Based on a complaint lodged by Cuba’s foreign minister, Felipe Perez Roque, the United Nations may declare that the United States’ long running embargo of the island nation is illegal.
“The Cuban complaint makes a persuasive case that the US embargo has contributed to human rights abuses in Cuba,” said UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon. “Because of the embargo, the Cuban government has been unable to acquire supplies from America to upgrade their facilities. As a result, political prisoners are being housed in filthy and decrepit buildings, locked up in rusted manacles and beaten with cracked and splintered clubs. So I’d have to say that it looks like the United States has abetted human rights abuses.”
“For nearly fifty years the progress of the Revolution has been retarded by the American refusal to sell us necessary goods,” Roque complained. “Now, finally, the criminal acts of the Yankee imperialists have been recognized by the international community. I hope they will be made to pay the price.”
If the “motion of censure” under consideration by the UN passes the US could be required to pay reparations to the Cuban government.

At issue in our embargo of Cuba is reparations the commies owe to Cubans whose lands, homes, businesses and other property they stole. Will the UN order restitution? When the Berlin Wall fell, landowners from East Germany were compensated for property the commies stole. I don’t recall the UN assisting.
Cuba trades with every other country in the known world — or at least those who will do business with lying cheating Castro, who reneges on most deals with foreign companies.
My favorite example is the Spanish costruction firm that remodeled a once-gorgeous waterfront apartment building in Havana in order to sell condos. After pouring millions into the building, Castro tore up every contract and agreement and grabbed the building for himself. I’ve heard from various businessmen who do business in the Caribbean area that that’s par for the course in Cuba today.
Then there are those unprofitable sugar fields that cover so much of the island. The Soviets underwrote sugar production to bolster the image of brave Cuban comrades laboring with donkey carts to harvest their only crop. “Venceremos Brigades” of misguided college idiots from Berkeley, etc., went down every year to help out the downtrodden Cuban workers kept impoverished by US policies. Truth is, had Castro plowed under most of the stalks and planted veggies and fruits and grains to feed Cuba and trade internationally, Cuba would have had a strong economy, the best in the Caribbean.
Anyway, I wonder whether the UN will censure Castro and force him to pay reparations to Cubans in America whose lands he stole and to Cubans who remained behind whose lives he stole.
I’m definitely no fan of Castro’s Cuba...
I’m just mad that such an ungodly revolution had to happen in the place that grows the finest quality tobacco in the world. :(
But I’ll gladly go without my Cuban tobacco as long as those monsters are in charge, embargo or no.
