Nope. Great site and pretty informative. I’ve noticed that it’s been down for at least the last six months.

Also try DefensiveCarry.com A lot of the folks from packing.org are over there, but the forums are moderated a lot better.

Packing.org started going downhill when the founder of the site turned it over to someone else about two yrs ago. Most of the state information sights have not been maintained, couple that with their stupid post rating system (which everyone hated) and it was a recipe for disaster. It was better in it’s original format. I wouldn’t be surprised if it is history.

Nope. I am dissappointed it is gone but hardly surprised. In the last couple of years, the site owner kind of let it degrade. I think he must have just gotten bored.

From what I understand, he could have sold it and made some good money on it. Rumor has it he was in law school and had another job.

It’s a shame because it was, at one time, THE place to go for information about CCW. Just a little effort probably would have made him some money and kept it alive.

What a coincidence that you mention it. I was just looking for it this morning. Had not looked at it for quite sometime. Discovered the same thing.

It's now http://www.handgunlaw.us/

Many of the same staffers and moderators, but with a new format and look, and hopefully, a more rekliable server than the old one, which as noted was frequently down at times. .

Even if the website is not active now, you can always look back in time to when it was more useful:

True, but in many cases the state laws in the archives may have been changed since then, and should not be relied upon.

http://www.handgunlaw.us is NOT packing.org and Gary and I would prefer you don’t make that kind of association. We were associated with PDO, until Mark changed the direction of the site to a direction that was intolerable to us. We left PDO as we saw it deteriorate and become so out of date, that it actually put site visitors at risk of legal violations.

I founded http://www.handgunlaw.us in Feb 2006 and browbeat Gary Slider to join me in creating the internets premier handgun law database.

Gary Slider is the research GURU! I’m just the web guy. Our Make Your Map application was originally developed by Jason Schafer. No one else is involved in any part of the ownership, administration or maintenance of http://www.handgunlaw.us.

I beg your pardon. Packing.org was a classy act until the forum mischief dragged it down, and Mark was sufficiently busy with law school as to prevent him from paying more attention to the spiraling problems.

Nevertheless, it was a useful and informative data base that despite its warts set an example for a resource that's very much needed, and I'm glad to see that new ones have sprouted to fill the void, particularly now that the ugly specter of old enemies and new conspiring to see erosion of ourt rights is rising again as well.

You should check out http://www.usacarry.com. It was launched in 2007 after packing.org went offline and have some great maps, info and forums.
