Liberty Counsel targets K-Mart, Sears for refusing to use 'Christmas' in ads

A Christian law firm is targeting two retail giants after they offended Christians with their advertising.
Officials at Liberty Counsel say K-Mart and Sears have renamed "Christmas trees" to "holiday trees" in their advertising. According to Liberty Counsel founder Mat Staver, a ministry supporter asked K-Mart why it took the action.
"A representative from Sears Holding Corporation, which owns K-Mart as well, wrote back and said that Sears is a diverse company and it did not want to offend any of its associates or valued customers," explains Staver. "It also said this in its letter: we decided to call them, speaking of Christmas trees, holiday trees, because even if Christians are the only religion that use the Christmas tree, we do not want complaints from other customers from different religions complaining about our use of [the term] 'Christmas trees.'"
Staver says such a response is ridiculous and should be cause for a boycott by concerned Christians. He says in an effort not to offend, the retailers have in fact offended a large portion of their base. Sears took similar action two years ago, Staver points out, but was forced to reprint the ads to include "Merry Christmas" after a large public outcry.
Root Boy Slim will be angry.
So if I asked them if they sell any Christmas trees they’ll tell me no?
But, Sears is paying all their employees on National Guard duty while they are overseas.
Merry tossmas!

sKmart better take another look at the demographics of America.
Sears website says all Christmas trees are on sale through tomorrow: http://www.sears.com/shc/s/v_10153_12605_For+the+Home?adCell=AH
On the other hand KMart appears to be celebration Martha Stewart Day.

Which does bring up the “are they made with real Girl Scouts” question from Addams family.
Sears did not want to offend any of its valued customers...
?
Does anyone shop at Sears anyway? : )
When you contact them, with them a merry CHRISTmas and merry tossmas.....

LOL, I just searched Christmas Tree at Sears and got a lot of results for Christmas Trees, when I searched ‘Holiday Tree’ I pulled up a couple of sweaters.
K Mart, no go. Sears, I have to think about that as Sears policy is to take care of our service men. The ones that had jobs there are promised their jobs back AND will pay them while they are doing active duty. Maybe think twice about avoiding them.
The last thread like this claimed that Lowes was doing the same. It was BS too.
This has got to be a internet rumor....I hope.
That is incredible.
They’re Martha Stewart trees?!
How can I boycot stores I never shop at anyway?
Went to both on Black Friday, and bought something at both stores. K-Mart was lousy, as usual, but it had one thing in particular that I wanted. Sears, as always, was a fine experience. Nice store, good selection. Good prices.
I’d boycott them if I shopped there. So I guess I’m not able to strike a blow on behalf of Christmas.
I was in Sears the other day. The store directory listed a Boutique de Navidad.
“The name’s Ash. Housewares. Now . . . which one of you *primates* wants a piece of me?”
In other news, these dice won’t be rollin’ into Sears or K-mart.

?
Or any other year.
“Sears Search on Christmas
The last thread like this claimed that Lowes was doing the same. It was BS too.”
I searched both sites as well. Christmas stuff everywhere. Some folks just can’t find enough people to be angry with. Way to show that good Christian “Christmas spirit”.
Yup, the website says Christmas Trees.
When you do a search for Christmas, very few items come up...mostly music. Less than 100.
There’s 212 results for holiday.
No wonder their CEO was named the “Worst CEO of 2007”
After looking a both wed sites, where just are they refusing to say Christmas?
At least we made it into December this year, last year I think it was about the 4th of July when they fired up.
How many of these are really BS from people being hypersensitive?
Yup, no indication which parts of Martha Stewart are included though.
What kind of a source is onenewsnow? or Liberty council? They sure don’t look like reliable to me and it’s bad some of you are falling for that
That’s certainly better than the initial post says.
I used to be hung up on this, but if the stores are going to disentangle the birth of Christ from abject materialism by avoiding to use the word Christmas, in the long this actually might be a benefit.
Good point, for all we know, they are owned by Sears’ competition.
I’ll do my shopping during the Kwanza markdown days.
Thanks, that was funny!
You’re welcome.
Merry Christmas.
Most of them probably come from people that have some other general disagreement with the company (every company is hated by somebody) so they start this kind of stuff as revenge. As you can tell by these threads most people don’t bother to check they just hop on the boycott.
:o) bingo
Happy Hanukkah
Is every sign in the store in English and Spanish. That’s what they did in a new Lowe’s they built by us. Very disconcerting.
On the other hand, I dislike seeing the body of Christ get lost in the same world that fails to honor the Savior.
...on the other hand...she only had three fingers
Never really paid attention if it was.
What does one say for today? “Happy Pearl Harbor Day” doesn’t sound right.
