WMAL just updated and improved their web site last week.
Next to the "What's Hot" red tab section, there's an "Insider Central" red tab on the right side of the screen. I see nothing inside that Insider Central box, which is perhaps 2" x 3", except a blank powder-blue colored box. I was told that I should see a 7-tab slide show under "Insider Central".
In the "What's Hot" box I see all kinds of things going through -- Top News, Local News, G&A, Chris Plante & Insiders ( a 5-tab slide show).
I contacted Comcast customer service (I have Hi-Speed Internet), who recommended upgrade to Windows 7.0 up from 6.0 in order to view the Insider Central slideshow. Deleting cookies did not help. Customer service rep was also stumped, because he has 6.0 in his version and could view both red tab slide shows on the WMAL site, but I could not.
However, I contacted Comcast 10 minutes later, and another dude answered, and he said that all he had under the Insider Central tab was grayish-blueish box (like me).
I want to take a poll of who's having problems with the new 630 WMAL site, specifically in seeing the "Insider Central" (right side) red tab slide show.
Read original message above — IMPORTANT!
I want to take a poll of who’s having problems with the new 630 WMAL site, specifically in seeing the “Insider Central” (right side) red tab slide show (7-tab slide show).
I see the slide show using Firefox 2.0.0.14, right clicking shows that it has Adobe Flash Player content.
Buford - Can you forward this post to your DC list, please! Thanks!
DANG!
Thanks, G!
The Insider Central section is Flash-driven. You write that you're running IE6. If you do not have Flash installed/enabled, then this is the source of your problem.
On my IE6, when I first visit the page (or refresh), I see the light blue box. I'm immediately presented with a dialog box asking me to click OK to continue. When I click the OK button, the blue box is replaced with the Insider Central content.
If you didn't see this dialog box, then it sounds like you either don't have Flash installed, or if it is installed (and current) but disabled, then this is most likely the source of your problem.

How do I enable it?
It’s gotta be something with that specific box and/or my browser or Flash because when I go to the 77WABC radio site, I have the same little powder-blue box appearing there....
What version of Flash player do you have installed? If not 8, then you should try to upgrade to 8.
It says that I have version 9,0,124,0 installed successfully. I just spend 3 minutes re-installing and still no box. I’m just going to wait for my husband to come home & take a look at it.
We have to update our Norton Anti-Virus too.... it’s been a while.... maybe something’s infected....
got the Insider Central slide shows (6, not 7 buttons) with Verizon FIOS
If I were you, I would upgrade to the IE7, tho. I’ve had it maybe 1.5 years and it’s worked well for moi ... especially the multi-tab, multi-windows feature.
It sounds like it's a setting on your computer. I have IE6, IE7 & FF2 installed on my system and I have no problems seeing the content on any of them.
Is there a tab for the “Listener Column”? If so, tell me what it says. Is there a pic there of Chris & I? If not, what pic is there for the Listener Column specific tab?
My column is the Listener Column for this week.
My IE6 works fine.
The box has ads and links.
I have a Mac and Comcast broadband and everything comes up just fine. :-p
I have IE 5 on Windows ME, so I think I’ll pass until I get to work tomorrow (Firefox on XP).
Question: On WMAL's website do you see the single row of blue buttons that read?
| Home | Shows | Weekends | News | Insider Central | Listen | Video | Station |
To rectify this on your menu bar across the top of IE select the following menu option...
Tools->Internet Options->Security (tab)->Custom level...(button)
Scroll down to: Scripting->Active Scripting
Select "Enable"
Click OK twice
Reload/Refresh the WMAL website
Just in case you continue to have problems here's the page for Listener columns
Thanks for all of this, P.
When I go to Scripting->Active Scripting it says that it is “Enabled”. However, when I went to ActiveX controls and plug-ins->Automatic prompting for ActiveX controls it said that it was “Disabled”.
To answer your other question, the drop-down menu does appear on the site, and I can access everything on the site, except for all the stuff on the Insider Central box.
It appears that I’m the only one so far that has this problem.
Gremlins. It’s gremlins.
Good news on WMAL’s web site: wish the station would allow and/or Mark Levin would be available for THREE HOURS (I could listen to The Great One all day — especially if he devoted an hour to just taking “liberal” callers to trash).
Maybe they could bump Austin Texas until 9PM and let Toast-to-Toast start afterward. After all, how offended would THIS GUY be:

Levin’s show originates from WABC in NYC, and he gets 2 hours - so 2 hours is what WMAL gets. If anything, requests for that sort of thing should be made to his handlers in NY.
I’m at work. The WMAL page works fine with Windows XP and Firefox 2.0.0.14.
Good Morning! Bright-eyed & bushy-tailed, eh?
Thanks, TSR!
Did anyone hear a “disturbing call” (as Chris just put it) in the 9:00 a.m. hour reagrding someone who called on this Barack-Hillary topic? I caught Chris’ short comment about this at 9:56 a.m., as I was getting in my car from a trip to the grocery store.
EXPLAIN!!!!!
