Thank you to everyone for taking the time to respond to my post. You’ve helped me narrow down my choices and I’ll take the advise that many of you gave me, which is to try a bunch of different guns at the range and narrow down further that way.
A laser is just a better tool, IMHO.

That’s a reason to dump your antique and get a modern gun with a rail right there.
The most powerful one that you can shoot BOTH accurately & comfortably. In simple terms a hit in the throat with a .22 long rifle is better than a miss by a mile with a .44 magnum .
Hits are what count ! That is the essence of combat pistol shooting. Sending rounds downrange is fun but hitting the bad guy & inflicting pain,suffering,violence upon them is what really counts. Go to a indoor range & try out several different types/calibers of sidearm to find out what is best for you.
