Via Jeralyn at TalkLeft:
Barack Obama and John McCain are in a statistical dead heat according to the Daily Gallup tracking poll. Why? Seems to me to be the high number of undecideds combined with those who wont vote for either.
As Karl Rove has been mentioning frequently on Fox News, during the same general pre-convention time period, Michael Dukakis enjoyed a 12-14% advantage over George W. Bush.
The key appears to be the large number of undecided voters or those who do not wish to vote for either candidate. Why is this so, and how can we take advantage of this disturbing polling that shows that the DNC has selected a weak candidate?
From Gallup: [T]he structure of the race looks slightly different than at any other time this year as a result of the relatively high percentage of voters 15% not favoring either major-party candidate. This includes 7% of voters who say they are undecided and 8% who say they will not vote for either candidate.
May I assert that one reason for this large number of undecided voters is that Barack Obama has so forcibly seized control of the Democratic party, its DNC apparatus, and the convention? (There is also, of course, his and his campaigns repugnant treatment of Hillary Clinton, and his failure to make any outreach to her supporters.)
Today, I looked up the history of the 1988 presidential race between Michael Dukakis and George W. Bush. This LEAPED OFF THE PAGE at me the DELEGATES VOTES at the national convention:
1988 Democratic National Convention[8]
Michael Dukakis - 2,877 (70.09%)
Jesse Jackson - 1,219 (29.70%)
Richard H. Stallings - 3 (0.07%)
Joe Biden - 2 (0.05%)
Dick Gephardt - 2 (0.05%)
Lloyd Bentsen - 1 (0.02%)
Gary Hart - 1 (0.02%)
We fear and the rumors are flying all over the Internet that Howard Dean is seeking to eliminate a floor vote and to remove Hillary Clintons name from the ballot at the National Convention.
Whenever people are not allowed their VOTING RIGHTS under the rules of the Democratic national party, there will be bitter divisiveness.
As we see from the history of the Dukakis nomination, delegates for other candidates were permitted to vote freely.
This is an AHISTORICAL FIRST! It is fundamentally undemocratic. It goes against all that our nation stands for.
This is why to put it very simply we must find a way to wrest control of the Democratic party from the power grab by Barack Obama.
Obamas moves and the acquiesence of hood-ornament DNC Chair Howard Dean and Speaker Nancy Pelosi must be FOUGHT.
By the way, writing letters to your superdelegates may be unproductive. Barack Obama has promised them huge sums of money (now, whether or not he can deliver that money is questionable).
Our best venue is to get this story into the media at every opportunity. Be brave, don your best outfits, and speak out. Appear on television, call in to radio shows, call up your local newpapers and tell them that youre part of a national movement to keep Hillary Clinton on the ballot at the convention in August, and write letters to the editor.
Our other best bet is to refuse to give the DNC any money, and to make it clear to the DNC that NO more donations will be forthcoming as long as this power-grab is allowed to continue.
I am posting this in a separate post, but take note of this: One of the primary PUMA spokespersons is Will Bower, a highly articulate representative for our views. He will be on MSNBC on Monday morning at 11:30 a.m. ET, and will be interviewed by one of Keith Olbermanns handmaidens. But Bower is capable of getting his message out clearly despite her sure-to-be-biased line of questioning.
We can also work for the primary opponents of Nancy Pelosi, John Kerry, and other Obamabot politicians.
I.e., we can cause a big stink and make ourselves heard.
Be creative. Think of ways to get your voices heard by as many people as possible.

Strange. Only a ffew days ago, we were told Pbama was about 5-7 points ahead in the Gallup poll, Rasmussen poll, etc..
...what do you want, a big government socialist or a big government socialist?
[Michael Dukakis enjoyed a 12-14% advantage over George W. Bush.]
Um....I really don’t think so. Dubya ran against Algore (2000) and John F-in Skerry (2004).
If it's a choice between obambi and anyone, I'll vote for anyone. No matter what the choices are, obambi is the worst for the country. As much as I dislike the options, I will not destroy the country to make my ego feel good.