Here's the thing about that. Unless he lives in PA and listening over the internets where will his vote count in a primary? I call BS. I just think he was a seminar caller trying to make republicans look like racists and garner votes for Obama. Sad Chris was so taken back by his announcement that he was in the KKK he didn't see what was really going on. Call in and ask for an explanation.
Okay, if I call in and ask for an explanation, how do I formulate my question? I didn’t hear the exchange nor the call, so I don’t want to sound like a complete idiot.
START....
I’m going to send a quick e-mail to his producer with this concern....
I’m not calling in.
However, I just e-mailed with a ‘high priority’ your theory. His producer checks his e-mails while on-air. Let’s see what they say about that. Stay tuned.
The “KKK Guy” call (his name is Mike) is here:
http://www.630wmal.com/sectional.asp?id=18381
Tues., April 22 - Minute 29:32 to Minute 33:15
_____________________
In Minute 1:23:15 to Minute 1:26:34 is my call (Silvie’s) to the show regarding the Yale abortion art show.
Wow! The KKK has such a huge membership and that guy happens to be from PA and also be a Chris Plant listener! Like, what are the odds?
What a bunch of crap. Chris ought to get control of his airwaves again and find a way to keep these bozos off his show before they really nail him with something.
I think Chris does need a "Seminar Caller Meter". He was so taken back the KKK guy he lost all perspective to detect BS. I blame his call screeners.
In all fairness to the call screener, the KKK Guy said that he was a ‘hatemonger’ and a ‘member of the KKK’ well into the conversation with Chris. So, there was no way to detect and/or ask before he went on-air these probing questions.
At the beginning of the conversation he was just another loser who said that he’d vote for Obama (didn’t even specify clearly whether it was in a primary contest or in the general election), and then, as the call progressed, the truth came out.
Ha ha! Side effects of becoming a Dem for a day,...did you catch that guy?
I enrolled in a class in floral design!
Funny thing is that yesterday I sub at my son’s school for 4th grade,...by the end of the day I realized that the words “Earth Day” had not crossed my lips once.
Gotta catch up on work today, so I have to turn Chris off. ;0(
My son’s school made a big deal about Earth Day for the past month — they had to dress in green yesterday and were ‘encouraged’ to tell their parents of the importance of recycling (which I do already).... my son has been talking about recycling specifically for a whole week.... watching everything I throw in the trash, etc. He even saw my ‘Recycle Bin’ icon in my computer and said “Mommy, do you recycle your Internet to save the Earth?”
UUUUGGGHGHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Wow, today is “Pile It All On Chris Plante Day”, huh? I’ve lost count on how many times he’s been called a “Racist” in the past week....
This guy started out sounding pretty slick but then revealed his low IQ. I listened to the replay and he clearly said he'd vote for Omama because in the end racism would win it for McQueeg. I think we can rule out that he was from a state which still had a primary he could vote in since Chris is just a local program. As I suspected this guy was trying to garner votes for Obama and make McQueeg supporters, ce moi, look like racists all at the same time. But since all the primaries in the WMAL listening area are over KKK guy proved his deceitful agenda.
Would make for a good call to Chris...hint, hint. Too bad hotlips used upall her call chips this week on the nasty abortion "art" story. :o(
Hot Lips didn’t listen to the original KKK call, so I couldn’t defend it on-air without fully knowing what the guy had said.... the abortion story, on the other hand, was too good to pass by....
Oh well at least we figured out KKK boy's agenda...thanks so much for posting the audio link so we could listen again.
I didn't know WMAL had that feature for free like Mark's site. I'll have to try and figure out how you found that.
Just go to “Listen” and drop down to “On Demand”.... they save shows for only a week — Chris Plante’s, Jerry Klein’s and other home improvement and medical shows.
I was put on concession duty this past Saturday for my son’s baseball team.
Upon organizing the stand I gathered up much of the plastic that was used as packing material and such and asked the ladies in charge ~ all public school moms (sorry) ~ where the recyclables went. They kind of shrugged and sheepishly replied that they just kind of dumped it all into the garbage ~ standard protocol.
I took all the stuff home and put in with my recyclables. It’s really not that big a deal, but some people will never do it.
It works for me. There is Adobe Flash content in there. Fix that before messing around with your browser.
Thanks, Doo!
OKAY
Chris has got to stop these crazy’s on his show.
“The CIA planes bringing in drugs to give to African Americans”?
Why doesn’t he just cut them off?
I hold you personally responsible. ;o)
It makes for GREAT radio though...... I LOVE IT!!!
Perhaps this caller (Tony from Upper Marlboro) worked at the NSA in building maintenance? There’s no way that a guy who thinks like him would be let anywhere near the NSA building nor the NSA exit off BWI Parkway.......
Yeah, he used to mow the lawns. What a joke. He was almost as bad as "CIA bringing in drugs on planes " guy.
Apparently DC is home for some really crazy people.
Art Bell & George Noory should broadcast from the studios of WMAL some day.... they’ll have plenty of nutsy callers to contend with....
About the rice rationing — went to the grocery store today and the rice bag shelves were nearly empty. Total PANIC!
Actually I'd love for the liquor stores to be open on Sundays like we had when I lived in Kentucky. Monkey County and the like have imposed their own brand of communism through the restriction of legal products in the free market...I'm sick of it!
