Watch the North Pole melt! (Vanity)

It's been proclaimed by scientists: Santa's doomed. The North Pole will have melted by the end of the summer. To which I say, let's wait and see (literally)!
Global Warming alarmists are getting desperate, throwing terrorism and Santa's home into the mix to scare us.
So, my humble radio show/podcast website now features a "North Pole Global Warming Cam".
Link to the story in question, and audio, is available there.
Freep on!

Put me down for Aug. 12, at 4:15 PM for when the webcam floats away. (What time zone is the North Pole in?)

It’s a little like trying to go north from the north pole. You just can’t get there from there.

Wait a minute. Isn’t that the exact day and time we’re supposed to catch the comet’s tail?

Great! I have an idea for your audio. I have a meat timer that has a computerized voice that says “It’s nearly done!” in a cheery manner about 10 degrees or 5 minutes before the meat is really done. She repeats “It’s nearly done” every 15 seconds. I suggest you rig something up that says “It’s nearly gone!” Run it every 2 minutes. LOL.

Sorry to disappoint the Goreons, but I've been watching the Ice Road Truckers roll 18-wheelers with heavy loads across the Arctic Ocean. It's a warm day when it hits 20 below.

OK, I see two poles out there. Which one is the north and which one is the south pole? Can I assume the one on the left is the south pole???????
To: colorado tanker
Ice road truckers are actually driving across frozen Canadian lakes...not the arctic ice.

Barbra Streisand.
The graphic image on the Independent’s story shows 2 different colors to represent the thin 1-year ice, in a medium blue, and multi-year thicker ice in lighter blue.
The North Pole is clearly one of the areas labelled :Thin, Single-Year ice formed last winter.
So the breathless opening line: “no ice on the NP for the first time in history”, is refuted completely by the accompanying graphic!

Fascinating information although I got dizzy looking at all the graphs and deciphering them. Cartoons come to mind what with all the zig-zagging lines and arrow graphs, Daffy Duck for some reason pops up, can someone help??

Which are less than a hundred miles from the arctic circle. I fish up there in the summer, generally in august. There have been days when it was the thirties.

Ice road truckers are actually driving across frozen Canadian lakes...not the arctic ice. Not this season! They're based in Inuvik and roll down the Mackenzie Delta and out onto the Arctic Ocean!

yeah i saw that in the independent but couldnt post it. i guess we are blocked from posting from the independent.
i was kind of surprised since i remember seeing a post here not too long ago that sea ice was at a high for the last few years.
also, was confused by the statemnet in the article that north pole was covered by “first year ice”, wouldnt that indicate it had been no ice a year earlier? hmmmm?
To: Eddie01
See my 26...GMTA.......I shoulda scrolled a bit further.

North Pole is the blue dot on the left centre of this satellite picture from today. In other words, the Arctic ocean is pretty well frozen solid still and there is lots of ice left (1000s of kms) but there is a little more melting than normal for this time of the year.
To: colorado tanker
Sorry to disappoint you, but the truck shipments in IRT take place in the dead of winter, Dec.-Jan.-Feb. only, b/c the ice on those LAKE crossings gets too weak and then melts in spring-summer. There’s a big rush to get as many loads shipped as possible before they have to stop for 9 months and then start up all over again. It’s not the Arctic Ocean, though it is up at the Arctic Circle and north of it.
Still, I don’t share the panic and hysteria of the Gorebots.

Oops, sorry, I too stand corrected — I was speaking from what I saw of the show in the first season. Didn’t know the locations had changed. Thanks for the update.

No problem. It blew my mind when I saw the premier and watched them rolling across the Arctic Ocean. I thought trucking 18-wheelers out of Yellowknife over the ice was extreme, but this time they are way, way up there!
Some things don't change, though. Drew is still making a fool of himself!
