Was It Really the Greatest Generation?

Tom Brokaw likes to give credit to what he calls the “Greatest Generation” for the sacrifices and the efforts they gave to survive the depression of the 1930’s and then go on to win the world’s worst war, World War II. All of that is true. It is also true that they stood behind the most magnanimous act any country has ever performed, the Marshall Plan, where, for the first time in history, the victor rescued the losers when the United States helped bring prosperity and democracy to Germany and Japan. Always in the past, losers were looted by the winners.

The problem is that this “Greatest Generation” vowed that when they got home, they would see that their children would never have to suffer the depravations and the humiliations that they had to face in childhood and young adulthood.

They were the greatest generation and we may never see the likes of them again. My parents were of that generation. Duty, family, God, Country, hard work - these were the codes they lived by and it wasn't just my parents. My neighbors were of the same ilk, and watched over us kids.

They did what they thought was right, and felt actions were stronger than words, that their love was demonstrated through their loyalty to their families, churches, work, and community.

I could go on and on about stories of such dedication, but it would take a book.

The problem wasn't with the generation, it was the lack of responsibility taken on by SOME of their children. The media glamorized the flower children and protesters, but this wasn't the majority.

Just watch "The War" and you can realize why they wanted a better place for their kids.

What a great opportunity to criticise Americans.

It just never goes out of style, does it?

Don’t get me started.

OK, never mind.

They cannot be the “GG” if they a) went along with all the communist give-aways commie-lover FDR was pushing, never mind voting for the arrogant tyrannical SOB 4x b) raised the WORST Generation ever, of Dr. Spock selfish ninnies.
