibility, his going 0 - 19 on the Flake anti port amendments REALLY ticked me off. That put him in the same company as my current Senator and former Congressman Bernie Sanders.

He used to have a solid record on spending, but that is no longer the case. His record has gotten worse as he has joined the the GOP drift under Bush toward big government conservatism while people like Mike Pence and the RSC were trying to reverse this trend. He is a member of the RSC but frequently votes against their fiscally sound budgets. I see him as part of the problem in regards to the GOP embracing big government.

I will concede that he is good on some issues. I am not trying to bash him. My primary concern is the proper role of the federal government and spending is a barometer I use to gage where someone is on that issue. It is on that issue that Duncan falls far short. He would make a good Secretary of Defense, or Homeland Security, I just do not see him as the one to lead the conservative movement back to a commitment to "limited" government.

It shouldn't be too difficult: Duncan's own campaign manager knows he can't win What's your excuse?
