This is not conservatism. Mike Huckabee is a pro-life, pro-family values liberal. He is soft on illegal immigration and he is enthusiastic about passing laws that control the way people live their lives (e.g, laws against smoking, junk food, etc.).
Yes, Huckabee's pro-life, and if he was the best Republican option, I'd hold my nose and vote for him, but he's not the best the Republicans have to offer. He's not the only pro-life candidate, either...
I think Fred Thompson is the most conservative of the viable pro-life candidates. All the others are much more moderate. I'll admit, Thompson isn't as conservative as I'd like, but of the viable candidates, he's the most conservative and he has the most conservative record. He's pro-life and has been endorsed by The National Right to Life Committee.
Fred Thompson does beat Hillary in polls for the general election, and if he is chosen as the candidate, the party will unify behind him (except for the bitter, anti-war hold-outs in the Ron Paul gang, what they'll do is anyone's guess).

I’ve had my fair share of compassionate conservatism. What I’m ready for is some good ole conservative conservatism. Government should promote rugged individualism and self-sufficience. People should get tax breaks for each rung they climb on the ladder to wealth. Those kinds of policies would make this country greater. But instead we get a government that tells folks no need to fend for yourselves, we have a program! I absolutely cringe every time George Bush gives a speech with the words ‘government has a role to play’ in _________ (fill in the blank).

Mike makes a much better preacher than he does a politician.

I don’t think he is a loon. I think he has trouble with tough love. He is thinking of the helplessness of children but he can’t make the hard decisions of it will take to make the illegals go home. They will go home if they have no place to work, live, or get care.
Huckabee makes me sick.
Huckster is scarier to me than a Hillary/Paul administration.
Romney made a good point on Glenn Beck. Providing that sort of tuition assistance is simply another incentive to lure people over the border. In other words, you’re not punishing anyone at all but instead rewarding the parents for their wrongdoing. Romney wants to put a stop to the things that attract the illegals to our country. If the free everything stops -- so will the flow.

Well they are. But they are also God's chosen people. They are wondering around the mountain again waiting for a Messiah who has already come. Christians don't hate Jews, unless you are confused like Jimmy.

Huckabee promotes 'open door' policy at LULAC convention

LITTLE ROCK - In a impassioned speech before hundreds of influential Hispanic civil rights leaders from across the nation, Gov. Mike Huckabee told a captive audience Wednesday that America is great because it has always opened it doors up to people seeking a better way of life.
"I would hope that no matter who we are, or where we are from, that America should always be a place that opens its arms, opens it heart, opens its spirit to people who come because they want the best for their families ...," Huckabee said as the largely Hispanic audience gave him a standing ovation.
Huckabee was the keynote speaker, along with Tyson Foods Inc. Chairman and CEO John Tyson, at a noon luncheon of the League of United Latin American Citizens, which is holding its 76th annual convention in Little Rock.
About 10,000 political, community and business leaders, along with exhibitors and speakers are in Little Rock attending the convention at the Statehouse Convention Center. The convention started Monday and runs through Saturday.
Although he never actually talked about the U.S. or Arkansas immigration policy, Huckabee made it very clear where he stood on the issue. In his opening remarks, he said the nation will need to address the concerns of the Hispanic community because of its growing influence and population base.
He told the LULAC delegates that their presence in the state's capital city was very important because Arkansas has one of the fastest growing Hispanic populations in the nation. "Your gathering is so very significant for our state," Huckabee said. "We are delighted to have you."
Despite several light moments, Huckabee did not stray away from several controversial issues that made him a target of criticism during the recently ended 85th General Assembly. He said Arkansas needs to make the transition from a traditional Southern state to one that recognizes and cherishes diversity "in culture, in language and in population."
"This is an issue that is going to require extraordinary efforts on both sides of the border, particularly those coming from Mexico," Huckabee said of verifying the status of illegal aliens. "But I am confident that our government will recognize that we should accommodate people who wish to provide the best opportunities for their families (and) employers so that we can make sure our economy has the necessary work force."
During the legislation session, Huckabee criticized an immigration bill by Republican senators Jim Holt of Springdale and Denny Altes of Fort Smith as un-Christian, un-American, irresponsible and anti-life. Senate Bill 206, which died in the Senate, would have required proof of citizenship to register to vote and also force state agencies to report suspected cases of people living in the country illegally. Holt, R-Springdale, replied later to Huckabee's comments that Christian charity does not include turning a blind eye to lawbreaking.
No he's more into the robbing from American kids and giving it to illegals.
Huck makes no sense at all. It is one thing to give an illegal child a basic education (which I believe the Supreme Court has already mandated). It is quite another to demand that taxpayers provide college education. And why help only with college when they leave HS? Why not demand that taxpayers subsidize those who want to start businesses rather than continue in academia? It’s the same rationale—to be able to earn a better living. If you start providing college ed, it is only a matter of time before all manner of post-HS benefits will be demanded on the same basis.
Huck’s a nice guy. But we have brighter bulbs in the chandelier, who not incidentally, have no desire to function as National Nanny.
