8 reasons I won't vote for John McCain
WorldNetDaily ^ | March 18, 2008 | Rev. Gordon James Klingenschmitt

In accord with FR's posting rules, I can only give you a short excerpt, but you can read the full article at http://www.wnd.com/index.php?fa=PAGE.view&pageId=59187

His listed reasons:

Sen. McCain refused to help me when I fought to pray "in Jesus' name"

In 2006, McCain was one of only three Republican senators to vote against defining marriage between one man and one woman.

McCain has repeatedly distanced himself from religious groups.

The lesser of two evils is still evil.

McCain claims to be "pro-life" but supports destruction of human embryos for use as "spare parts" in unproven medical research.

McCain wrote the bill helping Ted Kennedy in his attempt to grant amnesty to illegal aliens

McCain voted against the Bush tax cuts and could preside over the largest tax increase ever when they expire next year.

McCain wrote the bill censoring free speech by religious organizations and shutting down grass-roots criticism of elected officials

I would add that I don't trust him on judges -- he said he woudl not appoint anyone like Alito. One of his organizations received major funding from George Soros. He has taken the Big Government side on virtually every key issue.

I think Obama will be the nominee. The Dem “superdelegates” are afraid of the blacks rioting.

The Dem powerbrokers will control Obama, and probably easier than they would Hillary.

Rush is right. Blacks will be very upset for a little while. By November they will be back on the democrat plantation. They always are. The DNC uppy-ups know this, it always turns out that way. They can keep screwing blacks and the blacks will be upset for awhile, but they will all fall back in line with the dems.

Any pro-lifer who sits out this election is an absolute moron. The only traction the movement has at the moment is in the courts and we’re one vote away from throwing Roe out the door with two aged libs on the court who should be retired or dead soon. It’d be entirely non-sensical to throw a hissy fit at this point. If the author cared that much about ideological purity he’d have organized around someone more suitable in the primaries. If Obama picks the next Supreme Court nominee because of people like this I’ll be throwing a hissy fit of my own.

Obama will beat McCain with “McCain means four more years of Bush.” Independent voters decide the election and that mantra will send them to vote Democrat.

What really has them cranked all the way up to "11" on the Ineffectually Huffy McCainiac scale, I think, is this: after gleefully indulging themselves four the past three, four months -- on this board and elsewhere -- in shrilling at conservatives: "We don't need you to win this one! We don't need you any longer, EVER! White liberals and illegal aliens as a voting base will allow us to rule for A MILLION BILLION YEARS! AH-HAHAHAHAAAAAAA!!!"

Now that the painful reality has been inexorably setting in these past few weeks, however -- particularly the dread, sinking realization that, without movement conservatives, McCain can scarcely raise bus fare home, campaign donations-wise -- Team Juan realizes that they all they genuinely have left, at this point, is either: a.) screaming others into submission; b.) scaring other into submission; or c.) both. And, thus: the ongoing downward spiral of ugliness and self-defeating behavior we see them locked into here.

The Reagan conservative voting coalition -- which, with the sole exception of Bill Clinton, had reliably kept the White House in Republican hands since 1980 -- has been dynamited to scattered useless bits, at their own express insistence... and for what, in the final analysis?

For what?

Great. So? It's not like there are any other options at the moment. It's up to him to handle of the cognitive dissonance of that position. For things like that we can always change the law or prevent changes. But we can't always change the courts and the courts are preventing us from legislating on abortion as a whole. That is something that can't be allowed to continue if we are ever to win on these issues in the future.

Obama voted in Ill to kill the baby if an abortion was botched and the baby lived. Now think about that. He said if you try to kill your baby and fail, we will still kill it for you.

I absolutely HATE McCain, but I will be voting for him. I don't agree with everything Bush has done either. I didn't even approve of everything Reagan did. I thought Reagan would blow Lebanon off the map, but he decided to leave. I was going to vote for Hunter, but I didn't like his protectionism. I would have voted for Thompson, but there were about 4-5 differences I had with him. Realistically, Tancreado was right on every issue I ever heard him speak on. I especially liked his threat to bomb Mecca if we ever got attacked again. They didn't make it to Texas for me to vote for any of them. I even voted for Huckabee just to show McCain he didn't have it in the bag. I had to take a shower when I got home.

If you want to just nit pick, I'm sure everyone would pi$$ you off at some time or the other. Your other choice is Obama. Nuff said.

If Obama picks the next Supreme Court nominee because of people like this

Imaging Hillary in the White House when two vacancies occur, and she has a filibuster-proof Senate due to all the PTTC's who sit out the election (PTTC = Purer-Than-Thou Conservative).

Nothing's to stop her from putting anybody she wants on the USSC for the rest of their lives, two "gifts" to the country that keep on giving and giving and giving, for decades to come.

Who do you think she would put on the USSC? Take a guess! I'm basing my guess on the fact that the Attorney General choice way back in '93 was reportedly made by HRC.

Yes! That's right! Imagine Her Honorable Justice of the US Supreme Court Janet Reno, and His Honorable William Jefferson Clinton sitting on that court for life, making all the "tough decisions that Congress just doesn't have the guts to make".

Even if popular revulsion to a HRC Presidency should give us back Congress and the WH in 4 years, a "Leftwing For The Rest Of Your Lifetime" USSC will throw out any new GOP legislation they don't like.

I totally agree with your assessment. The original poster says that the “lesser of two evils is still evil.” That mindset becomes a problem when you classify anyone you disagree with as evil.

McCain has some policies we all disagree with. But to stay home and not vote or throw your vote away on a third party when we are fighting a WAR... wow. just shameful.

In politics the struggle is to keep your principles but get rid of your dogma. The original poster clings to both.

So if we follow Rev. Gordon James Klingenschmitt's reasoning we should allow the election of the Socialist's Party (formerly known as Democrat) candidate?

Many conservatives are not fond of the idea of McCain being the nominee, but he is, and so FOR THE GOOD OF THE COUNTRY we will not allow a Socialist to be elected.

Yep but less evil than the other... The good rev. knows purity doesn’t exist among mortal humans but I guess it makes him feel oh so righteous.

I’ll vote for McCain in the General for the following two reasons:

1] The men and women of our military

2] The next SCOTUS nominees

I see the egos of many people reducing them into principled idiots. In deciding our nation’s future, one should choose the better form of leadership. That means you vote for the D or the R nominee. Anything else is egoistic folly.

I used to look at various polls and wonder what kind of fool could possibly be undecided. I get it now.

Ann Coulter makes a convincing argument:

"If Hillary is elected president, we'll have a four-year disaster, with Republicans ferociously opposing her, followed by Republicans zooming back into power, as we did in 1980 and 1994, and 2000. (I also predict more Oval Office incidents with female interns.)

"If McCain is elected president, we'll have a four-year disaster, with the Republicans in Congress co-opted by "our" president, followed by 30 years of Democratic rule."

(Not sure if this argument works as well with Obamessiah as the Dem nominee.)

The SCOTUS angle is an important consideration, but I'm not convinced that McCain's picks would be any better than Obama's. And I'm reluctant to reward the Republicans' bad behavior with my vote. What does that get us except more bad behavior?

Maybe it's time to drop back and punt, rely on our defense, and try to do better on our next possession.

Obama, who has delivered constitutional lectures at University of Chicago Law School, said he thought Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg was “a very sensible judge.”