A big government socialist is probably the only thing that can’t be said about Juan. He has consistently voted to cut spending and eliminate pork.
Now...immigration, ANWR, embryonic stem cells, global warming, etc.... that is where we have a problem with Juan.
If McCain came out for increased energy development in this country, including drilling, he could sew this election up.
I think you are right...but he is too stupid for that. I’ll vote for him anyways because ALL the alternatives are worse.
I think he meant his father, George H. Bush.
Ummmm..he is talking about president Bush's dad, who run against Dukakis in 1988. It says 1988 right at the top of those figures. Dukakis was ahead by 17% at one time in the summer, and still got clobbered in November.
Send a message, third party ...
His father was not George W. Bush.
He kind of was. I think it was George H. W. Bush to be exact. But most people do know Bush 41 as George H. Bush.
After all the hype, we will probably have low voter turnout.
Both candidates stink, and people are getting tired of them already.
I don’t like McCain. I’m writing in my cats. One less vote for Obama, right?
The privacy of the voting booth is a terrible thing. :)
its over
Obama has lost.
It sounds so arrogant to say so ... but
i agree.
Obama is toast.
If he cannot run ahead before the country has begun paying him any sort of
serious scruntiny
... and before the opponents have even begun campaigning ...
how can anyone think that he’ll be ahead in November?
Is he going to GAIN FURTHER SUPPORT from here on?

From Gallup: “[T]he structure of the race looks slightly different than at any other time this year as a result of the relatively high percentage of voters 15% not favoring either major-party candidate. This includes 7% of voters who say they are undecided and 8% who say they will not vote for either candidate.”
Both candidates are from the leftwing of their respective party.
But at least McCain has a compelling bio and qualification and experience behind him.
Obama is the worst nominee from either party in decades. He is kept aloft by a good bamboozling campaign and the most biased media ever. There is really not a single reason for any non-leftist to vote for the unqualified Obama. He’s a junior Senator with the most liberal voting record in the Senate, zero accomplishments save getting elected, and very poor judgments, as shown by the friends he’s had to disown this campaign. He’s hoping to get a lot of votes via ‘white guilt’ even though he spent 20 years in an afrocentric church that blames “white man’s greed” for ills of the world.
Agreed.
Its really worse than that.
He has been hyped to the max. He is such a young candidate that his negatives can go nowhere but up.
He should have a large and growing lead at this point. He is already stalling on the debates with McCain because he knows its downhill from here and direct comparisons hurt him greatly.
I am no McCain fan, but it seems inevitable that he will crush Obama.
Because the MS is pulling for and outright lying about the candidates in order to throw the elections over to the Dem candidate.
Wouldn't have a chance in real life, but when every poll shows the Big “O” leading everyone else, you have to wonder if the media has taken to smoking clove cigarettes.
In a college sociology class we covered one form of relationship called emmanation. It's like infatuation in that one person sees all kinds of positive qualities in the other that may not even be there. (Note: College was 31 years ago and I was a Math major so don't nit-pick me on the details!). The key was that the emmanation relationship ends with reality, when the worshipper realizes the "mystery" was all in him/herself.
Right now Obama is an empty vessel and his supporters are filling him up with their hopes and dreams. They see him talk about a problem and assume the solution he's pursue is the one they'd chose.
This is the flimsiest of bases for support. When reality sets in his supporters won't be disappointed, they'll be crushed, completely disillusioned. This is even more likely for younger supporters.
Then there's the contrasting approaches to voting between the two camps. The old folks will support McCain. They vote, every time. Out of duty, habit, an appreciation for the privelege. The youth haven't and they're Obama's peeps. "Dude, when was registration? Can't I, like, get an note from my parents that I was sick that day?
The "intellectuals" will bullshit their way around anything to avoid admitting they're wrong. The young folks will opt out. I hope they stay home and the Republicans survive down-ticket as well.
