Senator Obama: Pick Senator James Webb For Vice President
Peace and Freedom ^ | June 9, 2008 | John E. Carey

Posted on 06/09/2008 5:51:41 PM PDT by Erik Latranyi

Supposed I am in the “Vice Presidential Search Committee” of Democratic Candidate Barack Obama. I’d immediately start researching and evaluating Virginia Senator James Webb.

Senator Webb has a lot of attributes Senator Obama lacks and needs.

He is also an author and a former Secretary of the Navy under President Ronald Reagan; Defense Department experience in a Republican Administration. A huge upcheck that Obama could use.

Jim Webb was a “ground pounder” Marine Officer in Vietnam. This doesn’t completely neutralize John McCain’s “War Hero” status and doesn’t match McCain as a once-tortured Prisoner of War. But some will say, McCain flew OVER the jungles of Vietnam. Jim Webb was leading Marines in ground combat IN THE JUNGLES of Vietnam.

Mr. Obama is from a northern, mid-western state. Mr. Webb is from a southern, eastern state.

Mr. Obama is from the land of Lincoln. Mr. Webb is from George Washington’s and Robert E. Lee’s home state.

Jim Webb believes in the right to carry a loaded weapon. His staff even famously got into trouble for having Jim Webb’s revolver on Capitol Hill; a violation of Senate Rules and Capitol Police rules. But this “trouble” might be an asset to members of the National Rifle Association.

Jim Webb had a now famous brief, yet hostile, exchange of words with President George W. Bush concerning the war in Iraq. Every Democrat wishes he or she could say that.

Jim Webb chews tobacco; or at least did at one time. This, along with his tendency to pack heat, will appeal to those Mr. Obama accused of “clinging” to their guns and religion.

Mr. Webb “clings” to his gun for self protection — just like a bunch of our American voters.

Mr. Obama has been accused of being an elitist.

Jim Webb would never pass the test for an elitist. He might spit tobacco juice on it.

And Jim Webb wears not Nikes on his day off. He wears COWBOY BOOTS. And jeans.

Think Obama has any of THOSE?

Jim Webb has “stature.” Same call this “veritas.” Jim Webb is thoughtful, an author, a real man of ground combat and the outdoors. Men from Texas might call Jim Webb a “Straight Shooter.” Men from Texas wouldn’t trust Barack Obama with a loaded weapon.

And oh by the way. Senator Webb’s wife is an accomplished lawyer from a Vietnamese family.

Jim Webb fills a lot of voids that Barack Obama needs to fill….

At this point, the Karl Rove of the “Team Obama” tells the staff to start working out the details and specifics.

“Mr. Webb “clings” to his gun for self protection” and refuses to leave his unregistered hand gun at home when he goes to the airport!

Webb doesn't look all-too-happy or comfortable next to Obama.

Isn’t he the guy who shamelessly exploited the Macaca thing for political gain? Now the Dems could have 2 race baiters on the ticket.

Won’t work. The leftoids wont go for a “soldier” because they hate the military.

Kucinich will be better suited for Barky Boy and his BDS ilk.

Yeah great:

Two Senators with about six years between them:

One a partially African American, the other a hot head neophite.

Great choices!

Webb is a punk for the way he treated President Bush.
Just because you were in the military doesn’t mean you can’t be a jerk.

I sure hope that if BHO chooses JW as his running mate McCain has the foresight to choose Lindsey Grahamnesty for his.

Should that actually happen... whew!

I’d say that any serious research into his background will work against his chances.

Narcissists always court public opinion and say whatever it takes to win favor. Then they use the accolades as proof positive of their unique worthwhileness. The result is a puffed up persona with an unrealistic self assessment that requires periodic fixes of public approval. When this is not immediately forthcoming, look out for rages that obliterate any garnered good will.

First, Webb will have to be honest and say he has a hairpiece.

That head just ain’t natural.

Plus, with his previous writing, he will be sure to get the NAMBLA vote for the Dems.

It would be a very smart pick. I hope Obama doesn’t choose Webb.

He could do worse, but if does not pick Hillary, then Clinton 2012 starts immediately at Barry’s expense. And nobody does the politics of personal destruction better than the Clinton crime family and consiglere David Kendall.

Up close here in Virginia, Webb takes the slime factor off the scale. I hope so much that he picks him as VP. Take my Senator.......please! He has been a complete embarrassment to the state of Virginia. We have a lot of good folks here in Virginia. Unfortunately we're top heavy with DC area elitist living and voting in Virginia.

He would be a good pick on a superficial level, which is all Obama needs, since the MSM is slobbering all over themselves to elect the guy. He will be portrayed as a war hero, which he was, compared to J F'n Kerry. He will be a crotchety old coot who is favorable to the military, which will make it seem not so bad to vote for Obama instead of McCain--you get the same thing. He will fight back, he will insult, and the media will glorify him for it, instead of calling him "mean" like they did to Bob Dole. It helps with the Appalachian folk, where Obama is especially weak. It makes Virginia likely for Obama, helps throughout the south, and negates many of Obama's weak points.

I grant you that Webb is an embarassment and a disgusting creature. But the nation will never find that out, unless Webb does something really stupid during the campaign. Which he might.

I hope Obama thinks that is true. By the way we prefer South Western Virginia to "Appalachian".

In addition, James Webb is about the ONLY person Barack could pick that would actually have LESS elective office experience than Barack does, so he wouldn’t show him up.

Also, Webb is shorter than Barack.

And if McCain picks a woman VP candidate, Webb will hit on her in the debates.

What if you're Appalachian and from West Virginia, North Carolina, Tennessee, southern Ohio, northern Georgia or western NY and PA? Should we call you South Western Virginian?

Webb, like me, is scots irish, well steeped in the history of the scots irish who migrated to the US from the late 1600s to the early 1800s, who tended to move to the foothills and mountain areas, and who tended to supply the best fighters for battles with Indians, Mexicans, Kaisers, Nazis and Japanese. Webb has lost his mind, it is true, but there is a little bit of crazy in lots of scots irish, and it won't turn them off. I believe that Webb would help in VA and throughout the south and border states, and in Ohio, PA and NY. He would also help nationwide with people who are liberal but who are concerned with security issues in the age of terror. Reagan's secretary of the Navy will seem like someone they can trust to keep us safe (he's not but people are easy to fool).

Yes, and by accepting the VP spot from Obama he makes amends for any past transgressions against blacks.

I'll bet he didn't have much to say about Biden's "clean and articulate" remark, though.
