In fact, Representative Maurice Hinchey stated that we (the government) should own the refineries. Then we can control how much gets out into the market.
I feel like I have woken up in the twilight zone. This is not the country I thought I lived in.
If they actually have this on tape - video or audio - every conservative running for office should include it in his campaign ads.
Especially the one running against Hinchey.
Thank you Congressman Mugabe.
Orwell’s “1984” — 24 years later.
So, the same folks running Amtrak want to run the oil industry.
If the feds run it, you’ll need to sign a form intriplicate just to get the permission to use a pump. Then, sign some more forms to allow a federal employee to pump the gasoline.
What is going to be done about this?? The Democrats (and some Republicans) are blatantly disregarding the constitution.
At least this LibTard makes no attempt to hide the agenda...
It’s always been about control. It will forever be about control.
What is going to be done about this??
Civil War II
Has anyone else encountered this? My daughter came home from school with a ‘permission slip’ to attend a local school function.
In it there was a three page document, written in legalese, that said I waived any right to prosecute in case any accident happened to my duahgter while on this field trip, and it had to be signed AND WITNESSED.
I told them to stuff it- there was no way I was signing any such document.
Lemme’ see if I got this straight...he’s saying we should let a government entity take over and control an industry they know nothing about...an industry they’ve spent decades regulating and taxing to the point of strangulation...an entity that has never produced a single drop of oil, and has come down on the wrong side of history for at least the last 35 years...and he thinks that’s going to make things better!? Omigod! I just woke up in Zimbabwe!!
Absolutely. Obama has a history of associating with socialists, and the Democrats in Congress are advocating socialism.
This is *not* the change we need!
Especially the one running against Hinchey."
Are you sure it would help?
The average citizen will think this a good thing. Hell there are a growing number of posters right here on FR who think government intervention in the free market is the ticket to prosperity.
They can’t run the Senate restaurant, so what makes them think that they can run the nationwide oil industry?
How do Marxists like this get voted into office? How friggin' dumb is the voting public? This just confirms my belief that we should require all voters to pass a current events test before they can vote. It's a fact that a good percentage of people have no clue who or what they are voting for. They simply find the party lever and pull it. People just don't care enough to take care of their political futures.

Democrats must be confused about “1984”.
It was a warning, not a suggestion.
Like they ran the DC post office (a book of stamps please oh by the way I only have this $40.000 check)
That’s what gets me.
The libtards, for decades, have realized that they must implement their agenda from stealth, from the cover of populism,
but more and more, they’re getting bolder and revealing their nature.
Bingo. I tell all those who advocate government health care to go visit a government housing project and then get back to me.
He’s a member in good standing. Check out Rome2000 (post #13) in Freeper forest’s great thread from 2004 here...

Enemies within BUMP!

“I’m comin’ and Hell’s comin’ with me!”
We are fixin to pay for it come November....*shudder*
The Democrats are becoming arrogant and brash. They are only high on their sense of power so they think they can say what ever is on their mind without public scrutiny.
But they have no clue how complex the Oil Industry really is. If they actually do attempt to seize the nation’s refineries, most of the technicians will just walk away and leave them to figure it out for themselves.
The level of skill required to operate and maintain this industry is not something that comes with instructions. It also takes years of on the job experience to even be able to function at an average position. Supervisors and consultants take decades.
Such an idiotic move would be a complete disaster and would shut this country down instantly. Not to mention the countless fires, spills and explosions that would surely follow the effects of having Government zombies manning the valves and cooling towers.
I agree with you-if they claim that means the price of gas will be held at $3.00 or under, the average voter will applaud. Very few will care about the socialist implications-and those few will be called “elitists”, “out of touch” , “rich %$#@ who don’t realize how high gas prices are hurting the average American consumer” etc etc ad nauseum ad infinitum.
But they'd be "unionized", so they would obviously be better workers than the ones that are there now! /sarc (did I need that?)
Soviet Union v 2.0
It’s on.... how can the socialist win? and if they do... they’ll fall out of power for years after.
Amen. I saw this on the news last evening and thought what a bunch elite snobs. They have no concept of what made this country great.
Ithaca, the City of Evil.
“If they actually have this on tape - video or audio - every conservative running for office should include it in his campaign ads.”
It DEFINITELY should be shown in McCain ads, juxtaposing Mr. Hinchey side-by-side with Mr. Obama.
Will add a bit of “color” to the campaign rhetoric!

Unfortunately, Hinchley probably represents his constituents very well.
There are a lot of people in this country who should not be voting. And I bet a lot of them vote for Hinchley.
“How do Marxists like this get voted into office?”
“How friggin’ dumb is the voting public”
HINT:
The honorable Mr. Hinchey was voted into office by people who knew EXACTLY whom they were voting for.
The political makeup of the American demographic is changing. Look for more - not less - of this in the future....

But the crux of the problem is not supply, it is the base price for crude. So what if the Government can control the distillate market in this country. The current gas price is due to the cost of crude to be bought from other countries because we cannot supply enough of it for ourselves, to meet the demand.
To solely drill our own reserves, would take years to meet our current daily use before we could function without buying foreign oil.
We simply cannot snap our finger and drill, drill, drill and replace foreign imports in a few months. It just doesn’t work that way.
I think it is more likely that the workers will stay on the job to turn the valves, but the government will dictate the production quotas to fit a national energy plan.
They already do something similar to some degree with environmental regulations that define the acceptable technologies, maintenance schedules, etc. with the goal of meeting environmental standards. Just replace “environmental standards” with “national energy production standards”. It won’t really look like a siezure, just a common-sense comprehensive national plan. If the democrats sell this right, I can easily see it happening.
As someone who works in this industry, this worries me.
We are at a crucial and critical time in the history of this country-there’s an almost overwhelming feeling around me that the government has failed the people and no longer functions as it should...the question is, what will the people do about it?
That has been the Democrat mantra since Carter tuned energy policy over to the Clamshell Alliance.
Okay so why aren’t congressmen impeached for threatening facist takeovers of private property? First what’s her name in California, and now this guy.
Ye, we can thank our public education (indoctrination) system for the product they have set loose on this country.
They are coming of voting age and are told now, even in High School, that voting as soon as they become of legal age is vital to save the World from the evils of Capitalism. They use threats and fear and propaganda about Globull Warming to motivate them.
This is the ONLY reason a Marxist like Obama, who only has 2 years experience in the Senate, can rise to the top of the Pond so quickly. The voters are clueless.
I believe the high crude price, and thus the high gas price,
is based on the speculative price.
This speculative price will drop precipitously when their is actual intent to increase supply.
During the congressional hearings with oil executives testifying, Maxine Waters stated “we should socialize the oil companies”. Of course this nitwit meant “nationalize”, but couldn,t quite get it out. Seems oil prices may be a part of a fabricated excuse to do a oil company grab.

That's a really good point. Even threatening to nationalize should be enough to get a congressman impeached. Unfortunately, most Americans don't think that way anymore.
I was talking to a friend who works at a refinery today and he said "Well, I don't know about nationalizing, but the government's got to do something..." He's a smart guy, an engineer with 20-plus years of experience, and politically middle of the road.
